    The Trap-Free Amethyst Experience
Visited September 2, 2020. The owner is amazing, the amethyst is great and the prices are really affordable. We visited the better marketed amethyst mine that charges an admission fee earlier this summer. Since that visit and reading more about Amethyst we decided to try a less tourist oriented mine. On a whim we chose this mine as it had less signage. We couldn't have been more happy, the owner who is an older gentleman was a delight. He mentioned that we could fill a 2 gallon pail for one fair price! We found the amethyst to be much better quality than the other admission fee mine (what was available in the you-dig section). If you are looking for Amethyst in Thunder Bay this is the place to go.

    Lots of Amethyst
Excellent place for amethyst collecting. The owner Lynden is a great guy. His piles contain lots of specimens and the cost is very reasonable. Better quality specimens are also for sale at a reasonable price. We went to other mines in the area and this was by far the best in our opinion in terms of quantity, quality and cost. If you have kids they will have a blast here.

    An interesting adventure
Appreciated not having to pay an entrance fee. We managed to find one treasure and many other amethyst rocks. We brought all our own tools, hand shovels, pick? , hammer, protective glasses, and gloves. I noticed some enthusiastic individuals also brought ear protection and a wagon. The shop had many amethyst specimens for very reasonable prices. I did get several slivers at the packing station. I wasn’t wearing my gloves at this point. The boards need to be replaced for a safer experience. Owners were very friendly. Rock enthusiasts were very helpful in guiding us to finding our treasures. My six year old grandson was so thrilled to find amethyst. Will definitely be back.

    MINE...ALL MINE!!
What a great little find!! I read the reviews from other travellers and we were not disappointed when we descended upon this Amethyst Mine. Linden was quietly working away and quickly instructed us on how to walk around the open mine and fill our little bucket with Amethysts. It was a fun afternoon and and we were able to bring home some gems as little tokens from our trip to Thunder Bay. A MUST DO!!!

Great amethyst, great prices, and a great owner.
I spent 3 hours at this mine and wish I'd spent more time there. ALL the praise for this mine is true. The many types of beautiful amethyst here are fairly easy to find and don't require much washing. There are also lots of great, professionally cleaned samples for sale at reasonable prices. The owner is a very accomodating, generous, and likeable gentleman. I highly recommend this experience to people of all ages.

    Excellent
What a Beautiful Place. We got to mine our own crystals and found a lot. A whole pail and it took us no time at all to find them. We are very happy with the knowledge that was shared with us about the area and the pieces we picked to take home. Tools were supplied and we had many options of where to go mining. The experience was nothing I have got to do before and I loved it. I highly recommend going and trying this experience yourself. The prices were great and I will go again when I pass through this area in the future.

    Our 40th Anniversary Fun
My husband and I went to Thunder Bay for our Anniversary and I wanted to go mining. I already knew we had to bring our own tools and they helped. We ended up getting some real nice amethyst. The owner is so nice too!! I would love to go again. We found this from the bucket when we got back to the hotel!

Fun experience for the whole family
The whole experience was unique and different. It was tough to find a "hidden gem" but we found some rocks with amethyst pieces embedded. Nothing dazzling though... The souvenir shop had the dazzling amethyst to purchase.

I am so glad the Blue Point Amethyst Mine is now open again following it's COVID closure. The new owner, Jordan, is so knowledgeable and passionate about amethyst, I can't help but get excited about it too, and add new specimens to my collection. As I observed, he is also very kind to the children and encourages their interest in rocks. Thank you Jordan: I will be back in August.

This mine is THE mine to go to in the Thunder Bay area. We didn't know what to expect, but we trusted TripAdvisor reviews, and took a chance on this diamond in the rough. And, boy, did that risk ever pay off. It is a real gem. The owner and his assistants are so incredibly friendly and helpful, and the mining experience was authentic and fair in its pricing. We arrived later in the day, but the owner let us stay for as long as we liked as we dug around in the dirt and rocks, pounded away on rocks with hammers, and generally had a blast. We found A TON of really great amethyst and they only charged $20 a bucket (and it could be an overflowing bucket). They even gave us boxes and newspaper to wrap our gems in for transportation. Seriously, this is the real deal. There were no admission fees (the other mine just four miles closer to Thunder Bay charges an admission fee just to park and then a per-pound price for seconds, thirds and fourths quality stuff.) We got top quality amethyst stones at a third or less of the price. We really loved the owner, and Paul and his wife. Really great people. Just a note to people coming here: It's off the road a bit, but keep following the signs... when you get to the place, you'll see a bus, a shack and a couple of camping trailers... you're in the right place... don't worry. As we continued our circle tour with several boxes of rocks in our car, we told everyone we encountered to go to this mine. We hope they did, because it was a highlight of our vacation. Thanks Blue Point!

We come up to Thunder Bay just to get amethyst, so this trip we decided to hit both Blue Point and Panorama. I think if you know what to expect from both places, you will have an excellent time.

Blue point is the place to go if you want to get a lot of amethyst without breaking the bank. There's no fancy store front, no big fancy signs, or even employees. You go there, you meet the owner, and pay him a flat fee per bucket of amethyst. No admission fees, stay as long as you want. Super laid back, but bring cash since there's no credit card machine!
