We paid for a walking tour with Viator and left to go to the meeting place. While waiting, I checked my email and saw that I got an email from Chelsea Verano asking if we could do a later tour. I said no and that we were already waiting for the guide at the meeting place. No further communication. We... More

We took the Guidatour of Old Montreal East. Our guide was Andre; he was very knowledgable and interesting to listen to. There were a number of children in our group, and he was skilled at engaging them. We did not go into the cathedral since mass was in session, but were able to return later and go in. I highly... You will sample 7 different eateries, all of which clearly represent excellent Montreal eateries, not to be missed. Our guide, Christian was so very personable and knowledgeable about the historical places we visited. The 3 hours of walking seemed to go by so quickly, however you must be able to keep up with the group, those who are impaired with... More

Nathalie, our tour guide, was a fun, knowledgeable guide, very proud of the history and culture. A great overview of the city and what it has to offer. She provided insight as to the French/English history and some of the early explorers. Fascinating!

Highly recommend! Carole was a good guide. Did the tour of Montreal East only. Good history and information for a summer visit.

The tour itself was interesting but our guide Carole was very rude to other tourists and staff outside of the group. We could only feel very embarrassed and uncomfortable being part of the tour. She pushed other people away so we could see inside the church like we booked the church and the others did not. She also stopped traffic... More

Don't book Mr Gitelman. Knows very little and offers what he knows poorly. You will do better on your own with 1 hour of studying a local map.

We did the full-day tour of both East and West Old Montreal, with a break for lunch in between. The pace was great, easy-going with plenty of stops and rests. Much of the explanation focused on the historical periods and the development that came with each, and the guide gave a great overview of the periods so all the nuggets... More

Hello, Thank you for your comments. We are glad to hear that our walking tours were a good start to your week in Montréal. You are totally right about the fact that Old Montréal has some wonderful art items. In fact, there is so much to see in the old district that the most difficult part of the guide's job... More

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
