Daughter started there this week. In the months leading up to this we received personal calls from the staff ensuring that we were comfortable with things and sirting out any questions. University of Ottawa never did this for my son! Memorial has been welcoming, personal and friendly. Even the three lovely maintenance personal I met in the parking lot on residence move in day were very helpful, with many tips on a variety of things o see and do. The residence welcoming activities were very well run, although I understand the general school orientation has been a bit weak and poorly organized. Food is excellent, with a new unlimited mealplan, that means you dont have to del with a blessed card with. Dollar balance that needs topping up by November. Daughter says food is good too! ( this from a picky teenager is a good recommendation !)
St. john's is a lovely city, with of the most welcoming people you would ever want to meet. To those of you that say the buildings are run down...my daughters room is far better than mine was at McMaster 30 years ago, in a then fairly new building. I think you go to school for the education not the buildings anyway. Sorry but I would rather they put money into excellent academic staff and research programs so that the education is current and top notch. In foggy sea air exterior maintenance is an ongoing concern throughout the east cost. If you need an ivory tower full of stuffed shirts, please don't come here.

If you have a degree in mind go to it. If not expect to spend two or three years just floating around, unsure. Still, the professors are all great, the classes are small, and its probably the best tuition in the county. One word of advice though, for first year math avoid John Suvak like your life depends on it. It doesn't matter to him if your grandmother died, you were in an accident, you need extra help, anything. Expect to be ridiculed every class. I've been there three years and out of the dozens of professors I've had, he's been the only bad one.

Let's face it...tuitions are crazy. Memorial University however offers a solid education and a great price. Lots of clubs and societies to get involved with, an active student council and top notch professional schools. I completed 2 degrees at MUN and would be happy for my children to do the same.

Memorial University was one of several universities we toured for university visits for our son and I hate to say it but it did not impress. Mind you we're comparing this to schools like University of Chicago and Northwestern but also NIU which seems more on par. From a college visit standpoint, it was way too long (2 hours) just walking through the hallways of a couple of buildings, then another hour for the dorms and another hour to meet with a counselor. I feel like they should tailor their tours to their audiences, maybe ask what interests kids instead of pushing what they think kids want to see.

I completed my Nursing degree at MUN, currently working as a casual employee with Eastern Health. MUN nursing program certainly prepared me for the job, no regrets, and a much better price than anywhere else in Canada. I did my Nursing degree at the MUN Corner Brook campus which was nice because the class size was very small. I got to know everyone in my class and I also forged a close relationship with my professors. It was an amazing 4 years and I would certainly recommend it to others who were looking to do a Nursing degree.

If you have time to walk around the campus, I suggest you do. The buildings are beautiful.

I visited my daughter who was staying in The Hatcher Building of the Patton Residences at Memorial University Of Newfoundland. They bathrooms were very clean and the security to the residences were very secure. You needed your room key to even work the elevator to get to the rooms. A shared kitchen was kept clean and had a fridge, stove, microwave and kettle. She was able to put things in the fridge with her name on it and no one touched them. Bus service was easy to get to get around. A free breakfast was also provided every morning.

The university houses some 20000 students. We visited this campus for a graduation ceremony. Due to limited time we could not visit the botanical gardens. The campus was very impressive.

The son was starting there this fall so we checked out the Burton Pond residence. It had all the basic furniture and excellent storage for each room. He's going to have a great year at this terrific place.

We first visited in Seot 2009, our oldest was attending MUN. It's a winderful school and a nice campus, conveniently located for the students to get around. We now have 2 kids attending and they both love Memorial and st. John's. For the parents, you will love the tuition prices!
