Neighborhood: Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.

    Don't go on the weekend
Went to celebrate a 70th with 5 friends. The package deal was good with lunch and services. Our service was a little inconsistent from provider to provider which was disappointing. The entry pool was very busy and not spa like at all.
Thank you for your review. We are glad you enjoyed your spa retreat and lunch. We value your feedback and apologize for any inconsistencies you encountered with the services. We understand that a seamless and enjoyable experience is crucial, especially when celebrating a special occasion. Our top priority is the comfort of our guests, and we will address these issues with our management team to ensure the best possible experience for our visitors, particularly during our busiest weekend periods. Unfortunately, we cannot locate you in our system with the name provided here on Trip Advisor. If you would be open to discussing your concerns further, please reach out to us at spa@elmwoodspa.com. We hope to welcome you and your friends again for a more enjoyable and relaxing experience.

    Nice first spa experience
First time at this famous spa , of any spa. The check in experience was welcoming . Very clean three level facility . I went for a fire and ice pedicure , which truly helped my swollen legs . The tech was warm and welcoming . I would say this place is very nice . But for a tranquil Oasis , I would have expected more in terms of noise level . I wass in the manicure pedicure area , I felt like i shouldn’t have to hear the conversations and laughter of the manicurists . And I think tranquil spa like music could have been played to add to the ambience . Otherwise , I don’t really have a comparison to what a spa should be like , since it’s my first one .
Thank you for sharing your experience at Elmwood Spa. We're delighted that you found our check-in process welcoming and enjoyed our clean and spacious facility. We apologize for any noise disturbance you experienced during your visit. Creating a tranquil oasis is paramount to us, and we understand the importance of a serene environment for relaxation. Your feedback will be shared with our spa management team to provide the necessary coaching to our aesthetician team to ensure our guests receive the most enjoyable experience possible. We hope that despite this inconvenience, you were able to enjoy the benefits of our fire and ice pedicure treatment. We strive to provide exceptional service and ambiance to all our guests. If you would like to discuss your concerns further, please don't hesitate to reach out to our Senior Manager of Spa Services at hmackay@elmwoodspa.com. She will gladly assist you. We hope to welcome you back for an even more enjoyable spa experience.

    Lovely Oasis with Fantastic Staff
After a stressful few months, I booked a day at Elmwood. I had an hour deep tissue massage, a shellac pedicure and a body wrap. All of the treatments were wonderful - especially the massage with Frank. I wish I'd booked 90 minutes! The lunch was also very good. The only downside are the 'water services,' which are in serious need of upgrading. Everything else gets 5 stars from me!
Hi Lisa! Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us! We're thrilled you enjoyed your day at Elmwood Spa and that our staff, especially Frank, provided such wonderful service. We will be sure to pass along your kind words to him and the rest of our team. We strive to provide an outstanding and relaxing experience for our guests. Regarding the Water Therapies, while we aim to preserve the historic character of our landmark building, we are open to exploring new directions and continuously strive to improve our facilities and services. Thank you again for choosing Elmwood Spa, and we can't wait to welcome you back for another rejuvenating experience!

    Serenity
Booked as a couples massage, this was truly a treat from start to finish. We arrived at 9:30 am and were promptly greeted. After filling in the required forms we were directed to the second floor for the locker rooms. Upon entering the locker room you are provided with long robe and rubber flip flops. The ladies locker room is well appointed with a hot tub, sauna, showers, as well as cool lemon water. After a shower to remove hair products and lotions, we went to the third floor for water therapy. Here there is enforced a whisper policy which was very nice - kept the serenity. Water therapy included a pool, hot tub (which unfortunately, the jets were not working) and Turkish sauna. Again cooling lemon water is provided, but bar service is also available if desired (at additional cost). After an hour of water therapy, it was time for our hot stone massage. My therapist was Yu, my husband’s was Robert. What a wonderful experience. We were asked if there were any special concerns they needed to know about before starting and Yu checked on how I felt throughout the 80 minute massage. After the massage we had lunch (still in our robes!) on the 4th floor - you choose to dine inside or on the porch. The three course lunch was delicious! My appetizer was chicken and shrimp skewers, my main course was pesto shrimp and pasta. Dessert was salted caramel cheesecake. Absolutely delicious!
Hi Betty. Thank you for your review! We’re thrilled you and your husband enjoyed our facilities, the massage, and the dining experience. It’s wonderful that our team, including Yu and Robert, provided you with a memorable massage. Our team is committed to delivering exceptional service and takes great pride in that. We’re glad that the tranquillity of our Water Therapies and the delicious three-course lunch added to your relaxation. Thank you again for choosing Elmwood Spa, and we look forward to welcoming you both back soon!

I paid $361.60 for two 50-minute massages, which is much pricier than an average RMT in Toronto. I thought the water therapy and facilities would justify the price... the pool facilities are about what you'd expect of an average 3- or 4-star hotel in North America... I was deeply disappointed. Plus it wreaked of chlorine and dried out my skin. There's a steam room (no dry sauna). The RMT was friendly and good and the facilities were clean.

