As I sit here eating my sandwich at home... Be warned that this is no longer your festival. There are 3 bouncy castles and a pony ride for your kids and a limited set of food options- nowhere near last year. Also at 1pm on July 1 there were no available soda or water available for purchase as the festval wasn't prepared to give it to the vendors... They aren't just allowed to sell any old water or pop to you...

Gage Park is very old and is a welcome sight in that area of town. Here for the 99th year is the Mum show in the new building. This building is much nicer than the old one and as usual the Mum Show is fun. Every year it's a different theme. This year the theme is bugs. This is a small venue. It doesn't take more than an hour to go through but they have a few vendors, demonstrations,
activities for kids and a little snack bar. Go earlier than later as it gets busier as the day goes on. This is an annual event for me. I look forward to it every year. Free parking and the lot is almost at the entrance. Very reasonable entry fees.

If you have the winter blahs? This is the place to go. It is a free show. Beautiful tropical plants, fish, turtles & a gorgeous waterfall. Did I mention parrots & lots & lots of spring flowers. :-)
It was the next best thing to being on a tropical island.

Spring Tide is a free annual event held in the Gage Park Greenhouses. This year's show runs to March 22. The greenhouses are decorated with thousands of bulbs showcasing all kinds of tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, pansies and other flowers to go with the permanent plants. This year's theme is the Pan Am Games. As a bonus Terra is providing the children with a small marigold seedling to plant.

The permanent greenhouse residents include fish and turtles in the ponds and a couple of parrots from the Aviary. You can see a banana tree with fruit.

There is plenty of free parking.

Great, free water area for the kids. Beautiful band stand, classic and so rare these days. Close to McDonalds for affordable snacks for the kids if you stay long or if there are events, you can buy food from vendors there. Free parking unless there's an event. Mature trees which are getting rarer and rarer sadly. Fountain is lovely. What a gem Lady Gage gifted us.

Most recently, we visited the greenhouses to see the Spring Tide Bulb Show, beautifully presented - referenced to the upcoming Pan Am Games this summer. A march thrill is walking among the colours and fragrances that herald spring

This is a beautiful well-treed park in the core of Hamilton. Great for bike riding, playing sports, picnicking or letting the kids play at the splash pad or playground. A special bonus all year round is the Greenhouse where you can view tropical plants, parrots, turtles and spot the fish in the pond. A lovely relaxing place to hang out.

Gage Park is a wonderful spot with all of the mature trees, children's playground and splash pad and the lovely greenhouse. We go often and enjoy visiting the turtles and looking at the unique greenery.

This park is a must see for a picnic, a long walk, or one of many festivals that take place in this amazing city. The stone fountains and greenhouses were part of my childhood, and are now a place I love to take my own family. The smell of chrysanthemums always takes me back to the mum show, and the festival of friends is always a great time. Picnics under shady trees, fun in the waterpark, a visit to the children's museum, and afternoons at the pride festival are only a handful of reasons to visit this beautiful greenspace. A must do.

Take some time to soak up some natural light and enjoy the beautiful new building, being filled with fantastic and interesting plants. A lovely place to wander. Water features with fish and turtles. Very interesting plantings. Gorgeous natural light everywhere. Looking forward to returning in a month to see all the changes in plant sizes, flowering. Appeared that outdoor areas will be landscaped in the near future. Free admission! I do believe they take food bank donations, which is a great idea. Lots of people working who looked like they were loving their jobs. And take a walk through Gage Park, which, on this first day of spring, is just starting to 'come back to life'!
