24 Sussex is the official residence of Canada's Prime Minister, and is located directly across from Rideau Hall, the residence of the Governor General.

It is a pretty street, and 24 Sussex is a pretty house, but it is under heavy security, not open to the public, and has fairly thick gardens at its front. In other words, one can't visit there at all and one cannot see it easily from the street, although if on foot a pretty good look can be achieved.

This really isn't an attraction for anyone other than "oh, here, this is where the Prime Minister lives." However, it is near Rideau Hall, which is often open and well worth a visit, and along a superb walking and biking path around and through Rockcliffe Park, the most upscale section of Ottawa with large and interesting houses and homes, many of which are occupied by ambassadors and other diplomats.

There's no public access to 24 Sussex and you can barely make out structures from the street in the summer. Trees and shrubs in the way. Peer through the fence, wave to the PM, and then go visit Rideau Hall and grounds across the street.

the house at 24 Sussex Drive is not open to the public. It is a private residence for the PM of Canada. The house is in need of about $10 million in renovation, a sad affair really.

First of all I cant understand how we the taxpayer fund this and we get blocked with a ton of trees as our only view of the place. You can't even stop to try and look thru the trees before a suited officer stares you down. I don't even know why people bother advertising this location if you can't even see it!

The Official Prime Minister's Residence is enclosed by a large gate guarded by police officers. Don't visit the Prime Minister, visit his neighbour the Governor General.

You can make a day of visiting of visiting many great sights in Ottawa.....leave the car at your hotel, take local transit & tours, you'll see more, take better pictures, discover places to return to & be more relaxed. ....whether you like airplanes, military history, art & culture, different eateries....this is a must, especially if you've never been to Ottawa. TIP:....if you go, any family, group, couple or single can book a room at most Universities (to sleep, eat, rent-a-car, visit a museum, take a tour one should book ahead, esp. Apr.15th to Aug. 15th )

The Prime Minister's Official Residence in Ottawa is nice, but you can barely even get close enough to see it properly, let alone see the inside of it. Better of going to Rideau Hall across the street.

The Prime Minister's of Canada's official residence. It's nice to see, tours are not available and currently the Prime Minister and his family is living elsewhere while the home is reburished.

It's cool to say you have seen it, and really you do get pretty close but it is hard to see behind all the trees and the fence, also he's not living there now.... but its right across from the Governor General's house so worth the little detour.

I would strongly recommend a trip down Sussex Drive to see the house of the Prime Minister of Canada and the Governor General of Canada. Because of the trees which block the view the Prime Minister's House is not clearly seen, however, the Governor General's House is available for tours and one is able to enter the main gate an explore freely the grounds.
