Usually once a twice a year (as a returning student) my friends and I will hike the Mountain. One side has gorgeous views of the lake and nature and mountains, but the other side is just a disappointing view of the "city" of Thunder Bay. It's a fun experience either way.

This is one of those places that people always take someone from out of town but the locals may wait years to go see. It's a lovely compliment to the view from the Terry Fox Lookout, you see the city stretch out from the other end. The summer is the best time to visit and you have to be aware... More

Mount McKay has been a long time favourite of mine; some may balk at the $5 admission fee, but the newly paved road and improvements around the lookout (pow wow grounds etc.) make it evident that the money is going right back into improving it. The only frustration is the poor shape of the walkway at the top that provides... More

The scenic lookout is nice but if you walk up the rest of the way you will get the premium views of the area. I left a photo in the gallery so you can get an idea of where it is.

Went up there because we heard of the sweeping views, ok but not as great as advertised. Couldn't find the trail, not marked

We parked at the bottom and walked/ran up the road (10-15min) to the look out point, then continued to hike up the dirt path(located at the upper parking lot) up to the top(15-20min). This path was a bit muddy and slightly rugged in areas, so wear decent shoes! If you aren't interested in getting close and personal with wildlife we... More

While in Thunder Bay you have to go on a hike! If you don't have a lot of time a great place to go is Mount McKay! There is a scenic look out if you don't hike that is beautiful but the 2km hike is quick but a good workout! A native landmark worth the trip. Inexpensive.

What an incredible place to visit. Located on Fort William First Nation territory, it's worth the five bucks a car to get in. Drive right up the mountain to the edge of the cliff.
