- Dimitris LSydney, Australia51,050 contributionsTall towerThe Montreal Clock Tower, or Tour de l’Horloge in French, is located at the entry point to the Old Port. Construction of the tower was completed in 1922 and it was dedicated to the seamen who died in World War I. It’s quite a tall building with a clock at the top. It can be seen from a distance.Visited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten November 12, 2023

Dating from 1919, this iconic structure is 45 meters high and performs double duty as a lighthouse. The Old Port of Montréal’s iconic Clock Tower celebrates its 100th year in 2022. Still a prominent feature of the city skyline, the Clock Tower continues to welcome visitors, watercraft, and tourists as they make their way along the Mighty St. Lawrence River. In addition to commemorating the courage of the seamen of the Merchant Marine who perished in the First World War. Climb the 192 steps to the top, and you'll be rewarded with great views of the St. Lawrence River, Old Montreal, and the Jacques Cartier Bridge off in the distance. We found a plaque at the Tower remembering first two Norwegian vessels with direct route from Europe to Chicago with immigrants and cargo which arrived in Montreal after two month on the sea in 1862/63. From there is great view to Jacques Cartier Bridge, theme park La Ronde on the St Helen's Island or St. Lawrence river with other bridges. Next to it is very pleasant park with plenty trees, which were in blossom, with picnic possibilities. The Clock Tower is part of Clock Tower Quay with a busy yachts marina. You can find there also sand beach with beach umbrellas.Visited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten July 28, 2024

A historic monument, which has withstood the time and tide. Great vantage point to view the city and the river front!

My wife saw a picture of this clock on Instagram and wanted to come here. Much different in reality than in pictures! The clock is quite small, nothing unique about it. Fortunately, it’s by the old port so wasn’t a far walk.

There are almost 200 steps so keep in mind it's not for everybody to get there. Otherwise it has a nice view on the city, except the top place is extremely limited in space and there is a ton of people trying to get there, so it's very very tight. Oh, and it's free!

A monument to Canadian Sailors lost during World War I, the tower is open seasonally and is free to the public. 192 stairs to the top (149ft), the small viewing platform offers spectacular views of old port and the St. Lawrence River. Rest spots on the way up have plaques with facts about the tower. Last two flights are metal spiral staircases. The clock mechanism is by the same maker as Big Ben and still runs accurately. Cost cutting at the time of building means carillon bells were never installed. Unfortunate graffiti mars the back of the clock faces. Worth the climb!

This is a structure built in memory of the Canadian sailors who died in WWI. It is 148ft tall with 192 steps and a beautiful structure at the old port in Montreal, reminds me of the Big Ben in London. I loved it!
