- GeorgeLisburn, United Kingdom20 contributionsA great way to spend the morning!A sunny day with blue skies and very pleasant company as I walked along the waterfront! Plenty to see, lots of information points, multiple places to sit and soak up the atmosphere. Add in the benefit of some very well stocked establishments offering such delights as freshly baked rum cake and hay ho a very delightful morning!!Visited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 17, 2023
- TennisStar602New Jersey712 contributionsI took several long walks along this passageway. The Halifax Riverfront Boardwalk was a great Promenade in order to view the waterfront. There were nice images of Dartmouth and of the surrounding islands. I also got to look up to the downtown areas of Halifax. This walkway had many gift shops, restaurants, bars, and other businesses. Some apartments were located just off of this area. There were also a few museums located alongside this pedestrian avenue. There were some artistic displays alongside this walkway, and I felt perfectly safe taking my stroll. I would just advise people to bundle up as it can get quite chilly.Visited November 2023Traveled soloWritten November 22, 2023
- 474 MicheyKamloops, Canada144 contributionsBeautiful views and a nice walkThis is one of the best boardwalks we have seen travelling. There are some great restaurants and shops along here but watch out for the birds that are always around looking for a free meal. Hard to find an outdoor eating spot not covered in bird goo. We saw multiple cruise ships in port and it was an easy walk to get back to the ship.Visited August 2023Traveled with familyWritten March 10, 2024
- m sEaston, Maryland89 contributionsGreat Marriott to spend birthday week! Felt like someone important. The staff were fantastic and attentive. Location was also nice. Boardwalk out front and sky corridors to the casino and to a food court. Within walking distance of all historic sites. Thanks Jenn for watching out for my food allergies! You were great!Visited June 2024Traveled with friendsWritten June 13, 2024

There is a wide variety of food vendors ,restaurant and shops along the waterfront that will satisfy your taste buds as well as your interest in Canadian history. Halifax is full of history and places of interest. Come to one of Canada's original starting points as a country. Halifax is a unique blend of old and new architecture. - Trail72548310 contributionsFun for the whole familyWe strolled the harbor after first arriving in Halifax. Lots of parking, food options and shops. My children particularly enjoyed the playground and giant wave. It was not as picturesque as I was expecting but still a great way to spend some time.Visited June 2024Traveled with familyWritten June 26, 2024
- Lee-Ann LOrangeville, Canada25 contributionsWorth a visitA must see when in Halifax. I had high expectations as it is talked of very highly but felt it wasn’t as amazing as everyone says. Definitely a nice place to visit to walk around, shop and grab some snacks. There did look to be some amazing restaurants on the boardwalk. There are public bathrooms scattered along the board walk that are in good shape. There is parking near the waterfront but we ended up parking further away.Visited July 2024Traveled with familyWritten July 6, 2024
- MrBazOntario, Canada61 contributionsPlenty to see and doCome early to avoid crowds and enjoy a more leisurely walk. Boardwalk is filled with nice shops, art installations and entertainment. Stop by museums to take in some AC on a hot day. We’d been here before the major renovation project and its completed work was well worth it.Visited July 2024Traveled with familyWritten July 12, 2024

- mdutkin55 contributionsHalifax WaterfrontIt's a happening place! Halifax is a quaint town....lots of people on the boardwalk. So cute that you'll find groups of couples dancing, or walking with their dogs. The views are spectacular...boats, canoeing, cruise ships. Lots of families. Many restaurants to choose from. Not many stores...can use more of them, but, quite cute.Visited September 2024Traveled with familyWritten September 16, 2024

During our “10-Day Canada and New England” cruise aboard Caribbean Princess ship last October, we had a chance to walk along a section of Halifax Waterfront Boardwalk. Upon leaving the ship for a shore visit, we went through the infamous Pier 21 which had been the gateway to Canada for over a million immigrants from 1928 to 1971. After exiting Pier 21, we turned to right, and walked straight ahead with the Pier 21 building and subsequent buildings to our right. After passing Halifax Seaport Farmer's Market building on the right, we entered a pleasant section of Halifax Waterfront Boardwalk. We enjoyed the scenic views of the sea and the pretty red lighthouse on the small island on the right side. We also enjoyed viewing a number of monuments and restaurants/cafes along the way. We left the boardwalk to explore the downtown area to the left. After spending sometime in the downtown area, we returned to the boardwalk, and walked along the boardwalk back to Pier 21. Upon entering Pier 21, we went through the hall to our right with many souvenir shops. Many shops had delightful souvenirs. After spending some time at the shops, we followed the sign to board our ship. Walking along the waterfront boardwalk is highly recommended to anyone visiting Halifax.

Filthy, borning, closes early or not opened at all most year. Saturday 23rd June closes at 8.30pm. Few ice cream, fish n chips pouting shoes, a couple of dessert places, a couple ofpubs. Food is expensive grossly unhealthy, fried and no taste. Side walks filthy, bins overflowing, nothing to do really just walk. No souvenirs shops, street performers, etc. Sad really.

The boardwalk, depending on the time of day, can be a very busy place. This time of year most of the kiosks are closed. But that does not mean you can't still enjoy it. There is plenty of space, the kids play area is open. You can sit and watch the ferries as well as container ships, naval vessels, coast guard, on weekends in the summer, there are always boats on the go. There are hammocks on the waterfront, a great way to spend some time. There is always something to see. My favorite time is early morning, when the sun is coming up. It is peaceful, and the sun coming up, makes everything better.

When the time comes, the entire population gathers to stroll along the waterfront, enjoying ice cream or offering a restaurant at the somewhat prohibitive Awards. The walk is fun between souvenir shops and exhibition. The country does not forget its heroes to its center.

Walking slowly along the waterfront boardwalk was very enjoyable. We stopped and sat on the benches, enjoyed the views, watched people fishing, sailboats , boats, sea doos ..we also found interesting the few statues around and read all the info. To finish our walk, we found many restaurants and bars to choose from.

There's a reason the Halifax Waterfront is one of the top tourist attractions in Nova Scotia. There's something to see every step: from restaurants, playgrounds, museums, shopping, art installations, and the busy harbor traffic (including humungous cargo ships coming in every so often). We loved it!

Halifax has lost most of its ‘old town’ but a walk along the harbour with a its explanatory signs was a pleasant way to get a feel for and some of the history of the city. Halifax itself does not have that much to offer except the citadel and the Immigration museum. So, if in Halifax, walk the length of the boardwalk and take time out to speak to the locals. Their advice is to NOT be there when the cruise ships are in

Halifax is a very modern and pleasant city, with lots of restaurants and interesting monuments and buildings well worth seeing, however, the Boardwalk is one of the best places to enjoy. Between the glass-covered modern edifices, terraces, and the water, visitors can relax and leisurely walk from the Ferry Terminal to the Emigrant Statue, at minimum, in less than thirty minutes at a normal pace. We found this segment the most interesting as it parallels the downtown area, the Boardwalk continuing though in both directions, in a quieter and more picturesque zone.

Wrapping around the harbour the harbour front boardwalk is a lovely walk at the foot of the city. It runs from the cruise terminal west to the casino where you can then walk back through the downtown streets. It is so nice to see cities like Halifax reclaiming their harbours for everyone to enjoy.

can I pay for purchases with USD, or do I need to have a stash of CAD handy? Do folks take credit cards?
Written October 19, 2017
Just use your credit card. The major ones are accepted everywhere. Visa, Mastercard and Amex for sure. All local prices are in CAD but you will be billed in USD which would be in your favor. The exchange rates given by credit card companies are normally better than banks and exchange companies. Use your card.
