My husband and I have just spent the best part of 4 hours taking part in “Beyond the Bagel” Jewish Culinary Tour of Montreal. Our guide was Pamela, who was friendly, informative and a great ambassador! We absolutely adored the stories behind the businesses, many of which still thrive in the Mile End and Plateau districts of the city. We learned about the eat-in diners and restaurants, and about the shops and home produced foods of the area. We walked and walked. But that’s no bad thing, because also we ate and ate! Nearly every stop involved a tasting of some description. And everything was so, so good! Highly recommended and worthy of full marks!

I chose this one over the other tours because it's about the food, right? I did not want cookies or paté or beer in the morning. But bagels? Count me in! It is more like food as it pertains to the history of Montreal and the Jewish Community that created this food. Come hungry. My husband and I shared what was meant for one person. Bagels, pastries, meat sandwiches, and more food than I can name. It's a lot of walking and about 3/4 of the way through, I bailed and took a taxi back to my hotel. The group was going on the Schwartz's, and we had tried that the day before. Everyone else soldiered on. I knew it was time for me to say thanks and bye bye. My husband and I take food tours wherever we go, and this was the most food and the most walking. So, come prepared for that. And enjoy the history, too. Essen.

This was the most memorable part of our weekend in Montreal. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable. She spoke of the Jewish community, how they immigrated to this beautiful place, told stories about family businesses such as the Fairmont Family, Schwartz, Welinski's. Even spoke of Leonard Cohen and showed us his favorite place for breakfast. She was very informative!!! The food was delish and there was definitely plenty of it. I also experienced another food tour that weekend which didn't disappoint but wasn't as informative as this tour. The amount of walking and the amount of food was the perfect balance to a wonderful day spent in Montreal. Won't forget and highly recommend it!

We love doing food tours in new cities and this one did not disappoint. Learned a lot about the Jewish culture both past and present while walking and eating. Highly recommend!

We would highly recommend this tour for a unique experience and a different way to see parts of Montreal. In between the various stops for food, you get history of the community and neighborhoods, stores that had an impact on the area, and various important individuals who had settled in Montreal at the turn of the 20th century. Of course, the food is delicious. Best part is that it is a walking tour, so you aren’t overly stuffed and bloated- you earn the food at each stop.
