We did the morning and afternoon tours of Old Montreal with Pascoal. He went out of his way to tell stories of old and new Montreal and personalize the tours. He made several side stops to places a little off the beaten path as well as to explain some of the other places and things to explore in Montreal such... More

Louis with a ponytail was an excellent tour guide, as his family had been in Montreal since the 1700s. He was funny, informative ad friendly and pointed out much that we would have missed walking by ourselves. I highly recommend this tour.

We booked a 3hr walking tour prior to our trip to Montreal. We met our guide, Pascoal, outside the basilica. He introduced himself to us and the other people in our small group. We then started the tour on time and walked to various buildings of interest. Pascoal clearly took an interest in making sure people were having a good... More

A group of 12 friends booked 3 private walking tours for our visit to Montreal directly with Guidatour; They were between 2-3 hours in duration. Our guides were personable and knowledgeable. The tours afforded us with a perfect way to appreciate the history and charm of this lovely city.

There are two walking tours on offer, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, covering different parts of old Montreal. We had decided both would be too much for us so we chose the morning one beginning with the Basilica. The entrance ticket is included in the cost of the tour, so if you are particularly interested you... More

The pre tour went smoothly - that is, they were responsive to my emails and did their best to accommodate us. The administrative part of set up, contract, and payment went smoothly and was fair. That's not always true and always appreciated. Our guide, Angelina, was thoughtful, knowledgeable, and comfortable to be with - important on a long hour private... More

I was part of the Montreal hosting team for a group from South Africa who were on a cross Canada tour. Not only were we shown the amazing beauty of Old Montreal, we were given a Canadian history lesson. After this tour I venture to say that they will understand how Canada was created as well or better than the... More

We took the East and West walking tours with Viator, known as Guidatour in Canada. The guides, Pierre, and Andre, were excellent and we enjoyed the time and learned a lot Each tour is 1 1/2 hours and we did them on two different days. The ticket also includes a return visit to the Basilica Notre Dame where there are... More

I've visited Old Montreal on my own several times and still have not fully discovered it's historical and cultural nuances, so this time around I did the walking tour. I am so happy I did. Our guide seemed a little nervous but she aimed to please. She had a few extra stops which were quite delightful. This is the first... More

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
