You cannot miss it ! From the A13 highway from Paris to Rouen (exit 11), you'll see two big towers looking like Paris Notre-Dame: here is the collegiale Notre-Dame, built during the XIIth century. Admiring the three beautiful carved doors from the XIIth to the XIVth century, you'll see the Rising of Christ, Our Lady's Assumption and the life of the Saviour.
Go in: the light is splendid; everything here is made to enjoy the elevation. Above the main entrance is the Last judgement, represented on stained-glass (blue in the morning; red in the late afternoon, by sunny days).
At the moment, there are three organs in this huge and majestuous church: the most precious of them is the Mercklin organ (1897) a typical french organ, very recently renovated (at the back on the left hand-side).You can enjoy its typical sound at the sunday 11 mass, or during concerts (usually on sundays at 17.45, july and august).

We wandered through the city visiting the small shops. It was a quiet walking trip and got to visit the local culture and pick up items to take home.

There isn't a lot to see in this small town but of course, there is a huge church. This church dates back to the eleven hundreds. It did sustain some damage during the French Revolution. The most prominent feature of this church is the stained class windows. They are huge and they are colorful. There are many lovely side altars and many interesting statues.

If it were not for the huge damage done during the French revolution, the portals of Notre-Dame would be worth a fourth star. Likewise there is not a lot of original work left inside, thought he visit of the cathedral is pleasant and to be recommended if you are in the visinity.

Do not be dissuaded by the line. It moves quickly and Notre Dame is worth the visit. Besides, the length of time allows you to peruse the outside. Look for the saints and sinners. Both are easy to find. And look for the kings of France on the exterior. Inside, you will see crowds walking around even though Mass is being conducted. The stain glass is so beautiful, especially the Rose Window. Take time to look at all the sculptures. Although not those of Michelangelo in Rome, still incredible.
There is a small gift shop by the door. They have lovely things at a decent price for Paris. Good place for small gifts.

We visited Notre Dame to fill in a little time before arriving at our hotel a little down river.

We were pleased to discover a living vibrant cathedral which even contained the "stations of the cross" and a community of parishioners making the main space ready for a later event.

The interior is strikingly bright and attractive.

Saw this large church on our ship and decided to take a walk. It was very surprising to see it front and its inside. Simply beautiful.

Parked here in Mantes la Jolie to find coffee while en route to Charles de Gaulle airport, walked down the street and were blown away by the sudden sighting of this magnificent church. It soars above the rather mean streets below, and it stopped us in our tracks. With a long history during which it has been razed, rebuilt, sacked and bombed, its size is astounding, and the beauty of the interior matches that of the outside. There are amazing stained glass windows that are worth visiting for themselves.

The 12th century was great for many forgotten things but in building cathedrals they excelled beyond comparison. In fact reading the informative notes, i deduce that the vault hight in the choir was considered the 'skyscraper' of its day, at 157 feet.... and was the climax in France's upwardly aspiring Gothic architecture . Its easy to ogle the sculptures of past monarchies outside and inside there is a plethora of sinners and saints. While the crowds seemed excessive, i found just standing still near a solid pillar, better to appreciate the colour and soaring elements

Quick side trip off the Paris-Rouen highway into this town to check out the 'Collegiale'. Scale is impressive and some intricate details. Worth a quick trip off the motorway. Not much else in the town though.
