On the day I arrived, I found the lake and surrounding walking pathways utilized by many people. Some were rowing on the lake, others were relaxing with their families at the lake's edge. The setting is very natural with tons of trees surrounding the lake. I did not see one piece of trash anywhere. I can tell that the locals take pride in this lake and treat it with respect. Truly a green oasis within the city. This is a lovely place to come (I'd think) any time of the year.

Lake Banook is a jewel in the centre of Dartmouth. While this city has numerous lakes, around which the streets twist and turn, Banook injects itself through residential areas to the downtown business area. The result is that when national and international aquatic events are held there, it is impossible to be unaware that important things are taking place. This lake is devoted to such events - no powered pleasure craft are permitted. A ferry trip of 15 minutes from the Halifax side of the harbour leaves you a 15 minute walk up Ochterloney Street, past Sullivan's pond to the canoe club end of the lake. A walk worth every step.

We love Lake Banook - it is an amazing, world-class paddling venue. Home to 3 canoe clubs, this beautiful lake hosts year round activity including swimming, paddling, and skating, as well as walking/ running trails around the perimeter - and a lakeside coffee shop, salon, and health clinic - there is always activity on and around Lake Banook. We spend a lot of time here during all seasons - but especially in the summer!

In the summer time Lake Banook is a world class paddling venue. It hosted the Pan American Championships this year and previously hosted Canadian Nationals and World Championships. There are three paddling clubs right at one end of the lake.

We went on a hot day when the lake was in full use by the community with sandy beaches, swimming, kayaking and much more.

This is a large body of water in the middle of the city. In the summer you have a chance of using canoes or kayaks. There’s a bunch of rowing clubs on the shores. It’s a great place to spend the day if you like being on the water.
