The falls are spectacular at night because of the coloured lights placed under and around the water. In the winter the ice formed weird and beautiful scultures that are lit up by the lights making a wonderful night-time sight.

If you visit Ottawa, make a point of driving out to the Falls, and wandering around the Hogs Back site. You are not far from Mooney's Bay sand beach, there is free parking, you can wander along both the Rideau Canal and Rideau River, and picnic. Near the Falls (where fishermen report catching the rare Muskie) there are generally lots... More

Good time to visit is before viewing other attractions in the morning. Numerous viewing locations allow very scenic photos and free entry and parking is always welcome. Worth an hour visit.

I made the trip to the "falls" by taxi (around $30) but it was really just a river and a weir with some rocks, not worth the effort unless you want to take in a stroll through the extensive park

Stopped by after a day of sightseeing. Falls are pretty, nice walking paths. Recommend visiting before rush hour in the afternoon. Recommend driving up the eastern side of the canal and back the western side to see all the sites along the canal.

Nature right in the city, where the Rideau River meets the Rideau Canal. In the summer, wild water crashes over the rocks in a beautiful parkland setting. The frozen falls in winter are equally impressive. There are paths near the falls for the more adventurous, benches for those who prefer to just watch and lots of grassland where children can... This is a nice park for scenery and quiet time. It is not as bustling and crowded as Mooney's Bay park next door. The falls are pretty to look at, and there is food available along with tables and chairs. I remember years ago when kids used to jump in the water to swim there, but its pretty dangerous with... This is a great area to go for a walk, bicycle ride or just relax. Grounds and paths are very well kempt. Some of the paths are small gravel and some are asphalt. The falls are very nice to see and there are safe railings around the path area to view the falls. There are lots of trees to walk... More

Relaxing type place. There's not much to do at the falls themselves though. Some people hike down low. The terrain is difficult to navigate if you don't have excellent balance. There's no benches to sit on or anything. I tend to just go for a walk there, enjoy the falls for a few minutes and move on
