Epic trip to The Yukon.
We went Northern Lights viewing and to The Wildlife Preserve and Hot Springs with Northern Tales, they included pickup from the airport and a short city tour of Whitehorse as well.
Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) is a natural phenomenon and of course not guaranteed to see, but we were lucky enough to see the lights on the last day.
Northern Tales took awesome pictures with professional camera equipment and provided us with arctic winter clothing that kept us warm during the cold Yukon nights. We roasted some Elk and Bison Sausages by the campfire and original Canadian S'Morres (Marshmello Caramello).
The guides are super fun and knowledgeable, especially Kevin and Aaron.
Kevin informed us with some astonishing facts about The Yukon Wildlife during the Preserve tour. Very interesting facts about the animals living in this territory!
During our Whitehorse City Tour Aaron dropped some serious knowledge about The History of this land and gave us awesome recommendations for the best local shops, restaurants and specialties. (i.e. Bison Cranberry Sausage at the DELI)
Northern Tales is great organization and we would like to Thank all of You a lot for making this such an unforgettable experience for us.

We had a wonderful time during this trip to see the northern lights. Our goal was to see the lights at least one time, but at the end of our trip we flew back with so much more than some memories. The whole team of Northern Tales made every moment special especially our guides during the Aurora viewing. Whitehorse has a magical energy that pulls anyone who wishes to be in the wilderness and traps them with its refreshing ambiance. We were blessed with a magical aurora night but even the ones where the lights weren't as present, the guides always were there to make sure we had a good night.
Our experience could be resume a pure magical experience. We would recommend it at least once to anyone who wishes to have an unforgettable and refreshing experience and want more than just a small vacation !!

You never really know what you are getting when you sign up with a tour company, but we couldn’t have been happier with Northern Tales and their outstanding team! From the moment we arrived at the airport to our last aurora viewing experience, the staff and guides made our experience effortless. Everything was well organized, from the welcome meeting at the hotel, which included a personalized itinerary, to the shuttle bus pick up and drop off for each excursion. All the excursion guides were not only knowledgeable but interesting and engaging. We did the dog sledding experience and had an amazing time!! Each night at the aurora viewing site we had guides that went above and beyond to make sure each guest had a meaningful experience. They were patient, thoughtful, and always available to answer question like “when are we going to see the aurora”. We did the three day tour and were fortunate to see the aurora on our last night. The guides, Aaron, Kevin, Katie and Yukon, had professional cameras and were excited to take pictures of everyone with the aurora. We loved our experience in the Yukon and will definitely use Northern Tales for future visits.

Excellent tours! Our family booked with Northern Tales the aurora borealis, dog sled, and snowmobile tours and we really enjoyed all of them. Everyone is super nice since the time of booking all the way to the actual tours. All guides were great, well informed, and very nice.
On the Aurora Borealis tours they explained everything about auroras, the camp, how to figure out the correct settings to take pictures with your camera, and even took great pictures with their company's camera (which later can be downloaded).
For the dog sledding and snowmobile tours they booked us with a company located higher in the mountain in order to guarantee enough snow in April so that we could enjoy the experiences. Both of these tours were also incredible.
Our family really enjoyed everything offered by Northern Tales and we recommend their services.

Our tour was the 1 night aurora viewing tour.
Although we didn't get to see the aurora due to the cloudy weather, we still had a really nice experience. Our guides Kevin and Yuki were absolutely wonderful and very knowledgeable about the Yukon. They were so friendly and made sure we had the best experience possible. The location for viewing the aurora was great as well, we enjoyed the bonfire and the 2 cabins for resting (which included snacks and hot beverages), but we just loved the fun and unique "light painting" experience! ☺️
I would definitely recommend Northern Tales to anyone planning a visit up here, and if I'm also ever in the Yukon again I would gladly take this tour a second time (and hopefully catch some aurora lights). Thanks for the memories! 🌌🩵

We did the one-night Northern Lights tour with Northern Tales and found our guide to be very professional, knowledgeable, and great at her job. Although we didn't end up seeing the Aurora Borealis, she was wonderful at keeping us "entertained" all evening, by sharing her experiences and knowledge with the group. The location itself seems ideal for viewing, as there is very little light pollution and it provides a broad vista in which to see the night sky, and, if you're lucky, to actually take in the Northern Lights.
The company seems very COVID-aware, as they provide hand sanitizer when you get in the vehicle, as well as at the warming hut. You are also required to wear a face mask when indoors, and they limit the number of people allowed on a tour. When you're picked, you're given a reusable shopping bag (thanks for not using plastic!) with lots of snacks!
Even though we weren't able to see the Lights, we felt very happy with the quality of the tour and would recommend it to others.

