The Westwood Museum houses artifacts from Westwood's first 100 years. It is well organized and staffed by friendly local volunteers. There is an excellent collection of newspapers back to the early 1900s. It's a great place to learn about the history of the history of the area and the little logging company town.

The Westwood Museum was a total surprise. There was so much history and so many artifacts packed into this museum. It was well worth the time and special hours to tour. The staff was very attentive and available to answer questions we had. Westwood is a special place, and the residents are proud of their history. This museum asks for donations. If you find yourself in or near Westwood, this museum is worth the time. Current hours are Wednesdays through Saturdays, 11 AM - 4 PM each of those days.

This museum holds the history of the historic lumber town of Westwood Ca, and the home of Paul Bunyun and Babe the Blue Ox. Many interesting displays, maps, books, and photos. Great volunteer staff will make you feel welcome and can answer practically any question you may have.

Westwood in Lassen County, is a small poor town, that use to be a big logging town at one time.
We stopped there on the way to Lake Almanor, as it's only about 8 miles down the road from there, and we found out the museum was open, so thought we'd drop in, to see what it had on display.
It was bigger than expected, they had a huge archive of newspapers dating way back in time, articles on World War !!,
that involved some of the members of their community, logging equipment, maps of logging areas, a wonderful
intricate old piano, Paul Bunyun artifacts, and so much more.
A member of the community was there to take us around, and tell us the history of Westwood, she'd been living there since 1968, and that made things all the more appealing to us.
It was definitely fascinating to be in such a small town, and see all the old history stored away in this gem of a little museum. Off the beaten path, but we felt it was definitely worth our time to stop in there for a visit.

Tons of pictures and artifacts. Pictures show it from the beginning, at the height of its population - including a huge company store that sold literally everything. (Pictures of part of that show a meat department, shoe department, hat department, dry goods department, on and on that look like small stores within the big one.) Samples of company scrip, clothes, etc. Also Indian artifacts, a bunch of ancient medical equipment, including anesthetic machine that looks about 50 years old. Volunteers are very knowledgeable. Open Wednesday through Saturday

Lots of artifacts in this historic building!
The staff is gracious and very well informed. Everything is cataloged and well cleaned. Impressed that they don’t just toss something when it gets old! The volunteers are very helpful and willing to answer questions. Off the beaten past, but worth the time!
FYI: Suggest you chow down on an amazing pizza before you leave town

Lots of stuff in this little museum, nicely displayed and labeled. Volunteer staff was informative and knowledgable, with lots of stories. Appreciated the old medical and office items as we speculated on what they were for and how they might have worked. One video about an Indian man, the last of his tribe, who came out of hiding some years back. A pleasant hour to spend in Westwood's past.

This small museum, run entirely by volunteers and donations, highlight life in a company run mill town. It's free!
