I did the East tour earlier this week and it was a fun way to get to know Montreal. Our guide was Sarah and she was really nice. She also gave us tips on where to shop and eat. I didn't do the West tour because I read other reviews recommending the East one. I recommend this tour to anyone... More

We had planned on signing up for this tour but I did not make an online reservation because the weather forecast was dicey, so we waited until the following day, the weather cleared and we asked the hotel to call and make a reservation. Apparently, the online reservation saves a few dollars, which is normal. Anyway, we were relatively satisfied... More

Excellent walking tour gave me a good first time understanding of the old city, both east and west sections of the city. Highly recommend to any first time visitor.

Save a fortune on a European vacation by traveling to Old Montreal in Quebec Province, Canada. You get the same atmosphere, amazing shops and restaurants, street perfomers, and a sense of enjoyment; at an amazingly low expense. Walking through Old Montreal, with narrow streets and cobblestone sidewalks, is very much reminiscent of the quaint, old-world charm found in France. The... More

Took the 1 1/2 hour tour of the Eastern Old Town. Starts in the Cathedral - you go right in and skip the line, which can be long in summer. Louis our guide was just the right mix of historical fact/background sharing and humorous. Fast paced, agree not for small children. Great to get a feel for the Old Town... More

Ann-Marie was an excellent tour guide who gave us a great overview of Old Montreal and its history. This was a wonderful way to start our weekend. We never would have found the cool coffee shop in the old bank building on Rue Saint-Jacques without her direction!

This 1.5 walking tour of Old Montreal - East was led by George... A man with excellent local knowledge and a love of history and storytelling. We met at the Notre Dame Basilica (absolutely breathtaking!) and carried on past old warehouses now converted into living spaces, city hall, and various other notable gardens and buildings along the way. George was... More

Our walking tour guide-Pamela was very informative both of the history and current day regarding Old Montreal. She was concerned about ensuring all could hear her and that we stayed together. She truly understand the history and how to relate it to the group. She was professional and made an effort to connect with group by learning our states or... More

We took this tour today with Jaques. We got a nice introduction to Old East Montreal and le Vieux Port. The problem though is that being the only family with a stroller, we couldn't keep up with the group. Still had a good time and the guide was very friendly.

Great tour guide, great info, great route. It's a nice way to see the old part of the city and to move around for the first time in Montreal. Bring water and comfortable shoes.

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
