Although I no longer live in Barrie, I still see the Sprit Catcher as the main symbol of Barrie. When I moved back north after retirement, I bought 4 replicas of it, one for myself and one for each of my daughters so that we could remember the city in which they were raised. It is unique to Barrie and... More

The Barrie waterfront has a lot going for it including clean water, lovely beaches, parks and walkways. There are also a few focal points for the waterfront including the Rotary fountain and the Spirit Catcher. This huge sculpture actually moves with the wind so it can be a bit disconcerting to be right below it, but from a few steps... More

This is a local feature for us , that we enjoy regularly as we walk the waterfront on a regular basis. We go in all seasons, and the Spirit Catcher stands strong and proud in spring, summer, fall and winter . A truly unique feature of our developing waterfront . It holds a mystical energy that is somewhat magnetic and... More

This beautiful statue really stands out on the waterfront, and is a must-see if you're exploring Barrie. The sculptor, Ron Baird, has another statue going up nearby by called Sea Serpent. You can park here (if you can find a spot) and take it in, or you can park elsewhere on the waterfront, but it's a longer walk then. It's... More

The Spirit Catcher is an amazing piece of sculpture that has become a centerpiece of downtown Barrie. It looks beautiful from a distance but really comes to life as you approach and realize that the feathers are not rigid but free floating. A great art piece for a great waterfront park.

The Barrie waterfront spirit catcher is a cool art installation. The swinging "feathers" scared my daughter when she was little because they sway lightly (as designed) and reminded her of giant, swinging knives. Its a fun spot to stop for a picnic when it's not too busy. Can be hard to get a good picture sometimes due to the number... More
