Known as one of the most fun waves in Indonesia for surfing and suites all levels, many go there continually because of the consistency and freindly nature of the waves and local people. It can get busy on weekends when local people from all over Indonesia travel by large busses to enjoy the day at the beach. Rumoured to have health benefits the local population use the beach by the hundreds to play organised group games and swim. The local fishermen have small speed boats and tow inflatable banna boats and pods filled with screaming riders getting their thrills. Caios is a word but is is an experience during weekends. A far cry from the general beach towers during the week where local kids and international surfers get their fill of the long rides in the surf. The hotels and Warungs (Restaurants) serve Bintang Beer and spirits are not as available as in Bali due to the general population of Muslim influence that frowns on dress and drinking standards. While wearing a bikini out surfing, many women surfers cover up to protect themselves from sunburn and out of respect. If traveling outside of Batu Karas then Girls need to cover arms and legs.

There are very few places on the south coast of Java where it s safe to swim and this is one of them. It s a delightful place with the proviso that you go out of school holidays or long weekends. Actually even at these times, most people only come for the day, so in the early morning and evening you can still enjoy a peaceful stay.
Its quite a popular place to surf and you can rent a surf board or have a lesson relatively cheaply. There are quite a few simple but pleasant places to stay near the main beach and 3 warungs where you can eat western or indonesian food as well as freshly caught fish/seafood, our favourite being Kang Ayi - they re all nice!
It a long journey to get here: around 7 hours from Bandung, sometimes even longer. The last stretch of road from Pangandaran to Batu Karas is often in very bad condition, but its worth the trip I think.

Beautiful beach and great spot for surfing, mixed with fisherman village. Calm, laid back destination for swimming and surfing as well as sunrise views. They also have nearby food stalls or restaurants

An awesome beach for surfers, with waves from 1 -5 ft, as well as families. A no hassle beach. No parties, just beer, books and seafood.

If just want to chillin' enjoy the view, Batu Karas is one of the best place. Not many people come to this place. If you are a beginner to surfing or sport related, this is a nice place too. This beach is sloping but if you go to the middle and pass through the big rock, you will find a sufficient wave to start your surfing lesson.

Been there in February for surf. The wave was good, people from every age seemed enjoy much the weather and the waves. Located about 20 minutes drive from Green Canyon through rocky road. We paid Rp 36000 for a car & 4 persons. After arrive, there was intersection the right way for beach with big coral and reef, and the left way for wide opened beach. We chose the right beach. We looked for surf lesson there, and cancelled it since we thought the price was overpriced, 250/person for local instructor. They also had unlimited tine surf board rental for Rp 80000, body board Rp 20000, mat Rp 15000, but we paid Rp 100000 for those 3. The shower located beside the parking spot, just common beach shower in Indonesia.

The waves are perfect for both beginners and people with more experience. Even advanced surfers will have a lot of fun here on good swells!! it is also good for swimming and splashing around.

It ia located about 20 minutes from Pangandaran Airport. You will follow the path with beautiful scenery across green canyon river.
Batu karas is one of amazing beach in West Java. You can see the sunrise, buy fresh fish from local fisherman, play in the beach, dinner with seafood in local resto. For you who likes surfing, Batu Karas will be the right spot. There also plenty homestay, bungalow even resort with reasonable price. You will not regret to get vacation in Batu Karas.

Hi, When are the stingers at their worst? Is Nov okay? I'm looking at travelling with 6 women to have a surfing getaway. Are there any accommodations with a pool overlooking the surf break? Sounds like a great fun wave. Thanks
