Great place to take photos and chill. There were many tourists (like us) taking turns to take photos with the Olympic rings. The torch was rather neglected but it also offers a great photo opportunity. There are many shops and cafes around the plaza. And...More

After seeing countless Olympic Rings on TV, this was really great! Fun to see them for myself & get that photo. They're smaller than I'd expected, but an exciting moment, all the same.

Right at Whistler Village and easy walk to this site. Free concerts were offered Fridays and Saturdays at an outdoor pavilion next to here.

Olympic Plaza is a fantastic place to grab a beverage of choice from the plethora of surrounding establishments, kick back on the lounge chairs, to relax and enjoy the surrounding entertainment and happenings of the village! Prime spot for people watching, and the views aren't...More

Olympic Plaza is on the north side of the village stroll and is a great photo-op for the rings, the Paralympic swooshes, and the Olympic torch. There is a nice display all around describing the games and the different sports. If you were watching the...More

At the time of our visit we were lucky enough to experience snow conditions in the village, with -5 temps at night. Not sure how many times this happens in October and luckily we were suitably dressed, but it really did give you a feeling...More

Some of the plaza has been converted into a play area for the kids, with some fun buildings to explore and climb about in. There are adorondack chairs scattered around and areas where fires are lit depending on the weather, and one assumes for events....More

We visited Whistler this past weekend and enjoyed a stroll in the sunshine through the village and down to the Olympic Plaza. The Whistler 50 & Relay & Ultra Marathon was on, centred in the Plaza. During the summer, there are often free concerts in...More

The Olympic Plaza is included in the village walk. You will eventually end up there. Great photo ops. Lots of people taking turns having their pic with the rings. Play area for kids, pet friendly, restaurants and shops galore.

Whistler is much larger than we expected, and the central plaza is more like a retail shopping destination that a proper town. All the usual winter clothing / activity brands, plus hotels, restaurants & bars. However, once you get out of the plaza and see...More

Ironman Accommodations on a budget (10 Replies)
Hey Ironman Canada Athletes, spectators and locals! I'm planning on competing in Ironman Canada 2016 and I'm wondering if anyone could provide advice on accommodations on a tight budget. I won't give a price expectation until I know what is reasonable for that time of year. I'm looking for the following: -reasonably close to Whistler Olympic Plaza (5-8min drive) -has a kitchenette -has its own bathroom (aka not a shared hostel) -doesn't have bed bugs (aka not a complete shady dump...More

There are no shady dumps in Whistler-and you are far too early to do an effective search.
