I did the 1 hour introductory session and then another 30 minute riding session. The staff explained everything very clearly (in English and French) so that it was really easy to get the hang of it once I was on the flow. They were very helpful and friendly throughout the sessions, giving lots of tips and personal attention. Overall a great way to spend some time in this fabulous city.
Its fairly easy to get to on public transport. Lots of shops nearby if you are travelling with less adventurous people :)
One minor word of warning... make sure you pay attention to what they say about protecting your neck. Mine is a little sore now.

This was my first experience at Maeva Surf and I really enjoyed it. The trainers were very nice and paid attention to every rider. Groups are usually a maximum of 6 for their semi-private offering at a cost of $50+ tax per person. I found it a bit expensive and short for a first time initiation. You essentially get a 30 minute demonstration off the water and then the surfing is the next 30 minutes, however, given that you're 6 in the group, you share that time, so each rider basically gets to get on the wave anywhere from 5-6 times, with most rides only lasting a few seconds, so you can see why I believe this activity is on the expensive side.
Overall, I still enjoyed my experience and my kids loved trying it out.

They just turned away my 7 year old daughter who has already surfed in Maui! Upon entering the place nobody even would say hi to us. I had to approach the “little boys” to ask them if we could get served. They immediately said to go ask someone else then another boy came to tell us she is too small and that she should be at least 55 inches tall, even though another small girl was already using the facility. Anyhow, my daughter has already surfed by herself in Maui and I thought this would be fun but I guess it’s only for people who say bonjour and not hello.

Like the title of this review says...how time has changed things at maeva, it was not our first time at maeva nor was the second, we have been here a few times.
My last review was the good and this one wil be the bad, just to give a heads up to everyone what to expect when you get the bad as we did.
Everyone knows coming to maeva surf its not cheap, let alone when you take the one hour course, i brought my daughter (6yrs old) and she was in a group of 6, no surprise so far, as thats the case most of the time , groups of 6...she was matched with older kids which also its ok , not alot of 6yrs go , so far so good BUT when it came to her turn to surf she never got her fair share on the surf, let me explain,
because she was young, she often fell off the board fast, so barely being on it for seconds , so instead of the teacher saying ok try again she let the other kids go so my daughter had to wait her turn again , and the other kids were good so they were staying on the surf for awhile before they fell, i was fuming and very angry, ( i won`t mention names) i felt so bad for my daughter standing there and freezing always waiting for her turn and not understanding why she wouldn`t practice longer, and to make matters worst when her turn came she was at the top then, she said she wanted to start from the bottom so the teacher said ok go ahead go down, as soon as she made it down she said sorry times up.....
Now i was so mad that i couldn`t talk to management on that day, had to let the dust settle or else it was going to get ugly. So the very next day i called and left a message to management, no returns....so again the next day i called again and left a message and again no return.
So for now this place is a hit or a miss for me, most of the teachers here are great some not, and from the looks of it management doesn`t care much since THEY don`t even return calls, too bad because they USE to be awesome and now , no more...
regards

We celebrated our two Scorpios at Maeva Surf and birthday boy and girl were really happy. Victor was fun, welcoming and really sweet with our 6 year old daughter. There were smiles all around, and we'll be going back for sure.

We had such a great time. My daughter of 12 and Nephew of 16 had a great experience and the rest of the family had just as much fun watching all the surfers. The price is a little high which is unfortunate as we would like to surf more often and will but just not as often; 1$ per minute just does not permit to do this activity too often. We will repeat again 1 or 2 times a year or more often if we find sales or coupons. Thanks again Marc - Andre for the good time ... 5 stars to you!
