DO NOT BUY EPIC PASS
Dec 2020
The mountain is ok though a lot of work if weather shuts down the gondola, as happens often. More importantly, they scammed us into buying season passes with the impression that "Epic Coverage" would protect us if COVID prevented us from visiting. Well, it did. Like many, we were in lock down. The only option at one point was to quarantine for for 14 days after traveling to and from Tahoe! How could a person be expected to take weeks off work to get in a day of skiing?!! They intentionally mislead their customers. A despicable big business.

Dangerous and no fun.

For God's sake, Heavenly Resort -- when is your resort going to improve the Sky Line trail? The trail is too narrow (people have to fight for space on that ledge) and the pitch is too flat. I generally have to remove my board and walk to get off the ledge safely.

Great spring skiing
Apr 2021 • Couples
The runs were well maintained and the lifts prompt. The packed powder was acceptable. The problem is that you could really ski down without taking a very icy run. The other way down is a black Diamond or a blue that was very icy. I asked the personnel and they all said just ride the lift back down. Oh well. Food was limited but decent. Would be better with better snow. Will try again. Very pleasant lift attendants.

Horrible restaurant choices
Mar 2021 • Couples
It’s a good thing the view is so beautiful in Lake Tahoe. We’ve been coming here for 30 years on and off and have been to so many other ski resorts. The view is the main thing. Somethings never change though like the resort food situation
The food is horrendous and always has been so you can’t blame that on Covid. They are extremely unorganized and serve the most mediocre highly processed food I’ve ever had. There is no where to get a really nice meal on the slopes anywhere. It’s all fast food that’ll cost you as much as a sit down meal. Don’t waste your money and bring your own food. Or just gonna have a very late lunch after you ski. Oh and they have to treat you like you’re four years old and exactly explain how to wash your hands like you’re an idiot. It’s ridiculous how far this has gotten out of hand. Stand on the dot put your finger on your nose and rub your belly at the same time if you can LOL
Umm— we are not mentally challenged

Private Ski Lesson

My Daughter and I had the BEST experience with our ski instructor, Vic! My daughter was saying that she did not ever want to ski again and thanks to Vic.. she is all smiles when she is hitting the slopes. Thank goodness because this is our family vacation and now we all can’t wait to come back next year!
Thanks Heavenly and Thanks VIC!!!!!

Best views of the lake, expect to traverse, parking timing
Feb 2021
Heavenly is a huge mountain, requiring time to get from lift to lift. From the California side, when there are no lines, it can take about 30 mins to get to the top from the bottom as there are about three lifts to take (Gunbarrel, Powderbowl, Sky Express). Or it can take about 20 mins to get from one state to the other (especially if some runs are closed). So expect to do some traversing if you want to explore the whole mountain.

The blacks are not groomed as often as some other mountains, and so at Heavenly, a black by default pretty much means moguls. For those intermediate-advanced skiiers who are looking to acclimate to slope and not moguls, Heavenly probably isn’t for you.

This being said, it has the best views out of all of the epic mountains. My favorite run is Canyonland. It is pretty wide and not as crowded as Ridge Run. It’s not very well marked and so I think people just don’t bother to look for it.

There are also good opportunities to weave through trees in that area as well (especially on powder days). (Another good area is down on the Nevada side with the Galaxy lift in between Perimeter and Galaxy run, however, the Galaxy lift takes forever [16 mins to be exact], and so the fact that there is no line is pretty much a wash with the amount of time sitting on the lift.

Free parking at the California and Nevada base (Gunbarrel or Stagecoach) pretty much fills up at 10am (9am on the weekends). Once it closes, you can expect it to reopen at Noon for those half-dayers. Once the California / Gunbarrel parking is closed, they redirect people to Ski Run blvd, and then there is a shuttle from there.

Single Rider advice: On the California side, only Sky Express has a single rider line. On the Nevada side, only Big Dipper Express has a single rider line. Even if they snake around, they are typically much faster than waiting in the other lines.
COVID – Specific items: Masks may or may not be enforced depending on who is working the lines. Outdoor dining is open, you can’t eat while indoors. Dress warmly for the day.

Sometimes, Sky and Dipper are placed on windholds. If this is the case, if you are on the California side, there is no way to get to Nevada if you are on the mountain already.

Great ski spot
Mar 2021 • Couples
Very beautiful mountain to ski; fewer options for newer skiers than other places but a lot of options for intermediate level skiers. Great views of the lake and surrounding mountains. Staff on the mountain were super helpful.

spectacular skiing and views
Feb 2021
We loved our 3 days skiing this beautiful mountain. The views are breathtaking. There are not many green runs, but the blue runs are not as steep is some other Vail resorts that we have been to. We took the Gondola up one day, paid $25 for parking and waited in line to take the Gondola down at the end of the day ( over 25 minutes at 3:30 pm and during the week). Not the best way to start and end our day. We ended up starting our day at the California base lodge, free parking, easy walk, hop right on the chair lift and then have access to a beautiful area and plenty of skiing. Easy ski down at the end of the day. Much more relaxing and less crowded then the base of the Gondola. There is no inside dining and all food is grab and go. There are plenty of tables outside and chairs to relax in. It was never too cold so we were fine. All and all a great trip and I will be going back! Please tip your ski instructors...they are paid minimum wage and really rely on tips to make ends meet:)

Worst ski trip of my life. Go somewhere else
Jan 2021 • Couples
Heavenly needs more parking. I ended up dropping off my girlfriend then driving around for an hour looking for somewhere to park. I ended up walking up the mountain. There are no trail guides/maps. I saw one map at the California lodge and that was it. Lift tickets are now plastic cards so you cannot attach them to your jacket but must instead remove your gloves and fumble around in your pockets. The lodges are closed; no lunch with a beer. Not inside, at any rate. Masks get wet then turn icy, but you still have to wear them even outside..It was not clear to girlfriend where she was supposed to go for her lessons nor whether she needed to purchase a separate lift ticket. Awful experience, will never come here again.

Epic Coverage Does Not Reimburse As Promised
Dec 2020
In September 2020, I purchased an Epic season pass plus Epic Coverage from Vail Resorts to use at Heavenly Mountain. The coverage included full refund of the pass if 1) I was under a COVID "Stay At Home" order for 30 days or more during the 20/21 ski season and 2) I had not used my pass. I have been under both a County and Regional "Stay At Home" order for over 30 days starting Dec 4, 2020. I have not used my pass. I therefore applied for a full refund under the terms of my Epic Coverage. Vail Resorts claims adjuster has denied the claim twice (I asked for a 2nd review because I was certain the claim was denied in error the first time). The denials say my "Stay at Home" isn't a real "Stay At Home" order, even though the County notification says "Stay At Home Order" right in the title. No where in the Epic Coverage terms and condition does it further define "Stay At Home" order, other than those three words "Stay At Home".

I have been a Vail Resorts customer for over 40 years and have spent well over $50K with Vail Resorts in lodging, passes and entertainment over that period. I have been repeat Season Pass holder for many, many years. I am appalled by the way Vail Resorts has treated their customers during this pandemic. I have dealt with over 40 travel and entertainment companies during the pandemic and Vail Resorts treatment of its loyal customers is absolutely the worst of any of the 40+ companies.

Because of the way I have been treated I will never spend another dollar at Vail Resorts for as long as I live. I am revising my estate planning documents to disinherit any member of my family who ever spends another dollar at Vail Resorts.
