Came to Tahoe to celebrate my bach weekend with 15 other guys, this is pretty much a perfect afternoon activity if you're not hitting the slopes. Just the right amount of thrill and exhilaration without being in any serious danger (assuming you're not riding like a complete dunce). A few reasons why not 5 star - we were originally on the Zephyr Cove tour which is on the lake and has more scenic views than Hope Valley - there wasn't enough snow on those trails so we were moved to the more back-country Lake Tahoe/Hope Valley tour. Fine and not their fault but we were promised we'd still reach elevations of 10-12k feet but actually we barely hit 9k feet. Also we ended up taking lots of normal roads (closed and covered in snow) throughout the afternoon not the real "back-country" I was expecting. Finally, and through no fault of our guide's I'm sure, we were expected not to go over 40 mph, ever. The single ride machines have speedometers that go up to 120 mph, and obviously that wasn't going to happen but especially since we were going on normal roads I was expecting to be able to let it rip a little more. Takeaway: Despite the grievances I'd definitely consider this tour again - maybe double check the snow forecast the month leading up to your desired weekend because I'm sure the Zephyr Cove tour has better views. Also, pro-tip they section you off into groups of 8 even with a large group so if you want a private tour without paying for it make sure you're in a multiple of 8 ;)

Top notch tour guide and generally good operation. Trip was in a beautiful area and we felt safe. The view was beautiful for the entire trip. As others have pointed out, the tour is along roads and not off trail, but in the snow covered valley, that was just fine. Good selection of needed equipment like boots and snow clothing if you are not prepared. The entire event, from hotel pick up and drop off is 5 hours, trail ride is 2 hours max. I would give this operation a 5, but for the following issues: 1) Check in was horribly slow due to minimal staff. One line for cashier/check in, another line for gear. Took 45 min to an hour before we got on bus out to hope valley, after shuttle to office. Staff was very friendly, there just weren't enough of them. 2) We waited 20 minutes, outdoors in 23 degree weather and high winds for the buses to pick us up after the tour. We were all freezing, and buses had little or no heat. Buses are old school buses, with broken (open) windows. We were cold for the remainder of the day, as this was a long, long time in the freezing weather. Keep in mind that we were fully dressed for cold in long johns, boots, gators, gloves, parka, hats, and a full skisuit on top of it all. Still freezing. We had a fun time, but the delays were a black mark on this otherwise fun event.

I agree with other positive reviews. First class operation with excellent customer service, available gear in good condition to rent (helmet and goggles included but also have boots, snow suits, and gloves), nice snowmobiles (ski doos). Our guide was really terrific - made sure everyone was comfortable and having fun. We were told max speed was 25 but I went up to 35 mph a couple of times. You make a couple of stops for photos and one for hot cocoa. Back country is stunning! You do ride mainly on snow covered roads. One improvement would be a stop in a big meadow to do your own thing. We passed many. Even first timers would enjoy! If you want more that do have a tour designed for intermediate to advanced riders. They also had a shuttle that picks up at resorts in South Lake Tahoe making it very convenient. Everything was on time and they were very organized and efficient. We had a wonderful time! I would recommend and do it again.

After check in and being given the provided helmet and googles, we loaded up into the bus to be taken to the tour site up in the mountains. You can rent gloves, jackets, bibs and boots if you need gear. The ride to the tour site takes about 20 minutes. Once you arrive they separate folks into groups and you learn the basics of the machines and hand signals the guides will use. They use two seater machines if that makes a difference to you. The machines were in good shape and came with heated hand grips. We did the Summit tour which is two hours in length. This is just enough time to traverse the area around the mountain. You travel on set trails and are in line the whole tour. You will only go as fast as the slowest person in your group, which is the luck of the draw. We of course got the turtle group. After a brief hot chocolate stop you will return to the meet spot and turn in your machine. Our guide Tyler was a great guy and very professional and fun to talk with. You then load up and travel back into town to turn in your gear. Fun and memorable trip- definitely recommend. If you want to be freer than a turtle though pay extra for a smaller tour with these guys, Also remember to tip your guide- this is his job.

The highlight of our ski trip is always a snowmobile tour for me. Pros: Customer service is AMAZING!!! Everyone was super friendly and professional. We went with my whole family and had last minute questions about gear and pickup locations, etc - and they were super helpful. Our guide was also super friendly! The hot chocolate to top off the day was awesome, and the views were spectacular! Cons: We've been on a lot of different tours and honestly, I didn't know one like this existed, so I didn't know to be on guard for it. Our 2 hour tour was on highways that were closed for snow. At one point we were on a private road, but it was still just a road. I paid for a private tour for our 6 snow mobiles and assumed we would get something a bit extra, and maybe the trip down the private road was it. Our other tours were all "off road". We would take hiking trails, often times going to a meadow where we could cut loose some (though not always). Definitely in the back woods and away from the beaten path. I think this group is great at what they do, it's just not what I had hoped they would do. I did have a first time driver in our group and 2 kids who thought it was amazing! I just know it could have been so much more.
