- ELondonTravellerLondon, United Kingdom190 contributionsOh wow! This has to be one of my top 5 favourite beaches ever! So worth the 40 min drive from our resort, we went every day! This made the holiday for me. Turquoise waters, lovely sand, not too busy. Beach bar restaurant sold loads of freshly made food, ice lollies and drinks. Toilet there too. It’s just stunning. Waves were variable- a little rough one day, quite gentle the next. A lovely swimming spot though, and those views!Visited October 2021Traveled with familyWritten October 24, 2021
- Gwenllian11 contributionsA must-stop on your holiday to the AlgarveWhat an incredible beach! The sea stacks and archways dotted throughout make it a great beach for exploring (if you like climbing over rocks through water!) Unfortunately, there had been some high tides prior to our visit meaning there was quite a bit of seaweed, making swimming and walking to the sea less enjoyable. Be aware that many of the tides in the Algarve are also rough and not very suitable for young children. However, we had a pleasant afternoon on the lovely sandy beach, which was not overcrowded at all. I would also recommend visiting by sea either through one of the boat trips or by hiring a SUP or kayak as this allows better exploration of the caves and archways.Visited June 2022Written July 18, 2022
- jonfromcincinnati73 contributionsSolid Algarve BeachLovely beach and I can confidently say so after visiting several other Algarve beaches which, believe me, are not all amazing. I’m sorry; I know I’m in the minority opinion here. We were not permitted to drive to the car park closest to the beach because it was full (perhaps due to it being a weekend). Getting there required an easy, flat mile walk (but note that it is in the blazing sun). Very steep but manageable stone staircase down to the wide, sandy cliff-backed beach, where there are WCs and a café but no opportunity for renting chairs/umbrellas. Mixed ages. Overall pleasant, albeit crowded, appealing beach.Visited July 2022Traveled as a coupleWritten July 11, 2022

Having said that, this is a stunning area. The beach is amazing, bounded by high cliffs, and the sea stacks, grottos, cliffs and small secluded beaches look amazing. We just enjoyed the views from the top but would have loved descending as well. At the top there are stalls selling soft drinks, ice creams etc. This really is a must see location and even better if you can spend time here.Visited June 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten July 2, 2023
- Hannah KLondon, United Kingdom27 contributionsAmazing Picturesque Beach! The beach is kind of divided into 3 areas which are less busy as you progress - each section is blocked off by rocks which you need to either climb over (unless you're lucky with low tide) or swim around. My favourite was the last portion as there were few people there and beautiful caves if you swam out a little in the water - quite a few canoers/kayakers, SUP and boat tours around there too. Absoulely loved exploring the beach, very glad I was able to visit in the spring season (freezing water though of course)!Visited April 2022Written May 4, 2022

It’s worth a detour! The whole setting with the dramatic cliffs, the turquoise water and the golden sand is extremely photogenic. - Alastair KStoke-on-Trent, United Kingdom17 contributionsNice beach, can be scary be aware! As you park at the (free) car park at the top you can walk across the cliffs or down the well constructed steps to the beach. At the bottom of the steps there is a tiny beach enclosed by cliffs, like the unknowing tourist sheep we are, we followed a family around a cliff face to a magical beach, truly it is beautiful. Crystal blue sea, high cliffs, it makes cornwall look like a council estate. We stayed for about 3 hours, the tide looked like it had not moved at all. When we decided to go home, we found we were virtually cut off from the little cove we walked down the steps onto. What followed ( with 2 young children (3&6)) was terrifying. We had to try and run past the increasingly powerful waves against the cliff face, I managed to get my incredibly distressed 3 year old to safety, whilst my wife and 6 year old took meagre shelter in a tiny cave, thankfully a very kind and brave young man saw my distress and went and rescued my wife other child. I have never seen such terror on their faces before. I am covered in bruises from being battered against the cliffs by the sea, and my 6 year old never wants to go to any beach again. Please be aware of this, there were about 40 people left on this beach including many young families, I have no idea how they got off it. There are no signs warning of tidal cut off, and it barely seems to move!Visited April 2017Traveled with familyWritten April 12, 2017

Attention hiking enthusiasts. If you are staying in Carvoeiro and are looking for an amazing hike you should walk the cliff paths from Carvoeiro to Praia da Marinha. We didn't see this advertised any where, but we're avid hikers and were looking for something like this to do so one morning we set out towards the cliffs to the east to see how far we could go. We were able to follow the cliff path along some really spectacular vistas and hit four beaches and a gigantic sea cave along the way. The route is around 12km round trip, so bring plenty of water and lots of sunscreen and maybe some snacks for the day too. The paths aren't continuous the whole way either but you can easily figure out how to cut through the few discontinuous areas just by looking across to the cliff line in front of you and navigating towards it to rejoin the path. I think we had to cut through one condo complex to reconnect. From the cliff tops you can see the different beaches below and then it becomes a game of trying get to them. All of the beach access points were easy to find except for Praia do Carvalho which we walked right by because it is a hole in the ground with a thirty foot staircase carved through a rock tunnel that spits you out onto the beach. Carvalho is a great place to stop for some excitement because someone carved a ledge into the cliff flanking the beach and you can walk out on the cliff wall a hundred feet or so and do a cliff jump into the ocean from 35 feet up! If you are interested in swimming into a giant see cave you can see the entrance to it a few minutes into the walk from Carvoeiro. The cave is directly behind the Hotel Tivoli and you can get to it if you walk to the front of the hotel and take a path that is to the left of the hotel's entrance as you are looking at it ( goes right by a scuba diving center). The icing on the cake after a long day hike is Praia da Marinha which is pretty spectacular. Marinha has some really cool rock formations out in the water and depending on the tide , you may have to wade into the water to get to parts of it. There is even a small tunnel/cave on this beach too that leads to a private little section of sand. Be on the look out for sea glass amidst the shells and sand. We found tons of it strewn about, green and white too! Start this hike early if you go because you will want plenty of time to stop and play. Happy Hiking.

Stopped off here to go for a lovely clifftop walk. Undoubtedly stunning.Returned after two hours to find someone had broken our rental car's lock with a screwdriver.Only a bag with nothing in it was taken but the car hire company charged us through the roof for the broken lock. I pray we get this back on insurance. Really spoiled everything about the place and the overall holiday. Be warned!

This is a beautiful beach as many contributors have said. What lets down the overall experience is the rip off beach bar at the eastern end of the beach. Coffee with milk at €5 when the average price is €3.60 or less. Surly and unhelpful staff don't help either. When we visited only one toilet was working and that could only be accessed by key for customers only. Given the number of visitors to this area the toilets should be accessible to aRll comers. On other beaches it is a requirement that that is the case. Visit the beach and coastal paths by all means but avoid the beach bar whatever you do.

My friend and I want to get to Praia da Marinha from Lagos, what's the cheapest way to do that? I saw that it's possible to take the bus from Lagos to Lagoa and then take a cab to the Marinha from Lagoa, would anyone recommend this? If so, do I need to book the buses in advance or do I just pay at the bus terminal?

Is there a good walking trail from Carveiro village to this beach?

Excellent answers from Alex and Cyrus (above).
An alternative: We walked from to the village and down to a nearby beach and then to the beach at Carveiro, using roads, paths and some sidewalks. Be cautious of vehicle traffic. A very scenic walk!
During the Summer and Fall, we enjoyed free, outdoor music and dancing, every night, at the plaza, with stage, in front of Carveiro beach....a wonderful surprise! Local cabs can take you back to the village.
Carveiro was one of our absolute favorite towns during our 60+ day "immersion" into the fabulous, friendly, sunny Algarve region!
