Although we had visited Annapolis Royal on several previous occasions we had not stopped in to tour the impressive gardens until now. After walking around the Saturday farmer's market in the heart of town, then visiting a boatbuilder on the waterfront the Historic Gardens were the perfect finish to a delightful day: peaceful, serene, beautiful and humming with other small... My wife has wanted to visit the gardens for years but we haven't been to Annapolis Royal for a long time. We spent close to three hours this visit. We walked pretty much every meter of every trail and visited almost every building on site. It was a blue sky bright sunny day but the gardens provides ample shade to... More

There were several gardens that were spectacular at this time. The Rose Garden, the Victorian, and I believe the Knot garden were all superb. We walked thru the Pine Forest, along by the 3 ponds. All are lovely. This was the "paint the town weekend" so artists were set up in numerous places painting what they saw. With the piano... More

This garden is extraordinarily beautiful. It has a number of different sections, each with its own style and type of flora. There are ponds and little waterfalls and places to sit and just enjoy the surroundings. Fantastic photo ops. There is even a great cottage that is a replica of a very early Acadian settler.

My cousin Anne is an avid gardener and we spent a couple of hours visiting these quite wonderful and varied gardens. I am a bit of a slug and enjoyed the variety and finding so many places to sit in most of the areas. There was a Victorian garden and several ponds and a small gift store too.

Toured the grounds in the evening. Very nice. Beautiful displays of flowers and plants. Enjoyed the vegetable display garden. Worth going to see.

This is a beautiful garden, organized into small gardens to reflect different historical periods such as Victorian, Acadian, and the parallel rise of the knot garden in two countries. Additional gardens reflect topics such as a rock gardens, rose gardens, and an innovative garden. We spent about an hour for Can$25.00 for two with a AAA discount. I would've given... More

Alas, the rain cut short our visit, but I loved the rich diversity in these gardens and the different types of plantings. Very peaceful and beautiful place for a walk. I especially enjoyed the Acadian House and learning about some of the plants I was not familiar with since I live in a much different climate.

The garden are very beautiful. I wish I brought a picnic lunch to enjoy them more. Excellent stroll. I enjoyed finding out about the Acadian house and walking the dykes.

They are comparing apples to oranges when comparing the Annapolis Royal Historic Gardens to the Halifax Public Gardens. Yes, they are both "gardens" but for different reasons. And.......they are BOTH equally nice and worth a visit considering the differences in what they offer. Halifax is open to the public, has very lovely plants and flowers, and is designed for people... Thank you for the lovely comments. You are right, the Halifax Public Gardens is very different from the Annapolis Royal Historic Gardens, in design, purpose and also in operational structure. The Annapolis gardens are owned and operated by a not-for-profit and are sustained primarily through admission fees and fundraising. The Halifax gardens are owned and maintained by the city, and...
