- Lin0515New Castle, Delaware607 contributionsWe had a great stay here...even in the rainWe spent 2 nights here so we could have a full day exploring the island. Despite rain, we had a great time. We spent much of the day at the Roosevelt park, which was terrific--a highlight of our Downeast trip. We also drove to Head Harbour Light Station and to Mulholland Point Lighthouse. Had very good meals at The Porch and the Prince Cafe in the Roosevelt park. We treated ourselves to a waterfront cabin at Friars Bay, where we could watch the tides rolling in and out from our huge window despite the rain. It was interesting talking to local residents about life on the island when the rest of Canada is so hard to get to, especially life during the pandemic. If it hadn't rained so much, we would have walked some of the trails. Not for everyone (not geared to children), but if you're looking for a slow-paced getaway, consider Campobello Island.Visited June 2023Written June 28, 2023
- AlcesterMartynAlcester, United Kingdom496 contributionsFor lighthouse lovers & American history buffs! We travelled the Maine coast from Kittery to Lubec and could not miss crossing into Canada - not least to see the Roosevelt Summer Cottage. The other not to miss attraction is the Head Harbour Lightstation. We arrived at Head Harbour on June 22nd - not quite in season, so were not able to climb the lighthouse tower or visit the keeper's house, but just scrambling across the rocks & up and down the corroding ladders was an adventure. Only do this if the tide has just gone out and you are physically fit. You have about two hours every twelve when this is a safe option. The Campobello Roosevelt International Park is an education in all things Eleanor Roosevelt, a little about FDR himself and on international co-operation between Canada and the USA. So if the history is interesting to you, this joint US/Canada attraction is well worth it and you can spend a good 4 hours visiting. The Prince Cafe is also a good option for lunch.Visited June 2022Written June 23, 2022
- Heidi DScarborough, Maine327 contributionsFun day trip with something for everyoneWE spent the entire day on Campobello. There is a very helpful welcome center as you drive off the causeway on to the island. They had maps and made suggestions on our likes. We visited the lighthouse, the Roosevelt Camp and some other houses, took a lovely hike on the western side of the island and a great hike to the lighthouse. You can easily spend a few days poking around and have a fun time. There were some nice restaurants in the isldand as well.Visited June 2022Traveled as a coupleWritten May 16, 2023

- Susan H4 contributionsGREAT road biking!I don't know why there are not more cyclists on Campobello! The roads are very good and there is very little traffic. However, it is HILLY. You need to be a strong rider or have an ebike. I used an ebike (all the fun and none of the misery) and my husband rode his road bike. There are wonderful views, beaches, lighthouses --everything you could want. There are also gravel roads and bike paths in the FDR park if you have fatter tires. We had a fantastic time. We also took the ferry to nearby Deer Island and rode there, which was even hillier. We ate most meals at The Porch on Campobello. The food was good and the staff very friendly. Maybe I should not be giving away the secret of this great location.Visited August 2022Written August 30, 2022

- Lynne WOahu, Hawaii20 contributionsThe Bay, The History, The Ferry, The Bridge & NatueTook the ferry from St. George to Deer Island and then over to Campobello. What a wonderful way to arrive. Don't miss that experience. I stayed at the LOVELY old Owen House B&B and would definitely stay there again and try to stay longer to enjoy it more. Driving around the island is so much fun as you are tempted to stop a zillion times and take pictures of the effects of the Bay of Fundy tides, the homes, the spectacular views, the rocks and the lighthouses. Time the tides right and hike out to Quoddy Head lighthouse aka Campobello Lighthouse. Quite the experience going up and down the metal twisted by water stairs and navigating around the seaweed draped rocks. Take the tour of the lighthouse and watch for whales. The Roosevelt International Park is a must see and do. Tour the house, hike the trails and see the beauty of the island up close and personal. I wish I had the time for the Tea with Eleanor as I have admired her for so long. I HIGHLY recommend the island and all it has to offer to travellers of any type.Visited July 2013Traveled soloWritten August 9, 2013
- deenavBangor, Maine144 contributionsBeautiful and historicalWe went as a family over the summer and was not disappointed. The entrance to Canada from the bridge was quick and easy. Once in Canada, we stopped at a little information building and the lady gentleman there told us all about the island and gave us some pointers on places to see with the kids. We went to the Roosevelt cottage first and ended up spending about 3 hrs there. The staff was so friendly and knowledgeable and encouraged our kids to ask as many questions they wanted. We were even able to take photographs of the interior of the house (can't do that in the US). Then we walked the short distance to the other summer home and took a quick tour as well. There was a tea going on in the main room but we were able to walk about the area on our own. The views were breathtaking! We went down to what is left of the docking area where President Roosevelt would arrive by boat and my husband and kids took to skipping rocks across the water while I sat and enjoyed the peace and quiet. We learned a lot about life during the Roosevelt years and enjoyed the family time. Will definitely go again!Visited June 2013Traveled with familyWritten November 2, 2013
- sbrmoon66 contributionsWorthwhile visit from Lubec MaineWhat a charming way to spend a day from a home base in Lubec Maine. I was in Lubec for SummerKeys Music Camp and by myself. Getting there is just a quick drive over the bridge. I really didn’t have anything specific I wanted to see because I didn’t know anything about it. I think it was more fun that way because everything was an aha! moment, including the FDR summer home, the tea with Eleanor Roosevelt presentation, the lighthouse and the site seeing! All within a few hours. It was such a worthwhile adventure. And I didn’t even get to the beaches which I hear are gorgeous.Visited June 2019Written August 6, 2019

We had a great two day stay here on the island. It's fairly small, but packed with things to see. Nice B&B's and a great (really great) seafood restaurant smack in the middle called Family Fisheries. The island isn't crowded, so driving around is a joy. There are a few good tours that are musts do's. The overall tour of the island, and the whale watching cruise. We had hump back whales surface within twenty feet of our boat multiple times. It was just a real nice relaxing few days, and we plan on coming back again.

Small Island with many wonderful vistas to see..
Lots of attractions with a lot of history..
One could spend a couple of days here..
The one problem we did have..was getting there..
We had taken the ferry from St. George to Deer Island...and then going to take a ferry from there to Campobello Island...
Unfortunately..we did not find out this ferry was not running until we arrived on Deer Island...
So good thing I had brought our Passports..we had to go through Maine & over a bridge and back to NB. & then to Campobello Island..

We heard about "Tea with Eleanor" on Maine Public Radio so we signed up as soon as we got to the park. The program is free and held twice daily each time for 20 people. Not only were we served delicious tea and home made cookies, but we were thoroughly entertained by two ladies who regaled us with stories about Eleanor Roosevelt. Many related to her life on and off Campobello Island, and perhaps the most moving stories were those they'd gathered from other participants in the Tea, telling how Eleanor Roosevelt had impacted their families' lives.
The Park itself is wonderful, lovely hikes and interesting to see the cottage where the Roosevelt family lived.

Where can I park my 36-ft motorhome while I am visiting this attraction?

If you are looking for the Roosevelt attraction there is a lot of parking at the park. A motor home will be fine for parking.

Hi. We were going to include a day trip from Bar Harbor up to Campobello Island but are now thinking of adding an overnight somewhere in the area. Should we spend 2nd day there or travel to another destination you would recommend. We have bikes so we would be game for a bike ride on island and are willing to take a ferry to leave the island for final overnight stay & destination of our trip before returning to Southern NH.
