Quiet small place
Dec 2019 • Family
Buildings and neighborhoods are pretty. We come in winter so there aren’t many people. It’s very small so you can finish walking here very soon.

A must see in Halifax!
May 2019
A beautiful historic area at the harbourfront. Its buildings are antique-type and beautiful. Has lots of options for souvenirs and gifts and surrounded by restaurants of all kinds; from junk food to fancy restaurants. Yet, I didn't like that they close very early in the evening at 6:00, so one can't visit after having a nighttime walk by the harbourfront.

An Area Steeped in History
Oct 2019
It is great to walk around this historic area seeing the many restaurants and shops but what made it especially nice was many of the building entrances were decked out with Halloween themes.

Beautiful old buildings, parking is a challenge.
Oct 2019
If visiting by car, parking is a challenge. The buildings are beautiful and absolutely worth seeing. They are decorated for the fall and offer lovely photo opportunities. Shopping mall inside, along with a nice coffee shop.

Some interesting souvenirs
Sep 2019
We were actually looking for somewhere for a quick drink before going back on our cruise ship (Salty's did the trick), but had a mooch in the shops here which sold some interesting souvenirs.

Historic is the word... many buildings from yesteryear have been transformed into boutiques, shops and restaurants. Lots of Boardwalk to enjoy along with the floating boardwalk on the Harbour. A must see if in Halifax and allow 2 hours at least to stroll and emjoy.

If you love history you'll love the historic properties!
Sep 2019
Authentic, historic buildings which are at least 200 years old or more are impeccably kept and attractive. Housing speciality shops and restaurants they give you a taste of old Halifax. A must see!

Also known as Privateers Wharf
Sep 2019
Privateer or pirate, statesman or outlaw ... depends on what side of the ship you are on. During the War of 1812, about 35 privateers captured more than 200 American merchant vessels and ended up selling their "booty" at auctions. Often, the goods or ships would be bought by the very same parties that had been plundered.

One such privateer was Enos Collins who (among other feats and accomplishments) defied Napoleon's blockade; he was a smuggler, privateer, and shipper. Other privateers included John Sherbrooke (visit Montreal, see his name on one of the longest and best known "Rues" in the entire city) but others bore more colorful handles like: fly, weasel, and saucy jack. At some point, wealth trumps all. They became respectable members of the community. Does everyone love a rascal?

The "Historic Properties" area encompasses 3 blocks of 1700's -180's era warehouses, buildings, and facades that are Victorian-Italianate in their architectural style. Ten of the oldest buildings in Halifax are located here, on the harbor boardwalk.
