There is a wide range of slopes here, particularly good for beginners and intermediate skiers. The views are just amazing. On the California side you view the lake and on the Nevada side you are skiing and can look across at the desert! The slopes were quiet and very well maintained despite having no snowfall in February until the 29th. The one downside is the outrageous prices charged for food and drink.....$16 for chilli fries, $24 for a salmon salad, $14 for a hot dog. At least you can get free drinking water.........you need to with a hot chocolate costing $8!!

The booking agents through the Heavenly resort and lodging were amazing. They helped organize a trip for 15 family members and even helped with purchasing of our passes. Our trip was planned right before the holidays and with all the pending closures and actual closures we decided to cancel our trip. The Lodging was great to deal with. They were understanding and professional. The third party company for the epic pass claims was a nightmare. After many log hold times, disconnected phone calls and busy signals I was able to locate the online form. Weeks went by with no response. We get an email asking for supporting documents. I submitted the closures and state regulations and the stay at home order info. Over a month later, and our passes arriving after we were due to leave for our trip, we were denied our epic coverage and refund. We were told in some cases with resort closures we can apply in MAY at the end of the season. This process has not only being aggerating, though also very unorganized, and misleading with all the "reasons" that were listed. Though this resort has in the past offered the best ski trip i have experienced, during COVID times they have proven to not be a good risk to make.

We had an enjoyable time skiing at the Heavenly Mountain Resort. There are plenty of easy runs to get around and harder runs for those who want it. The views of the lake from the top are beautiful although we only skiied two days so didn’t get a blue sky day where you could see the lake all the way. It was quite busy at times and I had a couple of close calls with people almost running into me but it was around the Christmas period. We were there on epic passes but it seemed quite expensive if you had to pay for lift tickets once there. We appreciated the free parking at the California base and there was plenty.

Heavenly is a huge mountain, requiring time to get from lift to lift. From the California side, when there are no lines, it can take about 30 mins to get to the top from the bottom as there are about three lifts to take (Gunbarrel, Powderbowl, Sky Express). Or it can take about 20 mins to get from one state to the other (especially if some runs are closed). So expect to do some traversing if you want to explore the whole mountain.

The blacks are not groomed as often as some other mountains, and so at Heavenly, a black by default pretty much means moguls. For those intermediate-advanced skiiers who are looking to acclimate to slope and not moguls, Heavenly probably isn’t for you.

This being said, it has the best views out of all of the epic mountains. My favorite run is Canyonland. It is pretty wide and not as crowded as Ridge Run. It’s not very well marked and so I think people just don’t bother to look for it.

There are also good opportunities to weave through trees in that area as well (especially on powder days). (Another good area is down on the Nevada side with the Galaxy lift in between Perimeter and Galaxy run, however, the Galaxy lift takes forever [16 mins to be exact], and so the fact that there is no line is pretty much a wash with the amount of time sitting on the lift.

Free parking at the California and Nevada base (Gunbarrel or Stagecoach) pretty much fills up at 10am (9am on the weekends). Once it closes, you can expect it to reopen at Noon for those half-dayers. Once the California / Gunbarrel parking is closed, they redirect people to Ski Run blvd, and then there is a shuttle from there.

Single Rider advice: On the California side, only Sky Express has a single rider line. On the Nevada side, only Big Dipper Express has a single rider line. Even if they snake around, they are typically much faster than waiting in the other lines.
COVID – Specific items: Masks may or may not be enforced depending on who is working the lines. Outdoor dining is open, you can’t eat while indoors. Dress warmly for the day.

Sometimes, Sky and Dipper are placed on windholds. If this is the case, if you are on the California side, there is no way to get to Nevada if you are on the mountain already.

Good grooming of the slopes. Too expensive to spend most of your day lining up for the gondola and lifts to ski. Tamarack Lodge has good food but hugely expensive and there is no enough space to eat your lunch. Heavenly is selling too many tickets without consideration of the experience people have at the resort. We literally spent 40 minutes queuing to get down on the gondola and 25 minutes at the start of the day (when it opened) to get up.

The facilities and location are great, but the owner (Vail corporation) is too greedy to care about their customers. I was considering getting a season’s pass for me and my daughter, but am glad I didn’t as we won’t be coming back.

