I was booked to travel with Adventure Canada in August of this year but along came Covid-19. The company has been nothing short of amazing in their response to this situation. We can have a full refund if we wish or we can transfer to another expedition next year or in 2022 at the same price as in 2020 and with further incentives included, the cost of a future booking will be less than the origin booking. Cedar has kept us in the loop with timely updates to inform us of their progress in processing everyone's requests. All of the team members that I have interacted with have been friendly, professional and enthusiastic. I am looking forward with excitement to my High Arctic Explorer expedition in August 2022.

We had been on a NatGeo hiking trip to Patagonia and short cruise around Cape Horn so we wanted to go to the far north side of the Americas - this cruise had shore excursions for hiking and natural history/exploration history as a focus which was fantastic. Kayaking for a very few was also a major focus. The expedition team, ships captain and zodiac crew, photographers, and polar bear guards took us (safely) to archaeological/historic sites, on an ice floe, through leads in ice fields, next to glaciers, past hundreds of gigantic and smaller icebergs, past polar bears (and walrus, narwhals) feeding, and into small Inuit communities for refreshingly unjaded demonstrations of Inuit singing, drumming, dancing and hunting craft and foods. Every day there were several excellent presentations by (Canadian) Arctic research academics, authors, filmmakers and world class adventurers used by BBC and others. Plus gatherings for the whole group to recap each day and discuss the frequently adjusting plans for the next day, always weather, ice conditions, and bear safety dependent. The ship and accommodation are not new, we had one of the highest category rooms and it was serviceable. Food resupplies in the far north are difficult for large groups, I felt the chef did a good job transitioning out of some of the fresh vegetables and fruits. This trip is not for people looking for luxury, or who are not physically active though they try to accommodate lower activity levels.

We had heard wonderful things about trips with Adventure Canada and were looking forward to our Greenland/Wild Labrador trip in September. Then, came COVID. Adventure Canada took the high road immediately to protect their northern villages and cancelled the trip proactively with great communication about how we would receive our refund/s. They continued to update that info until all was settled. I would most definitely book with them again when all of this is over!

This was a difficult review to write. It was the Ocean Endeavor’s first cruise since the pandemic, the crew really tried to correct the problems as they were identified and based on comments made from fellow passengers who had traveled with Adventure Canada before, this was not the normal experience. However, as a first-time traveler with Adventure Canada, this is my experience.

For three days, water intermittently came up from the drain in my bathroom covering the floor. The Plumber explained it was an old ship and some areas of the pipe couldn’t handle the volume of water from everyone’s shower. After three days of them trying to fix it and the water turning brownish, I requested and got moved to another room. The new room had a toilet that leaked, but the plumber fixed it the same day. Both Cabin temperatures were consistently over 75 degrees and stuffy. The ceiling vent just didn’t provide enough fresh air. When they tried to fix it, I was told that travelers on the top floors complained it was too cold. With only one cooling system, they had to keep some rooms hotter so that top rooms weren’t cold. The sound system in the rooms and Lounge were not always working correctly. On the plus side, I got to meet my neighbors as we stuck our heads out of our cabins to hear the announcements. The food was very good and I got to try a lot of new items. The first couple of days there were long wait times for the meals to arrive and the food was often cold. They switched to a buffet, which worked better. But because of a few COVID cases. they rightfully switched to the waiters getting the food from the buffet, which resulted in some cold food again and frequent wrong orders. My requested oatmeal/ strawberries or blue berries resulted in oatmeal with melon. My cheese omelet and plain oatmeal resulted in a plain omelet and oatmeal with cheese. Not a big problem, but then not up to average standards either. The lectures were interesting and the zodiac trip fantastic. I would have loved to sit in a sauna, after a being outside, but as far as I know they never worked.

Bottom line, I felt like I was on a shakedown cruise where the performance of the ship and crew were being tested and the problems worked out; however, for what I paid, this should not have been my experience.

Dear Deborah, We appreciate your feedback on your experience on the Ocean Endeavour and thank you for your understanding as we continue to adapt and navigate travel in 2022. I am pleased you enjoyed the Zodiac cruises and lectures from our on-board experts and expedition team members. We recognize the unfortunate disruptions that some of our guests encountered while on board the vessel during our Mighty Saint Lawrence expedition. We want to assure you that all on-board issues and concerns have been addressed and resolved. Nevertheless, I sincerely apologize for the disruption to your expedition experience. Thank you.

I have been hesitating writing a review, but after some time away from the cruise itself I feel like I need to comment.
I was on the Mighty St Lawrence, which was the first sailing since COVID restrictions have been lifted. I honestly felt like this trip was a trial run, which wouldn't be that bad except for the cost I paid. There were few apologies on board, admitting that the food was completely sub-par, and not in anyway what would be expected on a cruise of this class. The fact that almost every meal was a buffet was a huge disappointment, as was the lack of food choices outside of (restricted) dining hours. Some days lunch would be served at 11 and then we wouldn't eat dinner until after 7...you need to provide real food to guests outside of set dining times.
The excursions were another disappointment. I was expecting plenty of zodiac cruising, but in fact the zodiacs were pretty much used for tendering us on and off the ship. For example, the day spend in Saguenay we were shuttled around the area on school buses (for hour long rides), instead of just letting us do zodiac cruising, in an area that is world famous for whale watching.
We had to attend the mandatory daily briefings in person (even though there were COVID cases on board) and even though there was a functional AV system, that had capacity to transmit these briefings to our cabin tvs. It wasn't until the last few days that the IT team had figured out how to do this properly.
The positives of this cruise were the beauty of the locations that we did go to. I feel lucky to see parts of Canada that I never imagined even existed before. The Adventure Canada staff were all amazing, and I feel like they really felt bad how things were playing out.
I get that there were kinks to be ironed out on this inaugural sailing, what I find odd, is that we received no formal apology, in person or after disembarkation, for how sub-par this cruise was. I was lucky to receive a discounted fare for this sailing (although still a very significant amount of money) but I cannot imagine that some of the cruisers spent tens of thousands of dollars for this sailing. I spoke to many unhappy cruise-mates who were equally (if not more) disappointed than I was. Any other cruise line would have been embarrassed, and offered some type of future sailing discount. Honestly, some of the future itineraries interested me when I got on board, but sadly I have no interest in ever going on another Adventure Canada cruise again.

