My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed our whale watching experience with Five Star Whale Watching! The young man was so helpful while I was booking with them over the phone! The crew on the boat were so very knowledgeable about the all wildlife that we came across. The crew are very passionate about the whales and all the wildlife! They even shared information and taught all of us the whales eating habits and hunting strategies, as well as the difference in fins, male and female! And to top it all off we saw so many orcas that day and witnessed the whales during their feeding frenzy! I recommend this company from start to finish as being very helpful, professional, passionate about the wildlife, and educational! Thank you Five Star for a fantastic experience!

The crew was so knowledgeable and friendly - we saw so much wildlife and learned details about the animals from the naturalists on board. We were able to see a pod of 4-5 Orcas, harbor porpoises, seals, and different types of birds. Thanks for a great experience.

Over 3 hours on the water to see 1 humpback whale fin from 500 yards. Maybe I need to manage my expectations better, but I was hoping to see more than just a whale fin from over 500 yards. I could not hear a word the resident “expert” said, she was pleasant, but no real substance & little knowledge, or so it seemed, but a pleasant young lady. This was not a whale watching trip, this is a boat trip plain & simple, but again, we must be fair, you cannot “click your fingers” & magically call up the animals, I understand that, but this was a disappointing trip. Whale was close to the USA coast, over an hour from Victoria, so not an enjoyable trip. I expected more, but maybe I expected too much. Sorry folks, you did your best, but not a great day. The boat had problems initially, so sat on the boat in the marina for over 20 minutes at the start. This after my initial trip was cancelled the day before, the boat I was originally scheduled to go on, needed maintenance. Communication was good, but a really disappointing trip.

We are sorry that you feel this way regarding the tour, the sightings and your experience, however we do disagree and do not understand the poor review in its entirety. We do welcome respectful feedback, however we do feel some of your points do not come across as such. Our boat crew explained that you did encounter a humpback whale at 100 metres, which is a legal and respectful requirement for viewing this species of whale. This species is the largest we typically encounter in the Salish Sea, and is between 30-40 tonnes. Most of our guests feel humbled and grateful to see such an amazing animal, we are sorry you did not feel the same. You also encountered Bigg's orcas at between 300-400 metres this evening, which is a completely different species than the humpback whale, and equally as interesting as they are the ocean's top predator. We adhere to and take pride in following respectful whale-viewing guidelines as Victoria's 1st WCA Certified Respectful Whale-Watching Operator. We would never want to approach an animal too close or at a point that would no longer be considered respectful, and we are always happy to explain the importance of viewing distances to our guests. Our guides are extremely passionate, knowledgeable and well-versed in their subject matter. We do take your point towards our crew member as a hurtful statement, as all of our crew are extremely well-rounded and intelligent people. All of our guides bring forward a diverse set of backgrounds and knowledge including academic and practical marine biology experience, guiding experience in various environments and other unique experiences. We try to provide enough information for all guests without taking away from the experience of the live marine wildlife we encounter. In saying this, our guides are always happy to explain further details or information if a guest is more interested in a certain subject. We do apologize for the inconvenience towards the initial trip cancelation and the wait for your rebooked trip. The 20 minute engine delay was not a safety concern, but did arise unexpectedly so we appreciate your and everybody's understanding towards this. Thank you for your positive reflection into our communication, we do try to ensure our guests are caught up, informed, and aware of all details of their trip. We hope with the above points you may reconsider your perspective on our crew and the trip as a whole. With wild animals, we can never predict what their behaviours will be, and how many whales we see, this is the nature of wildlife in the dynamic Salish Sea.

We booked this whale watching excursion outside of the Royal Caribbean package, because it was less expensive. I was concerned it would be tough to get off the ship and get downtown Victoria to meet at the requested time. It was actually very EASY! They had buses outside the ship going every 15 minutes and it was a roundtrip paid price. The staff was very pleasant the greeted us and they directed us down to the ship. The captain and nature experts were extremely knowledgeable and very engaging with everyone. We were very fortunate to see humpback whales and killer whales. This was the highlight excursion of our cruise. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND 5 Star Whale Watching!!!!!!!!!
