Great stop on a trip, for all ages. Me and my family went here and loved it. There are lots of hands on activities throughout the museum. There is so much to see, and do. Lots of photo worthy moments.

Nice museum with interesting exhibits and right now they have a special exhibit called survival of the slowest which costs a little extra but I love sloths so to see the sloths it was worth the extra cost. The outside looks like a castle and...More

Great place to visit! Great information at all stations. Great for kids, many interactive areas. There is a gift shop with lots of stuffed toys, appealing to kids. There is also a cafe if you are feeling hungry.

I have always gone on the free evening - after 5pm. Started off with a snack in the café and waited for entrance. This place is so full - each floor having one or two themes - that one evening is not enough - one...More

This is an absolutely stunning museum. We (my husband, my 5 and 10 year olds and myself) went during christmas break. The line to get in was ridiculously congested and unorganized but after we got through we enjoyed visiting the entire museum. We used a...More

The Nature Museum is a great place to spend the day. The butterfly exhibit & survival of the slowest exhibits are pretty cool. The entire museum is well laid out & quite interesting.

The building has a giant white balloon jellyfish in a glass enclosure which is displayed above the main entrance. The colours at night always attracted me to go in, but one day I decided to pay a visit while checking out the butterfly exhibit. Entering...More

Thanks for your inquiry. The Ottawa public library (among others) offers a pass that you can borrow for admission to the Canadian Museum of Nature. You can find out more on the library's web site. (I tried to include the... More

Thank you for your inquiry. Apologies for the delay. Summer is a busy time, particularly on a rainy day, or on an extremely hot day when it's even too hot to be at a beach. We open at 9 am. If you arrive early, you won't... More

Visiting Ottawa over the weekend (5 Replies)
Hello everyone, My wife and I will be visiting Ottawa over the weekend (arriving Saturday and leaving Monday). We've never been to Ottawa before. While I have done some research on places to visit and things to do, I'd like to ask for your suggestions as well. Must see items for us:Royal Canadian Mint, ByWard Market, Notre Dame Basilica, Canadian Museum of Nature. Other locations that I have considered: ByTown Museum, Canadian War Museum, National Gallery of Canada. Since we will...More

The Mint, the Basilica, the National Gallery and the By Ward Market are all in the same locale, so makes sense to visit them as a group. The tour of the mint takes an hour, book in advance, so that sets the time. The church is about a half hour, a walk through the Market, maybe an hour. Add more time if visiting shoppes, boutiques, foodie places are a priority. Gallery could take anywhere from an hour to a whole day, depending on your interests. Bytown Museum is small, an hour max....More

Need some advice on our family trip itinerary (33 Replies)
I'm planning a family trip to Canada for July 2013. It will be hubby and me and our 3 kids (17, 13 and 8 at the time). I will be getting airfare next week due to a coming up promotion, so I'm in a rush to make a preliminary itinerary to know how many days in total we need. We will fly into Chicago and from there to Buffalo, where we'll be renting a car and we'll be returning it to Bufalo again at the end of the trip. I'm aware of the driving distances involved, but we'll be saving $1200...More

Sounds pretty good, but I'd switch day 12 and 14 in Toronto....replace Little Italy with Queen W, and day 14, Queen W with Little Italy, 4 nights in Toronto sufficient for things on your list as you can browse and have dinner in the evening in some of the areas(Little Italy, Distillery District).............the Ontario Science Centre is great place f.y.i................., Day 15 and 16.......you need to factor in driving time from Toronto to Niagara Falls, at least 1 1/2 hour depending on...More