My Daughter (19) and I took a Father / Daughter trip to the Yukon to view the Northern Lights over Family Day weekend. We had a terrific showing of the lights and enjoyed the entire experience with Northern Tales.
They have a great operation that works like clock work. It's an easy trip to do over a few days, great value for money and all within Canada so none of the testing requirements etc.
We really enjoyed our time with Norther Tales and highly recommend to anyone else thinking of this trip to engage Northern Tales as it is not just about seeing the Aurora, it is about the whole experience while in Whitehorse for which these guys have it mastered.

My five day visit to Whitehorse in a small tour group of Seniors was made magical by Northern Tales, whose guides Aaron, Kevin and Bernie delighted us with their knowlege of Yukon history and wildlife, and their kind caring attention to our comfort and safety. We were driven around in well-equipped vans to visit museums, a wildlife preserve. and a sled-dog ranch (super exciting!) Our evening vigils in a cosy yurt out in the countryside were enlivened by the guides' tales of adventure and by Aaron's camera skills, as well as by plentiful snacks and hot chocolate by the woodstove when we came indoors to warm up. This was a perfect holiday, and a genuine glimpse of the Yukon Territory and its lovely people.

Having travelled the seven continents for fifty years, my husband and I applaud Northern Tales for the outstanding staff that the company have. Every person we shared time with was extremely professional and went beyond their job description. Each person gave of the self making our experience exceptional. From the positive energy of Cata and Katie at airport pick up, to the first Aurora experience with Katie, Cata and Bernie our first day was wonderful. Our second day was even better. Tom is one of the most outstanding guides that we have ever shared time with. Deeply knowledgeable and passionate about the Yukon, his commitment to ensuring guests have an excellent experience was superb. We enjoyed his sense of fun. The evening with Kevin and Aaron was outstanding. Both these wonderful young men have a sense of fun and are very aware of how much guests are hoping to see the elusive lights. Their photographic knowledge is outstanding. Patiently supporting all who were hoping to capture photos took exceptional skill and sensitivity to the hopes and needs of each person. These two gentle men, indeed gentlemen, gifted me the evening of a lifetime.

1) Yuki, Catalina and Katie were great guides (sorry if I misspelled anyone’s name). Yuki walked close to 100 meters in the field just to ask 2 guests to move to the side so our Aurora picture was perfect, she proactively took this action. She was always asking if everything was ok and walking around to make sure we had everything we needed. Catalina was very fun, also always walking around and checking if everything was smooth for us.
Katie is one of the most knowledgeable guides I ever met, she is also very patient in explaining everything.
2) The fireworks display at NYE was amazing. Overall the guides showed punctuality and kindness.

Hi looks really interesting. Thinking of going in either Feb or March of next year 2021. Coming from Quebec I’m sure we don’t have to quarantine. Are there rooms with 2 single beds?

Hi. In whitehorse we stayed at the Best Western Rush Inn and it worked for us and that is what we were assigned for the tour. It is a hotel of the 90´s with spacious rooms, but it already needs remodeling. On the site of sighting, they are nice cabins where you can have coffee, tea, chocolate and cookies.

Hello!
I plan to travel to Yukon in August 2020.
I want to see aurora, but will the aurora float between 23rd and 29th August 2020?
If I can see the Northern Lights, I want to join your tour. And I wonder when should I make a reservation. It's two people including me.
Is it too late to reserve the tour when we arrive in Whitehorse?

Are the dates of November 13 and 14 good nights to catch the Aurora Borealis ?

It really depends on the weather. If the skies are not clear you will not see them. We were told that from mid Oct to mid Dec there seems to be more unsettled weather and your chances are not as good. Check and see when the Fall Solstice is and that usually is a good time as well. Yellowknife is better than Whitehorse for seeing them.

Hi Northern Tales, can please check if teenagers (aged 14 to 17) are able to operate the snow mobiles and dog sleds? Thanks.

Whitehorse
Hi there! The minimum age to drive a snow machine is 16 years and it is then still the guide who makes the final decision, based on the physical conditions and maturity of the teenager. The 14 year old as well as the 17 year old can drive a dog sled. Thank you!

If you organise your viewing with adventure companies such as Northern Tales, you can hire heavy duty winter gear for CAD 150. Good luck!
