We're Canadians, we know what the Governor-General does, and we know quite a lot about the current G-G and his predecessors. This was still interesting. Security was tight, and the bag search was very thorough. Our excellent tour guide went at a good pace. You can see throughout how very many historical and cultural acknowledgements go into a residence like... More

We drove around the Sussex Drive. A very impressive drive with the Governors, Ministers (PM), Embassies etc etc. But the Governor's House was the best and had the view as the British Monarch residence, unquestionably.

The house is surrounded by a beautiful park where it is nice to walk around or do a picnic when it's sunny. The tour of the house is interesting, but only if you know a little bit about the canadian governmental system. The front of the house is currently going under construction so the tour is a little shorter than... More

These well-maintained grounds offer a lovely escape from the city. There is a pleasant welcome and information Centre. The young man working it the afternoon we were there was very helpful and full of facts. For the lover of bagpipes, there is a changing of the guards ceremony accompanied by pipes.

A relaxing, park-like setting near the city centre. Rideau Hall offers plenty of Canadian history, including plaques identifying trees planted by famous people from around the world. A kilted and bearskin-hatted bagpiper comes along once an hour. A tour of the house offers more Canadian history. Note that the main entrance on Sussex Drive is blocked off while renovations take... Went this summer as a visitor and it was nice but without access to a lot of places it is like something is missing. I am not saying is not a nice and worthy visit.

We visited Rideau Hall with 2 seniors. I emailed and made arrangements in advance. I couldn't have been more impressed with the care and consideration given them by staff! Proud to be Canadian!

I recently visited Rideau Hall with family who were over from the UK. I hadn't been before, despite living in Ottawa for a few years now. We did a guided tour which we found to a good length (not too long at 45 minutes) but it didn't show many rooms of the house. But we learnt a lot about the... More

My wife and I visited Rideau Hall on a recent trip to Canada. We enjoyed walking the beautifully kept grounds. The tour itself was very educational--we learned a lot about the role of the Governor General in Canada. We also really enjoyed seeing the house. Our tour guide was excellent, she really connected with our group. I especially enjoyed seeing... More
