- Onanong NamdokmaiSamut Sakhon, Thailand3 contributionsBangPu Recreation CenterBangpoo Recreation Center It is one of Thailand's famous tourist attractions in the Gulf of Thailand. Good atmosphere, delicious seafood. For people in the city or people in the neighborhood To go on a relaxing day out by watching a flock of migratory gulls that can only be seen in one year in winter. Around November-April every year.Visited August 2021Traveled as a coupleWritten August 18, 2021
- Raintree_ThailandBangkok, Thailand3,603 contributionsA very "gull-able" place!!The Bangpu Recreation Center is famous (especially among Thais) for observing the thousands of migratory birds (Mongolian and black-headed gulls in huge numbers) that congregate here from late October until March or April. Of course, the numbers are jacked up by the fact the people regularly feed the gulls. In late afternoon, the place becomes a wild circus, with hundreds, if not thousands, of visitors, especially on weekends and holiday-. Very popular for photographing the flocks of gulls that have become quite fearless of people. Can be a great place to watch the sunset. No entry fees.Visited November 2020Written November 20, 2020
- Andrew StewartThailand16 contributionsBird spotter's paradise. As I'm an amateur bird photographer I spent most of my time in the mangroves, which is where the most interesting birds are to be found. There are several hides, the best being the 'bird watching house' which gives a good view of the lake, where egrets, godwits, sandpipers, stilts, cormorants, painted storks and many others can be seen. At weekends the pier gets hundreds of Thai visitors, who feed the gulls that migrate there in the cool season. Very few of these visitors venture into the mangroves.Visited February 2023Written February 21, 2023

Bang Pu (In Thai: บางปู) is famous for the relaxed getaway that is very closed to Bangkok at only 37 kilometers. The place is operated by the Quartermaster Department Royal Thai Army and so it’s popular among the soldiers. This lush area also has many bungalows and restaurants worth driving for. Take note that during November to April (especially December) is a good time spotting the large flocks of migrating seagulls that gather here along the shore.

Opening hours: Daily 5am-8pm (restaurant opens 10am)
The pictures showm in here are taken on May 21, 2016 (the staff of restaurant said that the flocks of seagulls have already moved to the north (Syberia) since end of April)
PS: This place provides various stamps for collection by Thai Post Office, do not miss!

I went to this location with a friend during the Songkran holiday and it was an ok trip. We went in the late afternoon so it wouldn't be quite as hot, although it being April, the temperatures were still very very warm.
The water will not be very clear here, although that is due to the environmental region that this coastline is in.
Walking along the jetty is fairly good as it least gives one a bit of a breeze and of course you will see the main attraction - the many many seagulls flying around the area which made for a lot of photo taking from the large amount of people who were there.
We didn't eat at any of the restaurants in the area (nor the one at the end of the jetty).
Either way, this made a nice short little trip was nice to get outside and do something different.
For getting here travelers can do 2 options:
1) Take the BTS Skytrain from Bangkok all the way to the end of the line, and to the last new station that was recently opened at the end of 2018 - the Keha station.
From there once getting off the train at Keha, one can catch a taxi to the Bang Pu Rec Center, and it will only be about a 15 minute drive.
2) Option 2 is similar to option 1 (at least for part of it).
For another choice you can take the BTS to Keha station only this time, instead of taking a taxi, you can take a songthaew (which is a pickup truck with seats in the back), and will have a big number '36' on the front of the truck above the windshield as it comes towards you. (The number 36 will also appear on the back of the truck as well for identification purposes).
Hop on that, and your journey will only cost you a mere 8 Baht for a one way trip!
So this option is bit cheaper if you'd like to save some Baht.
The only difference is, the taxi will take you right into the rec center while the songthaew will drop you off curbside on Sukhumvit, and you'll have to walk into the rec center (although it will only be about a 10 minute walk or less).
While I wouldn't overall rate the Bangpu Rec Center as a top place to visit, it certainly isn't bad if you want to do a short outing and are in the area, or just want to get out of BKK for a bit

Mangroves are also nice. The people whining here about the water being brown etc. should really go back to high school - this is a MANGROVE FOREST and by its nature it's brown and swampy. You can see some great birds here; the pier is nice and it has also birds, viz. ordinary seagulls, which doesn't exactly float my boat.
The restaurant I strongly advise against: Overpriced by more than 100% compared to Bangkok (not the tourist traps but decent mall restaurants say); very low quality and bad taste (the squid was inedible); lousy service *and* I was tricked out of 100 THB change. In a quite dexterous way so that I regard it as the price for a learning experience, but really! It's a lovely place physically though, especially the outside wings. Still, don't eat here.

Approximately 48 mins from sukumvit, this is a nice hangout to get fresh ocean air and lots of fresh fish. The waters are muddy though due to which a lot of green trees grow well here. They have a nice jungle plank walk which leads into the forest flanked by the ocean backwaters. It’s a good place to walk and chill out.

This place is really nice and good for activities for who wants to jogging around also walking into the mangroves is very relaxing and if you want to see the birds flying around then you should come here in the winter time, best in October.

Situated at the estuary mouth of the Chao Phraya River this is an interesting free place to visit. Free parking, a walk along the pier through mangroves, there are many seagulls and waders around. The pier is long and runs out onto the mud flats with food vendors and ice creams etc. Great views of the estuary and boats moored waiting to enter the river. Yes, a good place for an afternoon or morning stroll.

Bangpu Recreation Center is on Samut Prakan's coast with the Gulf of Siam, and just to the east of the mouth of the Chao Phraya River.
It comprises a long pier stretching through coastal mangrove forests, at the end of which is a building complex with some rather dreary looking restaurants and a dusty, smelly entertainment center.
But it is hugely popular with locals who come here to feed the seagulls, which are literally in their thousands.
Vendors sell fried pork crackling at THB 50 a bag, which is about twice the price you would pay to buy a packet of crispy pork as a snack for yourself. And I am not sure what eco-nuts would have to say about feeding seabirds a diet of oily fried pork skin.
But it is all good fun, and we spent an hour in the evening walking the length of the pier and back again, with me wondering how so many birds could hunt and scavenge the food thrown to them without multiple mid-air collisions.

Honestly it was a waste of time heading there. Please do not go there during the late afternoon or whenever there is a low tide. Water is murky as heck and the seabed is disgusting and pungent. The only thing positive I can write about the place is the strong sea breeze. The view stretches for miles but it's ruined by brown. Not to mention it was 32°C.

Great place for birding(seagulls) photography. A good family recreation. There are restaurants at the center but I have not yet tried the food. Recommended.
