Neighborhood: Chinatown
Toronto's main Chinatown has the honor of being the largest in North America. Gaping down across Dundas Street West and Spadina Avenue, the area is a wonderful medley of shops and restaurants, busy signs and bright red gates, a destination for foodie fun. Chinatown's streets are always bustling, packed with people and outdoor stalls hawking fresh produce and products. The restaurants and authentic marketplaces that shoulder in against each other display shining roast ducks and menus studded with dumplings and noodle bowls. The air is pervaded with music. different languages, and the smell of fried food and mouth-watering desserts. Chinatown's restaurants represent a broad range of fare, from traditional Szechuan and Shanghai foods, to other Asian delicacies, including some of the top Japanese, Vietnamese, and Korean spots in the city. Whether you're in the mood for a sit-down tea house or a bubble tea to go, Chinatown is the spot to enjoy an exciting walk and the promise of leaving satisfied.

One of the last surviving music venues in Toronto with a rich history. Terrific location for experiencing live music in a more intimate setting than large venues. Friendly staff passionate about music. I love coming to this place every time we are in town. Tasty dishes and amazing atmosphere. If your visiting Toronto you must at least pop in for a drink. Definitely a place to go and enjoy an evening.

From the outside it is very unassuming but then you enter a musical history museum. So many famous acts have played at the venue. There is a pool table, plenty of beer and spirits. You can order food from A&W which is passed through the wall. The staff are nice and friendly. A must see in Toronto.

The old man bartender is the rudest person I have ever encountered in the service industry. Actually told us we were annoying and asking to get kicked out because we asked for water around 1pm. We were a group of seven with 5 people being from out of town. I have been to this place a few times but after the horrible service and name calling we received, I will not be returning and will NOT be recommending this place to anyone anymore. In fact, moving forward I will be telling people to avoid the Horseshoe Tavern like its the plague.

Good place to stop off for a drink and rest while on a recent walking trip in the Entertainment district before heading down to the Harbourside. We enjoyed sitting outside in the wee patio area watching folks go by enjoying our well deserved drinks.

The 'shoe is an institution and rightly so.
The best bar and music venue in the city.
Just very very cool by being itself.
100's of visits and I'll never tire of the place.

This bar is a great place to get beers and listen to local bands. Definitely get there early if you want a place to sit or if you want to get a spot near the stage.

In Toronto for 4 nights stay from the North East of England - went here to see a band - friendly bar staff - band wad good but the tables were dirty and the seats old and ripped and the flooring smelt awful - even the stage looked as though it hadnt had a good clean in years - we are used to old and characterful bars where we live but dirty and smelly is not pleasant to sit and drink in

The iconic Horseshoe Tavern, established in 1947 has had so many legendary musicians grace their stage. It is a must see stop in Toronto period. Regardless of my 5 star experiences here, or others 1 star experience, it is an integral establishment to the Canadian music scene. Check out the checkerboard floors the Tragically Hip so iconically sang about!

Now for the nitty gritty... the Shoe at first glace is your typical dive bar, a lot of wear and tear, old photographs and gig posters line the walls. Average beer, old school cocktails (with new school names), and a mix between professionals to the more gruff folk sit at the bar. The staff on the other hand are anything but average.

No matter their position, each staff member takes a genuine, unique approach to customer service. I don’t feel this type of service is trained. I feel it is demonstrated by ownership, and trickles down to the employees who then stamp it with their own personal love of the hospitality industry, their regulars, live music, history and culture. How else can you explain retaining phenomenal bartenders for 50 years!? Security/Door Staff for 30 years!? Having not visited the Horseshoe in over 5 years I’m so pleased to see something’s never change.
