About
In 1820, Alexander Keith established his brewery in the heart of Halifax. Now, over 200 years later, we’re proud to welcome you back into our home on Lower Water Street, the Alexander Keith’s Nova Scotia Brewery. We invite you to come and visit us at our beautifully restored and renovated brewery, and to try our exciting new beers crafted by our brewmaster. Cheers to all things raised in Nova Scotia.

    Love the Samples!
This is the only brewery tour that starts you with a sample, gives samples as you go through various sections of the brewery and then ends up with more samples and musical entertainment at the end of the tour. They have it down to a 'T' and get everything done within the hour. Easy location to find, very historical building and a remarkable background of the founder of the brewery. Parking is right across the street. Tour guides were very knowledgeable and easy going. You need to do this tour!

Charming guides and plenty of beer to sample
There’s not a huge amount to physically see, but the young and enthusiastic guides more than make up for it. They put an enormous amount of effort into the experience and brought the story to life. My advice would be to eat before the tour, as they’re generous with the samples. It’s the first tour of that nature, where I’ve felt I really had the opportunity to sample what is produced in pleasant surroundings (I won’t spoil the surprise), rather than a thimble full of liquid, and then thrown out into the gift shop to buy the gin, whisky, beer whatever it is.

This is a TRUE story, I swear.
Hello there, In the summer of 1960 or 61, I went to Darthmouth, working as a sailor on an Irving tanker. In the evening we went across to Halifax to see the town. Actually we ended up in a bootlegger joint probably cause we were too young or there were no place selling beer. This was a private home where we sat around the kitchen table qnd the woman of the house served us some beer..... don't ask me what kind..... and we all got drunk. I was remembering this anecdote while drinking a good cold Alexander Keith this afternoon while watching TV. I thought perhaps my story would bring a smie to your face. Are there still boothleggers in Nova Scotia? I suppose not. Hope you have a good week, Vincent Lapierre

Most fun we’ve had in a long time!
From the moment we got our tickets the staff was friendly and welcoming, once the tour started everyone involved was informative and fun. The music at the end added to the overall experience. We throughly enjoyed every minute of the tour and especially the beer.

    Beer and music
Maybe not the best beer in Nova Scotia but a fun tour not to miss. The guide will quickly go through the brewery giving a bit of history but the main entertainment is down in the pub where you can sample beers and listen to songs. The singers/musicians were really good. Fantastic atmosphere.

We liked it, liked it a lot!
My husband, sister and I did the tour as this was my husband's first trip to Halifax. We had a fabulous time learning about the history of Alexander Keith and tasting his delicious brews. The staff were friendky, knowledgeable, up beat and the Ceilidh at the end was a great touch. Would definitely recommend for a nice evening in the city. Lots of nice oubs nearby to extend your evening out.

    Get your tickets early -- a must-do
We thoroughly enjoyed our tour! Interesting historical facts about the Keith family. Atmosphere is festive and funny while relaying history. Different tour guides throughout created variety and interest. The final stop of the tour in the basement pub was awesome! Celtic music and beer samples! The tour guides were musicians who provided several Celtic melodies. Throughout the tour, we were able to sample at least 4 types of 5 ounces of different Keith beers. They even had refreshments for kids/non-drinkers. Great way to try a new flavour! We had a great time! Just remember to book your tickets either online or early. They were sold out several days in a row.

    Fun Tour! Must do!
My husband and I had a wonderful time on this tour visiting from the States! We have been on many brewery tours, and this one mixed fun, performative elements with the brewery's history and beer-making process. The samples were generous, and the music was authentic. The ticket also allowed us to get a free taster at a nearby pub.

    History lesson with beer!
Our cruise director suggested this tour for a fun thing to do while we were in port so I booked it. It seemed pricey but 30 oz of this great beer and fine entertainment made it a bargain. We also cashed in on the free 4 oz pour while we enjoyed a delicious lobster roll at Brown Dog on the way back to the ship. A fun way to spend free time in Halifax!

The tour guides were very friendly and knowledgeable. The ceilidh was fun. Beautiful building with lots of history. Only negative, they allow small children on the tours; the children lacked interest and were somewhat disruptive and took away from the experience. I would have given the tour a 5 star if it wasn’t for the children attending.

Mr. Alexander Keith created his brewery two centuries ago on Lower Water Street next to the docks—for good reason: Sea-weary sailors hopped ashore for a glass of hops☺ There is wonderful craft brews and brewery tours. The building is part of a complex that includes a weekend farmers market. Stop in to sample the craft brews and learn about the history of the building and craft brewing. The tours are, however, rather expensive, which reduced my rating.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our tour. Excellent value for the price of a ticket (lots of sampling and great portions). We enjoyed every aspect of the tour and were delighted it ended with an authentic musical experience.

This tour not only shows the history of the brewery but gives tourists a peek into real Maritime hospitality. Highly recommend!

We stumbled upon this Halifax attraction quite by accident and so glad we did. Not only an interesting tour of the brewery but an additional visit to their 'underground' pub for tasting their wares and singing allong to some Ceildh music. Thoroughly recommended. Trip takes over an hour.

Our hosts were incredibly invested in the culture of Alexander Keith's legacy.
The enthusiasm of the team providing the tour was the greatest you could imagine. Truly wonderful ambassadors for the Brewery.
The entertainment by our three hosts in the Keg room was a memorable experience. All of the guests (which I was one) were actively engaged in social fun and merriment celebrating as Alex Keith would have wanted.
We will return again, with friends, to share a visit in the history of this great family brewery.

I'll be honest; I was a bit disappointed with this. I had heard that the drinking section in the bar at the end was the highlight with staff getting everyone involved, singing, dancing but it didn't really happen. There was some music and singing but they seemed more interested in talking to each other and getting us out on time. It was as interesting as brewery tours are but it's obviously smaller and the local history was the highlight. I wouldn't likely go back again and I found the tickets kind of expensive for how quickly the whole thing took.

I was disappointed that when we visited the brewery, that we were not allowed to purchase the beers on tap as we had not signed up for the tour. I would have thought with the brewery in the building, we would have been able to try and purchase a beer or two. Our mistake. Instead we were referred to a brew pub/restaurant in the plaza located near the brewery. Nice outdoor seating, but only had two types of Alexander Keith's brew that they served. Needless to say, our excitement of trying a beer from one of North America's oldest brewery was a disappointment. The hostess at the brewery was apologetic, but was not her fault.
