Committed to providing you with an authentic experience, we offer a total immersion in the culture - Newfoundland and Labrador style. Our guides grew up in the province and are the best source for information on the culture, history, music and language that make this area so unique. They know off the beaten path locations where our groups see the spectacular scenery and wildlife of Newfoundland. Your local guide will provide you with an authentic Newfoundland experience that will be both educational and thoroughly enjoyable

If you want the "best kind" tours of St. John's and the Avalon Peninsula, just book all of them with McCarthy's Party, and you won't be disappointed!
Booking & communication when we had to reschedule a tour was excellent and their prices are a bargain for the quality of their buses and with how much history, geography and geology you'll learn from their top notch guides.
We did 4 tours and had the pleasure of having Mike & Larry as our guides and you won't find two finer gentlemen to share their love and pride of Newfoundland & Labrador as they use their great humour and personal experiences growing up on the Rock to bring the history and culture of this wonderful island to life on the tour.
All 4 tours were outstanding, but the highlight was the Red Shed party in Robert's Bay on the Excursion Around the Bay with great music to warm your soul and warm toutons to fill your belly. My wife even danced a jig and played the ugly stick with them, we were having so much fun!

We had an amazing time being shown the sites of St. John's with Ellis as our guide. We did the 3-hour tour which included Quidi Vidi, Signal Hill, Cape Spear, Petty Harbour, etc. It was a great way to see the city in a limited amount of time there and I'd highly recommend this tour to others visiting St. John's.

Three couples traveling together - all seniors. Just finished two of the day tours - full day Irish Loop on Sat & 1/2 day St John's & Cape Spear on Sunday. We enjoyed both days immensely with Steve on Saturday & Ellis on Sunday. They were knowledgeable, well informed & entertaining with many stories & local anecdotes. Would highly recommend this company.

We were overwhelmed with joy to be able to find a tour that completely met our needs during this reintroduction to St Johns after lockdowns. We were also fortunate to be hosted by an interesting and interested host, Steve Watson. Regaling us with hilarious and informative antidotes, he brought us to many vantage points only a local would know. Everywhere we went someone would recognize him and we would usually get a local conversation going, adding to the local feel of the tour. A tour to Cape Spear, Signal hill and Quidi Vidi was relaxed and a well spent 3-4 hours. The vehicle was new and comfortable. A warm jacket was needed even in July as the weather changed from moment to moment. Pick up and drop off at our hotel was prompt. Covid hygiene was well respected. Don't hesitate to ask Steve for restaurant recommendations as his culinary background is a story in itself.
We loved the tour and quickly saw that Newfoundlands greatest assets are the people themselves. And fish....

We had a magical five days on the Avalon Peninsula around St. John’s with Larry Hann, a fiercely proud Newfoundlander. Larry shared his vast knowledge and experience with humour and great stories, and those of us who were with Larry for the entire time considered ourselves very lucky. His kindness created a gentle, easy-going feeling among the visitors, bringing us all closer as if we were true Newfoundlanders. What an amazing province, full of rugged coastline and wonderful people. Many of us declared our intentions to return, and Larry Hann is certainly a big reason for this!

This tour was interesting and informative and we learned a great deal of Newfoundland’s history and culture. Our guide created a positive culture by allowing questions and conversation by participating guests, but at no time allowing any domination by any one person. This made the trip very comfortable.

This month, I took two tours with McCarthy's, the Historic St John's and Cape Spear and the Outports and Lucky Rocks tours. I found the drivers (Gord and Mike) to be friendly, helpful and accommodating. Both were knowledgeable, giving a lot of background. They both joked and made the experience fun. On the first tour, the weather was hot and sunny. On the Outports tour, the weather had changed getting cold, overcast and rainy (typical for the area), but Mike's cheery disposition compensated. Plus, the landscape is beautiful and a must see for anyone going. Thank goodness for them because I don't drive and I heard from other tourists, that it is hard to find a rental car.