Dear Lenadee, Thank you for your candid feedback. With all sincerity, I apologize for your on board experience. I am pleased to hear the Adventure Canada expedition team was amazing and that you were able to enjoy the unique beauty of Atlantic Canada that was showcased through this expedition. Returning to operations after two years, despite full preparedness, unforeseen challenges did impact on board service experiences. I am pleased to inform you that we have addressed all the on board issues, and we will be in touch with you to address your concerns. Thank you.

We had the pleasure of travelling with Adventure Canada on their Newfoundland Circumnavigation trip this month. It was absolutely great. Exceeded all of our expectations! The expedition experts on board taught us so much (with lots of laughs) and they were all musicians as welll! After busy days exploring Gros Morne park, L'Anse aux Meadows, St. Pierre & Miquelon, Francois, cruising the fjords at Lahune Bay and the Miawpukek pow-wow at Conne River, we could expect a spontaneous 'Kitchen Party' to break out in the lounge!! We also enjoyed scrumptious meals including seafood from the 'Taste of Place' program... lobster brunch for instance! We will definitely go back to both Newfoundland AND another Adventure Canada trip.

I went on the Out of the Northwest Passage and Wild Labrador: A Torngat Mountains Adventure in Sep 2023. Both were outstanding trips. The expedition team was excellent. Both expedition leaders were experienced and worked hard to get everywhere listed on the itinerary. As with any travel expedition (this was not a typical cruise with definite stops), weather can cause a change in plans. We had a few days where we could not land where planned (due to wind, rough seas, sea ice), but the leaders always had back-up plans that were great. There were numerous experts on board (geology, birds, animals, archeology, environment, culture, etc) who gave talks on the ship as well as on the land/zodiacs. Even a former prime minister of Greenland was on board for a few days and talked to the group. The educational program is the best I've had on this type of trip (or any trip). The rest of the expedition team were friendly and helpful. The ship is older but in good shape. Food was very good and the variety included meat, fish, and vegetarian/vegan options at all meals. The small gym was good for a strength training work out or cardio on a bike or rowing machine.

Arctic Canada, western Greenland, and Labrador are all amazing places. Fall colors were in full force in the tundra that was present for the entire trip except for the last 3 days when we got back into trees. We saw many animals- polar bears, walruses, seals, whales, many types of birds, foxes.

Adventure Canada is a Canadian family owned company and it shows in a good way. The expedition team worked very well together and they really enjoyed working together. The team was receptive to passenger requests/suggestions and actively solicited suggestions. All of the owners (and their families) were on the second trip and they were accessible, friendly, and helpful. Most of the passengers were seasoned travelers. Many of the passengers had traveled with Adventure Canada before and with the quality of these trips, I can see why. I'm already planning to travel with them again in 2025. I wholeheartedly recommend Adventure Canada.

We completed the Out of the North West Passage in September 2023, our first Adventure Canada trip. It was a wonderous experience that was full of wildlife, Inuit culture, mega icebergs, immersive history, amazing landscapes and a whole lot of fun. The expedition team along with the ship's captain managed, through ever changing weather and challenging ice conditions, to craft and execute an exciting and often surprising itinerary that was always safe. This trip is not a luxury cruise, although the ship, amenities and food are above average and the service is impeccable. This is an expedition to a remote, beautiful and special place that filled us with awe and wonder. We will take another AC trip in the future.

My Arctic cruise booked for August-September was cancelled because of some pesky virus. Adventure Canada has been great about keeping me in the loop as the situation became clearer and in offering prompt refunds or transfers to future cruises. Great service in trying times.

We took the Atlantic Explorer expedition from June 23 to July 4.

This isn’t a review of the many memorable and life changing experiences of my trip. Rather, it’s just some takeaways and observations about the trip in general.

Pricing: If money is a concern, consider getting a room with no portal/window. My wife and I were barely in our room, so we appreciated saving more than a few dollars.

Food: I know they’ve had to pivot based on health concerns, but the past complaints/lessons learned seemed to have been sorted on our cruise. I just had to learn to eat from the buffet in moderation.

The ship: It’s old. It’s not a luxurious or modern ship but it does the job. We had two problems with our room that were addressed quickly and adequately.

The experience: There was always something going on. There were plenty of talks when shore excursions weren’t available. Note: No added costs for excursions (except for Kayaking, and possibly cycling).

The wake up call: I can’t comment on all of their expedition leaders, but Jason had the best wake up calls. I was up before most of the calls because there was so much to do on this trip.

The staff: Adventure Canada had over 10 guides pretty much active all day and into the evening. Finding somebody was never hard, and they truly cared about our well being and enjoyment on the trip.

Disembarkation at the end: It was much slower than I thought it would be, and we also arrived late due to a problem with the ship the previous night. You need to plan in some leeway in your return flight (and that’s just common sense really).

On the whole, a part of me wished I could have seen more. This expedition went to places that I might not ever see again. I wished I could’ve stayed in some places (like Sable Island, the Cabot Trail, St Pierre to name a few) and happily wasted my time there. But you know, wishing you had more can be a great thing if you think about it.
