We were very fortunate to be able to do both the Auto Baron's tour as well as the Servants' Life tour in an afternoon. The guides were both excellent, friendly and well-informed. The tours were long enough to be very thorough and so we learned a great deal. We will definitely be back next year to do the other tours. We would also recommend stopping in at the Canadian Automotive Museum nearby to see some McLaughlin cars.

A thoroughly worthwhile tour, Morgan was a wonderful tour guide and very knowledgeable! She allowed us ample time to study each room we visited. Parkwood is full of original period pieces and gave us a first hand glimpse into the McLaughlin life. Don’t forget to visit the cute gift shop. Well worth the price!

Everyone from Great Grandma to your 2 year old will love afternoon tea service at the majestic Parkwood Estate. The Italian Garden is beautiful year after year, and the grounds and manor are spotless and historically transporting! When you're shown the grand paintings...make sure to find out who the little girl is in the picture. She's related to the mansion owner :)

I am curious how many people outside of Oshawa and surrounding areas know about this beauty. To be honest, I had no clue about the Parkwood Estate until my daughter suggested at the end of August to switch from visiting all the parks and conservation areas in GTA we had been focusing on all summer, to exploring some historical buildings. Excellent choice!

Our tour guide Morgan made our visit truly memorable. Her knowledge, engagement, enthusiasm, and a friendly approach encouraged all the members of our small group to ask many questions and discuss interesting details about the life of Samuel McLaughlin, founder of General Motors of Canada, his wife Adelaide and their five daughters.

Morgan’s vivid descriptions of life in this house supported our imagination and made us all feel like part of the history. We learned that the luxurious interiors at Parkwood represent early 20th century design and we admired fine artwork from famous artists, as well as housewares, books, furniture…

I was also impressed by finding out that Parkwood is one of the most popular locations for filming. There is a long list of films that have been shot at this exciting estate, including Murdoch Mysteries, Anne of Green Gables: The Continuing Story, Chicago, X-Men, or Reign. Many famous movie stars, such as Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Adam Sandler, Ben Affleck, Jane Seymour, Richard Gere, Jackie Chan, Peter Fonda, and Richard Gere have been filming at the estate.

The estate is a lovely place, still full of life and when you listen to the interesting stories about those who have been living here, you almost feel like you know this family.

Regrettably, we were able to only see the main floor as the rest of the mansion was not accessible, but the beautiful garden with interesting landscape and full of colorful flowers (at that time) made up for it.

If you are thinking about spending your next weekend at a gorgeous place, don’t look further. Parkwood Estate will do.

I went with my sister and husband 12/19/2020. This was our second time. It was beautifully decorated for Christmas. The ladies in the gift shop were lovely and we could have stayed there all day. We bought so many little Christmas gifts. Our tour was halted when our guide fell ill however another guide stepped immediately without a missed step. She had worked all day and was tired but cheerfully took us around the home. You could so obviously tell she LOVES her job (it’s hard to call it that when you love it like she does). I will go back again and again for other tours and events. I love this place. Thank-you! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!!

Yet another fabulous tour. Friday night with Elizabeth we took the basement tour. We throughly enjoyed learning about the spaces most never see and she made it so much fun. We’ve done the Auto Baron tour, the Christmas tour, Dining Decorum and this one. We’ve already booked for ornament painting in December!!! If you haven’t been you need to go! If you haven’t been in a while, now is the time to go back! Even just to walk around the beautiful grounds, no matter the season. We’ll be back…. Thank-you for a great night!!!!

My husband and I went to Parkwood yesterday. We had booked awhile ago and were really looking forward to it. Parking there is easy free and the decorations for Christmas were lovely. Unfortunately there was a tv shoot going on which impacted negatively on our enjoyment. Cables and equipment all around, main staircase covered in plastic and screaming from the shot.. We couldn’t go into a few rooms such as the kitchen, area etc. We paid full price even though the tour wasn’t complete. Disappointing.
Covid measures were good but if I had know they were filming before we went I would have requested another day. We felt we should have been contacted before hand.

The whole estate is huge and everywhere is beautiful. The Formal Garden is phenomenal. The history about Sam McLaughlin and the history of Canadian automobile industry is also fascinating. Staffs are all kind and informative. Even more surprising, the whole ground part is free to visit.
The internal tour part is a little bit disappointing. We participated the basic Baron tour. The tour itself is decent but it only covers the first floor and the tour dragged a little bit too long. You are gonna pay extra money or book another tour to visit either the second floor or the basement part. So, whichever tour you join, you won’t be able to see the whole house. It’s hard to imagine that a visitor would come back again to join a different tour.
Overall it’s still a place well worth a visit. It is a hidden gem in Oshawa. I wish there is one quick tour to cover all the places inside.

What a treasure in the middle of Oshawa. It is not only a beautiful mansion with wonderful furnishings set on a very large property but there is so much history. Our guide Elizabeth was outstanding when we did the tour of the entertainment area or first floor of the mansion. Although we live out of town we would go back just for a tour of another section of the home or for Christmas at the home. The magnificent gardens are impeccable and unbelievably maintained. No wonder this has been declared a national historic site. Even the cost is more than reasonable. We cannot say enough positive things about the entire experience.

I enjoyed my visit at the Parkwood Estate. I am happy that this grand home is beautifully and lovingly cared for and maintained. Claire, our guide was very good and I thank her for the snippets of information she provided which I may have otherwise missed such as the gifted propeller from a war plane. Wish I could see more of this historic home and so I would have to return for another visit to see the servants' quarters. The gardens were just lovely. I was disappointed that I was not able to see the Italian garden. I would suggest as an improvement - a take away flyer which can also be used for promotional purposes and in which some information on the family and some objects can be highlighted.
