On Wednesday February 9th I completed a wish on my bucket list: Heli skiing in Whistler. It was awesome despite not optimal weather and snow conditions. This was mainly due to the skills and communication of my guide Lee Anne Patterson and of course the rest of the team. Under these difficult circumstances Lee Anne achieved within no time that everyone felt safe on the slopes. I had a wonderful time. It is my pleasure to express my thanks to Lee Anne. But also to Mike and Frank, the pilot. I highly recommend Wistler Heli Skiing. Cheers Frans Plötz Amsterdam, The Netherlands

My first impression with WhistlerHeliSkiing began very positively with email correspondences with Kristen in the office. She responded to my barrage of questions (there were dozens!) with detailed explanations on everything over 10 or so emails before I even signed up! I booked a 4 run package along with a photographer. You have the option to take their shuttle to the heliport from the driving range or drive straight to the heliport. I chose the latter. My guide and photographer greeted me immediately upon arrival and already made me feel like a VIP. I had Paige as my guide and she started with both avalanche and helicopter safety briefings with the groups going that day. She was very patient in answering all my questions and explaining everything from becoming a heli ski guide to finding the best snow. Daryl was my photographer and shot footage that made me feel like the star of a ski movie! His video takes naturally incorporated my skiing into the beautiful vistas. I have posted some of his pictures on this review. I have been pondering Heli Skiing for many many years after decades of resort skiing. This is quite fully booked all the time during regular season. I was told that you have to book weeks in advance. That has always been a concern for me because I dont know if it would be good weather in such an advanced timeframe. I decided to finally take the plunge during this unique "opportunity" of the pandemic when it is possible to hand pick a day to go only a few days before. The irony is even with such a "precise" selection of a day, it still could go bad. Yes, weather is very fickle. There was a lot of fog and cloud the morning of my fly day and I thought we would not be able to go. But I was very fortunate when it all cleared up shortly into the morning. Everything you had heard about heli skiing is true. You only ski on untracked snow all day! The only caveat is that you have to be quite competent on steeper blue runs to find this experience enjoyable. Otherwise it can be a struggle on more challenging conditions, especially sun-crusted areas. Shortly after lifting off and enjoying the majestic snow covered mountain views, I thought just the sight seeing alone is worth the price of the ticket! You have to share the Helicopter with two other groups so there was some waiting for the helicopter to ferry the others, but usually no more than 10 min. The other two groups were 4 very high level skiers and 2 intermediates, so it wasn’t too bad. I completed my 4 runs before lunch and did 3 extra runs after to a total of 7 by 3:30pm. So it was quite quick. Based on some of the other reviews I read regarding long waits for the helicopter, I can definitely see that happening on fully booked days with 3 groups of mostly intermediates. Some of the runs were shorter than I thought since they told me runs are an average of 45 min each. We were fast paced and some runs took around 10 min! If you include getting in and out of the helicopter, then it becomes a minimum of 25 min. So I suppose a slower group can take about 45 min. If you are reading this review, you must also be pondering taking the trip. I can tell you not to hesitate and take the plunge! You won’t be disappointed!

We did a one day trip with this outfit. Stellar service and first class at every point throughout the experience. Select your group wisely. Accurately judge your skiing ability and put yourself in the correct group. Thank you for creating incredible memories for my Dad and I. We will be back every year. Thank you Vail Resorts preserving this unique Whistler experience.

If you're a skier or boarder, this is a must do at some point in your life and hopefully multiple times. - Experience: I skied in April and despite fairly warm temps were able to find some nice powder turns. Super fun day, skied four runs in the morning and four in the afternoon (six run package and added two extra). Half of the experience is being in the helicopter and the views are amazing. Apres after was fun to relive the day afterwards with a beer. Lunch is a really cool experience, food was good and was awesome sitting outside taking in the views. - Safety: Before heading out, did a full in depth review of ski safety including avalanche prep and reviewed safety of the helicopter. - Heli: Flew on the Bell 407 which is an awesome experience. I have flown on the 212 before which is good too. - Guide: Had Paige who was great with the group, super knowledgeable and a long time employee. Overall a really amazing experience and something that every skier should do at some point.

There has not been much snow on lower elevations, so decided to make an early season heli-ski with Whistler Heli-Skiing. By way of background, I am in my early 70’s, and this was just my fourth time out this season. I have quite a bit of backcountry experience and have heli-skied in a number of different locations. Was a bit concerned when I found I had at least 35 years over the next older rider, but it was a pretty strong group and everyone did fine. Nice runs, excellent snow, bluebird day, and a great group. Thanks to our guide Rob, and excellent pilot. Very professional and competent operation. And their photographer/videographer is awesome. Give it a try if there is low snow, or big crowds at the main resort!
