For a turn of the century home this was probably a castle to those who saw it. I would love to live in it. The craftsmanship of the home is superb. It's furnished with pieces to match the date it was occupied by the prime ministers son. Absolutely stunning. Don't go if you don't have time to take it all... More

My cousin and I thoroughly enjoyed our tour of Dalnavert. We were provided our own guide who shared a wealth of information about the building, family who lived there and the restoration of the house. The house is beautiful and complete with all the furnishings of the period. A must see in Winnipeg.

Had a wonderful afternoon in Dalnavert. Beautifully restored treasure in Winnipeg. Our tour guide was extremely interesting and knowledgeable. You will luck out if you get Susan as your guide.

The house was renovated over the last 18 months and reopened in April. The house once belonged to the only surviving son of Sir John A Macdonald, Canada's first Prime Minister. He lived in the shadow of his father, and much of the house is directed at impressing other people, and that comes across in the gaudiness of the house.... More

True to the period colours and patterns throughout. Nice to see the clear delineation between the family and the staff. You get the impression of how the rich lived during the time of a booming city economy.

This is an excellent example of a Victorian style home. It has recently been refurbished, and now houses a houseful of interesting period pieces, furniture, art, and a few pieces original to the house. Of the Victorian houses that I have toured, this one is the most high tech. Includes a radiator heating system, running water, indoor purpose-built bathrooms and... More

This Mr. McDonald was a relative to the Prime Minister McDonald. The house is like a grand lady; You can wander through each room at leisure, everything is delighful. In the bathroom is the first toilet I've ever seen where the water tank is up on the wall! The beautiful wallpapers, antique furniture, lovely wood in staircases etc. are all... More

I really love that this is downtown tucked away. There is low vistor traffic meaning you can usually get a 1 on 1 private tour of the house. We had our weddings photos done here and they were very accomodating. The staff really know their history very well and are wonderful with kids asking questions
