There is an exterior walking tour you can do, starting at the Laval School of Architecture entrance near the cathedral. Over nine areas, it outlines the history of the complex, the first black slave, various buildings and gardens. The lovely spire at tour's end seems to reach for the heavens. The tour ends at Parc du Montmorency.
You could start there, following the signage in reverse.

Enjoyed the tour of this sprawling campus. Orginally a Jesuit school for priest that converted into Catholic boy's school/college after English took over town. There has been an English (protestant)/French (Catholic) tension for centuries.
This is located a few feet from Funicular in upper town.
Remember you can get a significant discount (20%) if you but tickets to Museum of Civilization, Seminaire de Quebec, and Place Royale Interpretation Center at same time. There is near 50% discount if you show AAA or CAA card.

One of my favorite buildings in all the Old City. It looks so French to me, especially the largest building with the three silver towers. The interior courtyard is one of my favorite semi-hidden jewels of the city. If you head through the wrought-iron gate a little to the left of the Cathedral, you’ll see an arch in the wall of the white building in front of you. Pass through that archway and you’ll enter the interior courtyard, which is in my opinion the most French spot in the whole city. Excellent place for photos, and a great place to step out of the tourist crowds and enjoy the culture from a new angle.

On Sainte Famille Street, you will find the impressive buildings of the Séminaire du Québec. Fonded in 1663 by Mgr de Laval to train priests for nearly 300 years, it is now devoting its efforts to the education of youngsters. Please note that the Seminaire provides a parking lot for $9.00/day which is very convenient and cheap for Québec City.

When visiting Quebec City, one must enter into the interior backyard of this building to see the purity of the architectural lines and take some pictures. We can feel the calm and imagine the students in the backyard centuries ago. Great for photography and relaxation. Very unique in North America and well worth a 5 minutes stop. I have not visited inside the building except when visiting the Musée de l'Amérique Française which is adjacent and shares some ailes of the building.

We were in Quebec on "shore leave" from a cruise ship. We had been to the Montmorency Falls and rode back into town on a city transit bus (#800). We got off the bus near the Citadel and worked our way down hill. Following our visit to Notre Dame Basilica, we walked over to this former seminary (now a college of architecture).
Plauqes in the courtyard tell the story of the seminary days. We did not enter the buildings. Worth visiting if just for the history.

Open the gates and take a look at the Inside court of this historic building sitting next to the Québec Cathedral. It seems to have there forever...one of the first great buildings of the old city

This is a series of buildings that range from the 17th, 18th , 19th and 20th century. It was originally a community of Catholic priests founded by a Bishop Laval. He served a s the first Bishop for Quebec in 1663. The main purpose was to prepare young men as missionaries. The architecture is very beautiful.

My favorite buildings in the city, I think it's actually an architecture school now. You can walk around and inside the walls but you can't get into the buildings themselves that I could find.
