This is my second review of Ziptrek Ecotours, focusing specifically on the Eagle Tour. Last year (2020), my hubby and I did the Sasquatch Tour and it was so exhilarating (I have a separate review of that experience), I wanted to do the Eagle Tour before we ended our vacation in Whistler. However, we didn't have the time though I vowed we would be back the following year (2021) for the Eagle Tour and return we did.
Unlike the Sasquatch Tour, we had guides accompany us from the check-in location (Excalibur Gondola) to the end. Our guides were Kear (from the United Kingdom) and Maggie (from London, Ontario). They were super friendly and had lots of information and stories to tell us. Altogether, we did five ziplines, the first zipline being two lines so couples can choose to zipline as a pair. We hiked alternatively on the forest floor and between treetops as we made our way from one zipline to the next. One thing I should mention and something that our guides were honest about, is that a much lighter person would sometimes not have enough momentum for their trolley to reach and catch the braking system at the end of the first zipline and would just stop before they could be pulled in. However, we were assured that someone would assist immediately if that were to happen. As it turned out, one of the members of our group did have this experience (she and her friend actually suspected she would have the honour of getting stuck on the zipline). We watched in amazement as one of the Ziptrek guides stationed on the platform got on the zipline and made his way to our stranded members and hooked up her trolley so she could be reeled in. Other than this minor hiccup (it didn't happen with the remaining four ziplines), it was an amazing experience zipping on five lines and seeing mountains, flowing rivers, green valleys and huge trees. I also tried zipping upside down but only managed to do it halfway (next time!).
This tour, however, is not just about ziplining. During the hikes from one zipline to the next, we were given lessons on ecology, the fragility of the environment, and the importance of environmental sustainability. We had fun but we also left with one important lesson: "take no more than you need".
The Eagle Tour is not cheap and costs a little more than the Sasquatch Tour. Per adult person, it's CDN $166.95 (with tax). Was the Eagle Tour worth the price? You betcha!
