Open dawn to dusk year round this is a great place to go for a walk with your dog, read a book or chat with friends. There are beautiful gardens almost year round and you can never beat the view of the Olympic mountains and Fairfield below.

Free of charge, beautifully kept grounds, gardens, and pathways. Good parking options. A great way to spend an hour on a sunny afternoon.

The gardens are lovely from spring to fall, and the Gov House is a beautiful historic building; perfect for big occasions or a quick visit.

We were walking back toward the inner harbor after a visit to Craigdarroch Castle when we stumbled upon this gem. Though I can't speak for the house, the gardens are divine. Wandering around the grounds, I couldn't help but feel as thought I was in a fairy tale. Everything is exceptionally well-kept, and it's free to visit! What are you... More

Don't miss wandering around these grounds for a long while, enjoying the gardens, benches, bluffs, views, flowers, trails. Meditate on a bench for awhile, talk to one of the 200 volunteer gardeners keeping the place beautiful, don't miss the amazing old gnarly Sequoia tree over on the westside of the property. We discovered this place by just wandering through the... More

We stopped here hearing the gardens were nice. Surely they were. The property quite big with rose gardens, Japanese gardens and paths with other types of flowers, trees and bushes. The view from the back of the house is lovely, as it is on a hill and you can see the ocean. You could probably walk there from downtown in... More

Free! Walked the gardens, saw the Olympic Mtns. in the distance, glaciatic rocks, fresh air. All for the cost of a cheap taxi ride from the Fairmont. An alternative to a trip to Butchart Gardns.

I am always amazed at how few people come here considering it's free and the views of the Olympic mountains are absolutely stunning. There are so many beautiful flower beds and native Garry Oak habitat down below. I recommend this spot to tourists and locals alike - it really is a special spot and only a twenty minute walk from... We were there early, so missed the blossoming flora, which must be delightful in all the gardens on the grounds. Be sure to walk around the back for a spectacular vista overlooking the Sound and points west. We didn't go inside so we're not sure what we missed.

If you come to Victoria do take a trip to Government House. It's palatial, historic and the gardens are picture perfect. They serve High tea, all Volunteers, 'hidden secret'. Great tea house on the grounds of Government house. Prices are so good, a must to visit.
