The Governor General of Canada is the Queen's representative in Canada so it is only fitting that she appoints her or him to the position. Rideau Hall is the official residence and it's a beautiful house but I love to walk through the extensive, manicured grounds with their greenhouses, rose gardens, numerous trees and expansive green spaces to picnic. There... More

The office of the GG is one of the poorer understood elements of the Canadian Parliamentary system. This is a must see for visitors and those seeking to understand why we escaped mimicking the horrors of the US Civil War. Fantastic Tours, Amazing free Public grounds, The Crown of Canada is tremendously generous with its hospitality, drink it up,... that's... More

The park outside alone is worth a visit. This being said, if you have the time, take one of the guided tours through the house. It's spectacular !

There are trees planted by so many leaders of the world on this property which can be viewed by the public. Just walking from one to the other and thinking of that makes for an interesting walk.

Was there for a tea for palliative care workers....the grounds are magnificent and the house itself, what we could see of it, was also magnificent. Everyone was so cheerful and helpful and very pleasant indeed. It was a very special day for sure.

Many don't realize that there's a palace in Ottawa. Rideau Hall, the home of the Queen (when in Ottawa) and her representative, the governor general, is well worth the time if you're in the area (it's a bit out of the way). There is a self guided tour that allows you to see the official rooms. The ballroom and the... More

While visiting with family from out of the country we decided to visit Rideau hall. However, we were disappointed when they said they were closed that morning. So we just walked around the property/garden area. Can't comment on anything inside.

Incredible place and spaces to learn about Canadian history. It's a living lesson on history and, for those interested in botanic themes, the surrounding gardens seems like heaven. Worth the visit from every point of view.

The grounds are nice, woods and gardens. An oasis in the city. The building itself is a bit odd because it a series of additions upon additions without regard to proper planning or architectural balance. But the ballroom is beautiful. The pace is relaxed and the guide is very knowledgeable and very pleasant. Answers to questions too.

Rideau Hall, the home of the Governor General of Canada (and temporarily of the Prime Minister of Canada on the grounds) is a splendid family visit in Ottawa. In summer the grounds are magnificent and open to the public (think fountains, gardens, trees planted by many celebrities - Princess Diana, Jackie Kennedy and cricket played by teams representing many countries...
