- Dimitris LSydney, Australia44,496 contributionsLovely stationGare du Palais looks like a chateau, but it is only a Train and Bus station. Its architecture is similar to the beautiful Hotel Frontenac. The train station, built in 1915, owes its name Gare du Palais to the fact it's located near the site of a former palace. It is beautifully decorated and is a pleasure being inside. As it's a rather small station it is very easy to find your way around.Visited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 25, 2023

The train station is located not that far from the old town but because we had no clue of where our hotel is plus it was freezing cold so we called Uber. It was actually 400 meter away but Uber charged 2.5 times regular rate. It's still better than trying to walk on icy roads.

We chose to arrive in Quebec by train. We used Via Rail’s Business Class which includes a private car with drinks and dinner. Wonderful old architecture inside and outside the train station.

A nice historic train station with easy in and out, and co-located with the bus terminal. The station is within close walking distance to most areas in Old Quebec. The only thing is this station did not have a Via Rail business lounge.

Old school railway/train terminal. Our train from Montreal arrived on time and we looked everywhere for “Ride sharing”. No signage.
Got out to Taxi line and were 8th or 9th group in line. Tried Lyft…they do not operate here. Tried Uber…app said price was $11, but a 25 minute wait. Ended up taking a taxi cab for $15 (up the hill to the Quebec Hilton). Worth every penny…very steep hills.
Ride share in Quebec City just not a good option yet.

Bog standard offering of a station. Pleasant enough on the outside, spacious on the inside, but poor facilities. Poor choice of food and drink for travelling. Also trying to get a taxi late evening disastrous. May look reasonable, but think about your passengers.

While the building is beautiful, I guess I expected something more. Admittedly the ticket counter is really neat and the preserves older style lighting etc. it’s a beat building but I wasn’t completely overwhelmed as expected.

We arrived here via train after 4 days in Montreal. Comfortable ride through countryside. The Gare du Palais building is one of coolest ones in all of Quebec City.
So should come see it even if your not using its services.

Hi, does the train actually go to this station for Train 26 from Ottawa, or do you need to take the shuttle from Ste Foy? The information on the via site is sketchy, indicates the shuttle is for Train 14, and calling via is a waste of time, they have no one to answer.

At Gare du Palais train station can you park for extended times? How much does it cost?

I do not know the exact answer but a quick search of either the VIA Rail Canada website or the City of Quebec municipal “stationnememt” should give guidance.

Are there any lockers to store luggage for a few hours?
Jacques T
Longueuil, Quebec, Canada21 contributions
Yes, there are lockers. They are generally good for about 24 hours, but you might want to check that when you go there. The cost of the lockers is quite low, under $5.00. You can store quite a good number of bags in them. You will need to get tokens. If the token machine is broken (as it sometimes is), you can ask security for help. Please note the lockers are in the bus terminal. If you are taking the train, Via Rail has its own storage system.
Is there a coffe place with Wifi?