Dear Valued Guest, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with a review, and for letting us know about your experience! Though we are delighted that you enjoyed your massages and the service provided, we are sorry to hear that the Water Therapies did not meet your expectations. We continually make upgrades to the space, and most recently have finished a multi-million dollar renovation to our Water Therapies area which includes a swimming pool, whirlpool, and steam rooms, in addition to a sun room and pool-side lounge where guests can enjoy snacks and drinks from our Juice Bar. Though the pool does use chlorine, we have checked the recent readings and all levels were within parameters. We appreciate you reviewing your visit! Best, Marie Picton, Executive Manager

My initial interaction with Elmwood Spa was shaky when I was trying to book during the time they were having technical issues with their phone system. However, eventually I was able to get through and book. I am very happy that I did as I had a wonderful time!
It was my first time there and booked the birthday bliss spa package. Perhaps it's because I went on a Thursday but I did not feel it was crowded, I was able to enjoy the water therapies alone and all protocols were followed.
Alba and Monica did a great job on the body scrub/massage and mini facial, respectively. Food was good; not a huge selection but it was fine for lunch. Customer service was good but it would have been nice if I was told about complimentary coat check upon check-in (told by staff after I stuffed my coat in the small locker). 2nd floor customer service provided me with two lockers since the lockers were small and couldn't hold everything I had.
Overall, it was a great experience and relaxing time. It is pricey but I would return again for a special occasion.

Dear Valued Guest, Thank you for taking the time to review your experience with us. We are very sorry that your experience did not start off well. Unfortunately, we have been experiencing intermittent technical difficulties on the phones in addition to a higher than usual volume of inquiries, but are glad that we were able to connect and welcome you to the spa. It is delightful to hear that you enjoyed your visit with us, including the services, amenities and 3 course lunch. We thank you once again for reviewing your visit and we hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you again for a special occasion. Best regards, Marie Picton, Executive Manager

I can't speak to the spa experience as I never got there. Multiple attempts to book a day spa by phone (from a city other than Toronto) as a gift and lengthly waits on hold followed by someone saying they were too busy to book me and would call back, but never did.
Hope their in-person service is better than that!

Trish, we are so sorry to hear that your booking experience has not been reflective of our standards of excellence. We have been experiencing higher than usual call volumes with Valentine's Day. It is always our top priority to attend to guests in a timely manner, and we appreciate you bringing this to our attention so that we can raise the issue with our management team.

This has, by far, been my worst experience. I was running late (my fault), there was lots of traffic getting into the city. I got there and got a 20-minute massage (I am surprised they were not willing to work with me and offer an alternative) because I was late and charged the total price of $211.31; now, had they given me a choice, I would have left, which would have been cheaper than wasting my time with that massage. Afterward, they put you in the locker where you can get water therapy; at this point, I did not want to waste my time with the facial; everything seemed pointless and useless, so I left. I would not recommend this place.

Hi Voula, we regret to hear that your experience at Elmwood Spa did not meet your expectations. We strive to provide our guests with an enjoyable and relaxing experience, but as you were 20 minutes late and all our services are time-bound, we informed you your massage time would be affected. We require guests to arrive at least 30 minutes before their services to ensure that they can relax, prepare, and receive complete services. As you booked a package, which included a 50-minute Swedish massage, Water Therapies, and a 50-minute Essential Facial, we could not reduce the price of the massage because the package was already giving you a discount of $72. It's unfortunate that you decided to cancel your facial. Please note that as per our cancellation policy, we require a 48-hour notice to cancel or reschedule à la carte services or Spa Retreats. Therefore, the cancellation fee was charged. If you have any further concerns, please feel free to contact our Contact Centre Manager at spires@elmwoodspa.com. She will be happy to assist you. Thank you.

Very relaxed atmosphere and always excellent services. I gave been to many spas over the years but The Elmwood is my go to spa at home and still my favourite. Beautiful building and history too. Highly recommend if you want something not too ostentatious but highly professional and relaxing.

For an upscale spa in Toronto, I was very disappointed with my experience. The pool area was loud and crowded, the hot tub was at capacity for the majority of my time in the pool area and there were no available chairs. As well, the locker room was busy, there was a long line up for check-in and the elevators were packed. It was not the relaxing experience I expected. When I told the receptionist about my experience, her response was "yeah, it's really busy today. You should come back on a Tuesday." Very disappointed.

I have been to this spa many times and have always walked away very happy. Obviously, prices have gone up everywhere, but Elmwood Spa's rates did not go up as much as St. Anne's (almost double now for the day spa). Honestly, I would not have booked my friends and I in unless I had heard about the 40th anniversary promotion of a complimentary lunch. I have had their lunches on my birthday, also free of charge and I just love them. I will say, they should include a cold or hot beverage to this offer just to make it complete. It goes a long way to offer even a coffee free of charge. Overall, my friends and I had a fabulous time. I really enjoy the water therapies, the comfy robe, the slippers, the teas, cucumber water, etc. My massage was excellent. All the tension in my shoulders was gone. Checking out took a while. Only one attendant with 4 of us checking out. I will definitely return because it is a peaceful and relaxing environment, tucked away in the middle of the city. Being in the city too, makes it easy to get to. We drove, but public transit is just fine especially when you can do a little shopping at the Eaton's centre or along Yonge St after this awesome day at the spa!

I was in for a visit for a day spa package. I had an amazing experience, as always. The water therapy were also great. Sadly people did not keep their tone down in the spa which made relaxation more difficult in the water therapy section.

From booking the reservation with Carol to the quintessential Taste of the World spa experience with Sandra M, to the scrumptious meal on the Terrace, Elmwood Spa exceeded my expectations!!!

Everyone was very excited about the Taste of the World package. It started off with a body scrub, then hot/cold shell massage, followed by one of the best facials with an algae peel. One hundred and ten minutes of bliss. Thank you again Sandra M!

Lots of staff available to help checking in and out, in change rooms, waiting areas, etc. Those I connect with were happy to make the experience positive and memorable.

In terms of self care, this is a must do.