OMG! We arrived in St. John's on a cruise ship and had one of the best experiences of our 28 day cruise. We were blessed by having Ellis as our driver/guide. He was amazing! His knowledge of this beautiful city was terrific and his sense of humour matched his knowledge. He went out of his way to show us all a very memorable day in a city he is obviously passionate about. We would have loved to have spent more time with him. McCarthy's Party was highly recommended to us by fellow cruisers and they were spot on. Be sure to book with this company. When we return we will certainly use them again.

Did the 3 hour tour of St.John's and Cape Spear - wow! The scenery was incredible. We had a comfortable ride and the driver (Ellis) was knowledgeable about the city and entertained us with stories along the drive. We were rushed to get back to the ship because of very heavy traffic along the waterfront, but we made it with 5 minutes to spare.

We had a great 3 hour tour that covered,as our guide Steve Gosse said, “ All the main things that tourists want to see in and around St. John’s”. There was light rain and some fog all morning but that didn’t dampen Steve’s energy and enthusiasm or, because of his good humour, our enjoyment. The foghorn was sounding when we were at Cape Spear which made our visit even more special.

What size is the group for your 12-day tour?
McCarthysParty
St. John's, Canada2 contributions
Years ago our Mother set the standard of 36 people in a 57 passenger coach. The coach provides a great ride and lots of leg room - especially with so many open seats. The number is ideal for social engagement as you will get to meet all the crowd. Its a great party size that still allows us to use more intimate dining locations, smaller washroom breaks and quick loading and debarking times
Thanks for your interest

Are half day tours on large buses, or are they small group tours.
McCarthysParty
St. John's, Canada2 contributions
Hi 268pasha,
They are small group tours. Our largest vehicle is a 23 passenger mini-coach and we have multiple 15 passenger vans. We never fill the vehicles to capacity, preferring to leave some empty seats so the guests will have plenty of room and enjoy all the benefits of a smaller group. Our half day tours run every day, with a minimum of 4 people.

How close does the boat get to the puffins on the Bird Island tour? Do we get off the boat on the island? Can you get good photos? We will be there in late summer 2019.

Hi, Thanks for your email and a great question. The response above is quite accurate and the bird island tour inspired me to purchase another camera. I used to carry a camera all the time but abandoned it when the new smart phones offered such wonderful camera options. Its only in situations like this where you really need the long lens but its only for the purpose of true intimacy. We actually get within meters of the birds but for those really good close shots a camera with a 75-300 lens works really well. All the bird photos posted on our trip adviser site are taken with a camera rebel from the bird island boat tours. But if you're only taking pictures with your mind - we get more than close to the islands. Thanks again

We will be spending one day, from a cruise ship, in St. Johns. Would one of your tours be possible? Which would you recommend as this is our first time in St. Johns.

If our cruise ship cannot make it into St. John, will our prepaid fee be returned?

We will be aboard a cruise ship in late September 2018. Several years ago we did this same cruise & the ship could not get in due to weather. If we prepay for a tour of St. John & Cape Spear with McCarthy’s party, will we be credited or is this a hassle trying to retrieve?
McCarthysParty

Shouldn't be any problem at all. You will be refunded right away.

Hello, we are interested in seeing the following highlights:
The Spout (a wave driven geyser), icebergs, lighthouses, cliffs, sea stacks, Berryhead Arch, cliffs, whales, waterfalls. Would you be able give me a quote for 4 people?
Thanks,
Cathy

Hello and thanks for your inquiry. Though I have to admit, this is tough to address on a forum since we would have to design a custom itinerary to accommodate such a trip. Please call our office at 1888 660 6060

We are looking for a last minute trip for a family of 3. Wondering if the multi-day trips are kid-friendly with a 5 year old and can accommodations be made for this permutation in the lodgings used.

The best answer I can give is to call the company direct. I found them to be very forthcoming when answering my questions.
Are there tours of Icebergs or is it out of season

There are still icebergs to be seen around Newfoundland's coastal areas. I'm not sure if there are any near St Johns... you could contact the tour provider directly
