I didn't have high expectations from the Barbie Expo thinking that it was more targeted towards children but I was pleasantly surprised to find how much I enjoyed it! It's an exquisite collection of Barbies with numerous references to pop culture such as movies (Grease, Gone with the wind, Twilight lol), celebrities such as JLO, Cher, Beyonce, Aubrey Hepburn, Elvis), different countries, brands (yes - Coca Cola, Kate Spade) and other popular references. It's a well planned, extremely detail oriented and a beautiful collection to enjoy if you are visiting Montreal whether it's on your own or with kids. The best part is that admission is free and the expo is located on level 2 of the Les Cours Mont-Royal mall which is easy to access in downtown. You can be done in a hour or less depending on how much time you want to spend here. There is a photo booth as well if you want to have a picture taken. Just ensure you have a mask as they required inside the mall.

I am still in awe that an expo of this caliber is FREE?? Open to everyone?! But it is! Leave at least 45 minutes to see all the barbies, including the showcases, which are beyond phenomenal. What makes these barbies so incredible is the detail on many of the designer outfits. You will need time just to dissect some of them, the detail is amazing. You will travel the world through the barbies at this expo and the outfits from all over the world are beautifully handcrafted - these outfits are not the ones you buy in the stores, that's for sure.

You will enjoy outfits by Versace, Bob Mackie, Burberry and much more! The Mackie dresses were simply stunning. And the showcases are incredibly detailed. I spent most of my time looking at the small details, that if you rush, you will not see. I am not even going to load all my photos to keep it a surprise!

It's in a small upscale mall of sorts on Rue Peel. Google maps will help you find it. Don't worry about missing it, it's a permanent exhibit and they have all the social media channels, be sure to follow them! I was so pleasantly surprised I will absolutely visit it again when I go back to Montreal. You don't even need to be a Barbie fan to appreciate the craftsmanship, creativity and fun that this expo provides. It's an activity the entire family can enjoy, even the boys. Although it was winter when we went, it would be a great thing to do on a rainy day too.

I still cannot believe it was free. You would never in a million years see an expo like this for free in the US. The only reason I gave it four out of 5 stars is that they have this adorable Lifesize barbie box for instagrammable photos, but it was dingy and dirty - it really needs to be replaced. I would have loved to have taken a photo in there - but it didn't look like something anyone would want to touch. I wish they would replace it. Also four stars because I am not sure who made all these outfits? Did the designers themselves sign off on them? Would have been fun to know.

Still, it's a must see, you won't see anything like it anywhere else.

So if you are even reading this you have a vague interest in Barbie's. That's the most I can say, I played with them as a child. Since I had time, was in the area and the cost is free, it is totally worth the 10-20 mins you might want to take to walk around. If you actually LIKE Barbie or care more than a bit it's a great show. Some of the outfits are very impressive and or entertaining.

My adult daughter and I went to this expo, on a quiet Thursday night, after arriving by train to the city. It was so fun, and interesting to see the various themed costumes of the dolls (clothes by designers, various outfits of countries, movies, singers, fairy ones, and more). I didn't realize it was such a long-running exhibition! It was great to see how these dolls looked compared to the few outfits that were available, when I played with my Barbie, in the late 60's to early 70's. Back then, girls played with Barbies for hours, especially since there weren't all the toys of today! I would recommend this to others to see. One has already seen it, and another would love to go and see it sometime. We couldn't believe all the rows of display cases, the dolls were in!! It was great that it was free entry!!

This is a quick display of more Barbie Dolls than you will ever see in one place. Some of dolls are placed into location sets such as a fashion show or city street. The fashion show display has a moving runway with dolls modeling clothes and an audience. There are flashing lights also which look like pictures are being taken by photographers. There are theme dresses such as cultural displays, holiday dresses, wedding gowns, etc. Children can get a picture taken in a booth (no experience in the booth) but looked like a fun addition for a child. You can spend hours here or skim through in less than 30 minutes. There is no charge. It is located in a small shopping mall. This display is very professionally presented.

If you like Barbie, if she was, or is, a part of your childhood - take a look! This is not the Barbie I remember, and is exactly the Barbie I remember! It is a small exhibit to walk around in, but Barbie is after all, small.
But in this small space there are soooooo many Barbies, beautiful, stunning, varied..........and a nice display of the newer "every shape" Barbie. You can't help but enjoy the memories as you connect to the vast array; TV shows, famous personalities, gorgeous gowns and everyday styles over many decades. I don't think I have ever taken so many pics in just one place, and enjoyed it so much.

This exhibition really needs to be in an art gallery. The artistry is just sublime. The detail on every doll worth the focused attention they deserve. A great homage to the Barbie brand and if you love art, this too is great art. Many people were photographing the exhibit, but as it was a charity exhibition it would have been great to be able to buy a catalogue. Simply too many dolls to photograph and people taking photos clutter up the space.

A must see for any and all Barbie lovers! This expo is bang smack in the middle of a shopping mall which seems a little random, but it’s so worth the visit. The morning I went it was completely empty- just me and all those Barbies! There are so many of them, from different celebrities, to traditional national dress and a full-on fashion show. So many cool Barbies to see and loads of fun. Lots of nostalgia for me and fab for kids too! Highly recommend checking it out.

I learned about this exhibition while walking through the mall near Peel. It was truly wonderland for me and I enjoyed looking at all the different kinds of Barbie dolls. My dad came to visit the exhibition too later on and took photos of almost every Barbie doll, and shared them with my sister and I, knowing how much we liked Barbies as kids.

Note: I visited a few years ago (around 2013/2014 but cannot submit a review for that far back)

Never really liked Barbie (Sorry)... But this place was fascinating. Well presented displays some with intentional comic effect. Such as a large over sized Barbie box in which you can pose as a Barbie or Ken. I went through it quickly in about 30-40 minutes but if you are a fan or collector it might take you hours. It a free in a small upscale shopping center connected to other shopping malls in downtown. (Get directions before you go)