The lift operator at the bottom of Dipper, on Saturday 28th at about 2pm was extremely rude and almost caused a very bad accident.
He stoped us when we’re heading to “stand here” like to jump on the chair, and then told us to HURRY UP! We were so confused but tried to do what he said, as you can imagine we didn’t have enough time and I ended up tripping and falling, tried to move to a side since the chair was coming but It ended up biting me anyways. Then he processed to stop the chairs and start making face expressions as he gets annoyed and as we start going up after he activated the chairs again he goes “You’ve got to be f***n kidding me.
I’m sorry? You made me fall and get hit by a lift chair, and you have the guts to get mad at us? What if it would’ve been a kid? And what if I would’ve gotten really hurt? We couldn’t get his name but still managed to place a complain at the office. We are vail employees from Colorado and we know This is not the kind of service and treatment Vail resorts offers to its guests, this person definitely needs to be called out.

Terrible experience at Heavenly... missed the trail back to the gondola due to poorly marked signs and ended up at the Stagecoach lodge after the lifts closed along with about 30 other people who made the same mistake. This wouldn't be a huge deal except for the fact that the base/parking lodges of this resort are not serviced by resort shuttles! Heavenly resort staff were unhelpful, suggesting I try to call an Uber/Lyft (none available at the time) or take public transit (waited for 90 minutes, bus did not arrive). As the crowd gathered clamoring for answers from the resort staff team member, he finally shrugged his shoulders, took a few drags from his vape pen, and strolled off.

Other negatives about this resort... unless you want to get stuck in 1-2 hours of traffic at the end of the day, you'll need to cut your skiing short and head to your car around 2:30 or 3p. Any later than that and you risk getting stuck in gridlock traversing South Lake Tahoe.

For tickets approaching $200 per day, I expect better organization and service for visiting guests.

I'm going to do a "compliment sandwich" on this place...
The skiing was amazing! We spent almost all day hitting the slopes and each one was so different and fun in its own way. For the most part getting on the lifts was a breeze & the slopes weren't too packed. The maps are easy to navigate and there are some awesome picture spots on the top! The downside to this place is their cost of food at the main lodge...OMG. Two baskets of chicken tender & fries cost over $50.00. That is seriously robbery, I don't know why they feel its ok to charge $8 for hot cocoa, $10 for french fries, $14 for chili... We learned our lesson the next time and brought our own sandwiches to eat at lunch time. Other than that, we all had a blast, the last day we skied was perfect since it snowed the day before pretty heavy. The lockers were useful to store all our extra stuff too. All in all a very fun part of our winter vacation!

We loved our 3 days skiing this beautiful mountain. The views are breathtaking. There are not many green runs, but the blue runs are not as steep is some other Vail resorts that we have been to. We took the Gondola up one day, paid $25 for parking and waited in line to take the Gondola down at the end of the day ( over 25 minutes at 3:30 pm and during the week). Not the best way to start and end our day. We ended up starting our day at the California base lodge, free parking, easy walk, hop right on the chair lift and then have access to a beautiful area and plenty of skiing. Easy ski down at the end of the day. Much more relaxing and less crowded then the base of the Gondola. There is no inside dining and all food is grab and go. There are plenty of tables outside and chairs to relax in. It was never too cold so we were fine. All and all a great trip and I will be going back! Please tip your ski instructors...they are paid minimum wage and really rely on tips to make ends meet:)

There are too many people on the mountain. It is less of skiing experience and more of a dodgeball experience. You have to keep looking left, right, front, and backwards to escape from the next person waiting to crash into you. And that's not even the worst part. After you are done dodging people down the mountain, you get to wait in line for an hour after which you get to ski a 10 minute run. So, for every hour that you wait, you get to ski for 10 minutes. Enjoy Heavenly! - The worst waste of a day you can spend not skiing. Definitely won't be back. I saw another post that stated "most money I've ever paid to wait in line and be disappointed" and that OP could not have said it better. And for that reason, I am directly quoting him/her. I've been skiing for 30 years and Heavenly is the worst skiing I have ever done.
