I was delighted by this large, bright museum interior inside a heritage building. The exhibitions were varied and included contemporary and modern examples of art and sculpture, as well as some applied art objects from the collection.

Now called The Art Gallery of Guelph, it sports a smallish but wonderful exhibit of local and international art, plus a large, permanent, outdoor modern art exhibit in the garden. Located at the University of Guelph, on Gordon St. Native Canadian collection is world-renowned. Gallery collection is actually too large for the building, so they rotate exhibits, as well as... The building was closed but we were able to tour the sculpture garden. Very good for art lovers of all ages. Look for the dog hidden in the bushes. Some of the art left me scratching my head, some left me bemused and some was just nice to appreciate.

Who would expect such a wonderful art gallery? I attended a recent opening by invitation; rarely have I seen so many interested patrons, talking art in a gallery. The food and wine were among the best ever seen at such an event; the University's president spoke eloquently, and not too long. Good parking and general accessibility. I am glad I... More

Recently renovated and made fully accessible, the little-known gallery is a jewel of Guelph. There are new exhibitions frequently, and a permanent collection which contains fine works by the Group of Seven, and other Canadian artists. Many outrdoor exhibits also.

Excellent permanent collection and a continual rotation of new and upcoming artists. Watch for their presentations. They also provide a great venue for new relatively unknown artists. The gift shop has a tremendous selection of works by local artisans - good spot to get those spring wedding gifts

Though I arrived too late in the day to see the gallery itself I thoroughly enjoyed the surrounding sculpture park. There are about 40 works on the grounds and all are quite interesting to see. Highly recommend stopping in and checking them out if you are visiting the area. I will definitely have to return for a chance to see... More

The Macdonald Stewart Art Centre is part of the University of Guelph and houses the art collection for the university, plus touring exhibits. Its collection of Inuit and northern Canada art is quite good and a bit of a surprise for a small city such as Guelph. Overall the experience at the gallery is wortwhile for visitors and residents alike.
