We arrived via a cruise ship late and saw the sunset. It is nice if you can spend a longer time to see the town and island. There is much to offer on tram rides, butcher’s garden etc.. the night view of the harbor is very pretty.

This tiny island is beautiful, with a stunning view of the river and parliament buildings. I especially recommend going during a pow-wow, the native reenactment on this island are great.

I came to Victoria Island at night to figure out it has excellent view on Parliament Hill and Rideau Locks. It also has some historical buildings that were not burned during the great fire. Nice place to stop

Other than an old relic of a building there is nothing to see, except the river and the back end of Parliament Hill.

Located between Ottawa and Gatineau on the Ottawa river, it is accessible via the du Portage bridge. You can find many activities there during the summer and fall. The local papers and tourism mags usually have a schedule for this location.

I had a morning tour where we had a native American breakfast and then watched some dance performances. The food was fantastic especially the venison sausages and the banock. The performers were great, they explained what all the dances meant, the meaning of the constumes and how they make costumes. The beadwork itself takes days! I had a lot of fun, it was very informative and I recomend anyone who has the time to do this tour. Though I am a bit confused, it is listed here as Victoria Island but I was told it is now called Turtle Island?

Read up before you go - otherwise there is not much you will take away from the place. Some interesting things happened here over the years but I found so much wasn't said that for avisitor they may wonder why they bothered to visit.

Sited on the ottawa River, it has one of the best spots to see the river, Parliament Hill and Ottawa. It also has very interesting native culture and heritage activities.

The history of this place. Sit near the water and visualize canoes coming down from the North in early Spring. Cree, Objiwa and Nipissings coming here to trade. More recent, French voyageurs working for Hudson's Bay Co. and the Northwest Co. Etc.

How do I get onto the island from my hotel, can you walk say from the Supreme Court or do you have to use public transport

Yes you can walk from the Supreme Court. There are no public transit stop on the island that I'm aware of. There is also an access road and parking lot if you have a car.

Are there picnic tables on Victoria Island? washrooms? bbqs? I understand that
parking is free, at least. We're looking for a picnic site near water.

I was just there yesterday and there are no facilities in the park that I could see.
However if you walk out to the east end of the island during sunset you'll get a wonderful view view of Parliament and the Supreme Court!
