This park is very close to the parliament building and is a nice park to walk around and absorb some unique views of the surroundings.

It’s a nice park to take a short walk or watch the sunset. Many people just relax on the walls and watch the sun go down. Other than that there not so much to see or do here.

The Parc de l'Esplanade is a little park located between 2 gates (St Louis and Dauphine) along the fortifications of Old Quebec on one side and the Rue d'Auteuil on the other. There are parking, a nice playground, toilets and sculptures along the sidewalks. It is very convenient if you have a car and you want to visit the Citadelle, the Parliament or the Plains of Abraham. Don't forget to admire the bust of famous writers, poets and philosophers.

It stretches out toward the Plains, a big park on the heights near the river and part of the old city landscape. Very open and green.

Esplanade Parc is parallel to Rue d'Auteuil between the 2 city gates in the fortification wall - the Porte St. Louis and Porte Kent. Walk on the sidewalk beside Rue d'Auteuil to view several statues to historic people like Dante, Pushkin, Nguyen Trai, and Émile Nelligan, plus one for the Boer War. The historic 1 story stone building near the Porte St. Louis was once a powder house, a remnant from the late 1700s fortification system in Quebec City. Near this building is a very small children's playground and WC building. This park seems to be nestled by the green ramparts of the fortification wall just behind it. I did see people walking atop it by using stairs from the playground area. For me, the Parliament Gardens were much more of a tourist attraction.

Near the parliament gardens is the Esplanade park, a nice and very maintained park with some great views of nearby fountain and a nice resting place during wandering around Quebec, also some marvellous large plant pots with sun flowers.

We woke up to a view of this park in Old Quebec City daily from our hotel room during a recent stay. The park -- a parade ground for British troops in 1830 -- follows the fortress wall at the rear and rue d'Auteuil at the front. The close proximity and its many shade trees and benches took us there a few times for a respite during a record-breaking heat wave.

The park also provided us easy access to steps by St. Louis Gate that lead to the fortress wall, where we walked for a while and admired the views. These include the staging area in the park for horse-drawn carriages. It was fun to watch the horses being hitched up for another day of toting tourists around.

Park features include a children's playground and busts of famous literary figures, such as Italian poet Dante Alighieri and Russian writer Alexander Pushkin, along rue d' Auteuil. Two giant chessboards appear on one of the sidewalks, but I saw no pieces necessary for a game.

Park de l'Esplanade playground is across from La Citadelle (Parks Canada) and Hotel Manoir De L'Esplanade, where there's limited parking curbside. (I also saw a blue Cinepopup for the Quebec film festival Sept. 13-23.) A public washroom is beside the playground and fountain in the park, and a pay lot is conveniently situated there. Otherwise, parking at the Hilton Palais des Congres near Citadelle costs $20. Parking is also below Ville de Quebec Gratuite Utilisation (Ascension de Faubourg) near Charest Est--a further walk up. Walking down the Avenue Honore Mercier would be terribly slippery in winter, but it was a nice stroll to/from the parkade. If you're lucky in circling the park (De L'Esplanade) around 4:00-4:30, you might see the horses that are watered and cleaned by carriage drivers at end-of-day. The best thing about parking at this park is that you needn't move your car; you can visit the Citadelle museum, and head toward Chateau Frontenac, or dine on charming Rue Saint-Jean just downhill from the park. It's a one-stop park that your kids (and pocketbook) will love!
