TERRIFIC experience renting bikes for a ride on the Lachine Canal in Montreal! We are sedentary types and I'm not quite 6 months out from a knee replacement, not exactly Road Warriors. The folks at Ma Bicyclette set us up with their "City Comfort" bikes. Both were Cannondale, mine was an 8-gear Adventure with a nicely padded seat, low step-through. They were $15 an hour with helmets. They provided a map and we rode the approximately 9 km to the point in Rene Levesque Parc and came back in two hours (so experienced cyclists could do it a lot faster!) The path is busy, bumpy in spots and there are a couple of steep spots getting across or under roads, but if I could do it, anyone could.
We don't speak a bit of French and they accommodated us very politely, adjusting my seat until it was juuuust right, which made my ride so much nicer.

We were meeting our son today at the coffee shop .
We all ordered iced lattes and a pastry / muffin and chocolate croissant 🥐.
Nice cafe . Friendly staff . Nice choices of sweets.
Clean washroom.
Even has water dishes outside for visiting dogs that walk by .
Inside and outside seating .
Beer selection & wine 🍷 too.

A fantastic ride with Ma Bicyclette! The location was ideal with easy access to bike path for safe riding. Dave and staff provide great service. Excellent quality bikes, especially the Body Boda by Yuba along with the Yepp baby seat. It was perfect for our 3 year old to enjoy the ride as well.

A great find on the Lichine Canal, near the interesting Atwater market. Good bikes, moderate rental prices. The ride to and from the Old Port along the Lichine anal is safe and interesting. The Atwater market is a good destination as well.

We hired a bike and cruised around the island.
The staff were helpful in directing us in the right direction and pointing out a brewery or 2.
The bikes are in very good condition (as new) and rode very well.
I thought, at $30 for day, the price was fair for what we got.

The Lachine Canal is a great place for a Sunday bike ride, you'll see he's of people out doing just that. My bicyclette is a small shack just across the bridge from the Atwater Market (itself well worth a visit) but they have a good range of bikes kept in excellent conidition, and friendly English speaking staff.
We got two hybrid bikes for 3.5 hours, and rode towards Lachine, out onto the peninsular and then back into the town for lunch. We had a great day out for only $30 each.
Well worth it and we'll probably do it again while we're here.

We had a great time riding with our 10 & 12 year olds. Staff were very friendly, only required drivers license and paid upon return. Rode approx 10km to Rene Levesque Park and then 18km along St Lawrence. Beautiful ride. All bike trails but a little confusing getting back to beginning point just make sure you have the map they give you!!! Grab fresh fruit at Atwaters Market afterwards!!

If like us, you were wondering what to do on an afternoon, this is a perfect attraction.
Riding good bikes on flat terrain is easy and absolutely pleasant.
You would feel like the distance is scarry but it is really done easily without any suffering.
After getting your bikes, head west towards the end of the canal. You will see quite a few people on the week ends as this is a very popular ride for locals as well.
The scenary itself is pleasant but not surprising until you actually get to the René Levesque Park at the tip of the Montreal island. A strip of narrow land which has interesting statues and stuff to climb on for kids. The marina on one side and a very open vue on the other offer a real treat to the eyes.
You should plan on 2 h if you are not going to take a long rest in the park. Or 2.5-3h00 if you really want to enjoy it fully.
There are a few twists on the way that make it a great and memorable outting.
If you are going to be here in mid October and can ride through the colored leaves, it will be a fantastic experience.

We walked from downtown to the bike rental. A good walk but if you are planning to ride the bicycles, you should be able to do it. (Stop at At Water market for food for a picnic) The young woman renting the bikes was very helpful and good at her job. We rented 4 bikes, helmets, saddle bags and chains for about $30 each. We rode for about 3 or 4 hours and covered about 20 miles. The map was very helpful at the beginning but confusing at the end. The first 3/4 of our ride was along the canal or St. Lawrence and was absolutely beautiful. We picnicked in a park overlooking the river. Towards the end of the ride, there were detours not noted on the map and we found ourselves riding in traffic and a little lost. Obviously we found our way back to the rental ! My suggestion is to ride along the canal and river about an hour and a half and then double back. That way you can avoid the downtown and the traffic and getting lost! In spite of the last part of the route, this experience was one of our favorite activities during our 4 days in Montreal and 4 days in Quebec City.

Bonjour SueBee
Nous envisageons un voyage à Montréal en septembre 2016, combien de temps dure la balade
en vélo, car nous pensons rester seulement une journée à Montréal et une nuit, et privilégier Québec
pour monter aux Fjords de Saguenay.
Merci
