- Micha SEverett, Washington8 contributions10/10 - Yes, you should undoubtedly go!Highly highly recommend this place! We went as a family of four with two young kids and had such an amazing time. It’s great for all ages. My kids were entertained as many booths were interactive with buttons to press, and my husband and I were just in awe of how spectacular the displays are. It was educational and you see history unfold as you walk past the booths and see what life looked like in different eras. Then there’s the fantasy / fairy tale sections that were just amazing and worth geeking out on. Many places you go once and call it good with no plans of returning to make time for other touristy spots to visit next time to come back - this wasn’t one of those for us. We fully plan on coming back and taking friends and family with us when we return to Victoria. We can’t wait! This place is a big YES to visit!Visited April 2024Traveled with familyWritten April 3, 2024

They had one of London and so much detail went into these displays. I took so many photos. Well worth a visit if in Victoria Canada.Visited May 2024Traveled soloWritten May 7, 2024
- Diane BRichardson, Texas76 contributionsDon’t miss Miniature World!!!Cannot believe how cool this place is. Everyone who was visiting while I was there was having as much of a blast as I was. Crazy attention to detail and love went into all of these dioramas. Don’t miss this one if you’re in the area.Visited May 2024Traveled soloWritten May 27, 2024
- Louise Masin SattlerLos Angeles, California1,547 contributionsPerfect for kids and adults who are kids at heart!I absolutely loved this museum. While not very high tech- it still was worth visiting. The first exhibit was slightly “lame” but then it much improved. I adored the circus miniatures. The castles of Europe exhibit was splendid. So much detail with each and every exhibit.Visited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten July 1, 2024
- Kathy Silvie1 contributionMUCH MORE THAN I EXPECTED!Speaking as an amateur miniaturist - where do I begin? The dioramas are larger than I ever imagined. The attention to the smallest detail is incredible. The topic of the many displays varies from the historic - to cinema productions - to imaginative fantasies. Several are interactive - you can operate H.O. scale trains, vehicles, identify famous castles. City, country, battle scenes are populated with many hundreds of tiny people, each one in detailed period clothing caught in the act of daily life. An absolute MUST SEE. For full effect, allow yourself a couple of hours. I could have spent the entire day there!Visited July 2024Traveled with familyWritten July 24, 2024
- Erin S1 contribution"Must see" on brief cruise visitWe had a very short time in Victoria during our cruise stop, and this was a "must see" that we wanted to visit. Big thank you to the staff for allowing us entrance at the last minute! It was a great place to see; everyone in our group loved it, and we'd recommend it to all ages! The detail of the displays were amazing! Something for everyone of all ages! So glad we got to see this in our brief visit!Visited July 2024Traveled with familyWritten September 2, 2024

If you are visiting the city with kids then you should consider visiting this museum. Some of the displays have buttons to push that make miniatures move and make it more interesting for kids. Takes only an hour and half to see the entire exhibit and see different scenes from different eras.

I haven't been here is years! My wife and kids have never been. We ended our Xmas staycation here at Miniature World and it did not disappoint. It is my fav attraction in Victoria. They were very COVID-19 prepared. You must bring your own mask, Max 6 people in at a time and they supply you with sanitizer and gloves (even size small for the kids) because there are buttons all over the place to make airplane propellers spin, lights go off and on, trains and cars move, etc. My kids (aged 2.5 and 4.5) LOVED that part. The attention to detail is incredible. Luckily my kids missed some of the more gruesome scenes. Look closely and you can see some...not so kid friendly stuff, but really I think most kids would not notice. Ultimately it's still a great way to spend some family time.

It was a fun little museum. My kid had lot of fun pressing the buttons to see see miniature figurines move and learned about history at the same time. There was a bit of a line up as they only allowed so many people in and had to keep a distance between groups. We waited about half an hour which wasn't bad. Gloves were required and provided at the door.

Our kids and grandkids have visited this exhibit and we felt it was time that we did. The dedication and work that went into this exhibit is mind boggling! The detail and scale of all the models was outstanding. Lots of different themes from the future to the days of knights. War exhibits from
different centuries, fairy tales and even a working saw mill which was actually my favourite.
Lots of interactive displays and good narrative descriptions. What a joy it was spending time in this exhibit.

I was concerned with the $20 per person price tag that we might be disappointed, but this was incredible! My three year old loved all the interactive buttons she got to push to make trains move, drawbridges lower, etc. I could have spent all day inside! The detail and variety was amazing.

This place is overpriced, so expensive just to see some of manufacturers which are old, dusty and visible fake. There are others places like this where the manufacturers has high quality for sure. It’s an enjoyable visit only if you have children because they can have fun there exploring and visiting around. Not worth it. Not recommended at all.

I was utterly enchanted by miniature world and already regret not spending longer in there. The amount of detail on the models within is genuinely incredible as is the frozen in time 70s kitsch of the whole museum. Easily Victoria's best kept secret.

This is a place for model enthusiasts of all sorts to gawk and sigh with delight. The spectrum of displays is amazing. We had two railroad model enthusiasts take around 3 hours to peruse the collections and they liked all.

Although the 1st part, Space, looks a bit unreal, the remaining are pretty detailed and realistic. It features world war II, cross Canada rail (with dimming lights simulating day and night), castles, mansions, knights, fairies and a lot more, more than 1 hundred displays. They are of different scales, the larger scale has detailed facial expressions while the small scale has hundreds of figures. If you like to look at each display in details, you can spend more than half a day.

Our family really enjoyed our visit to Miniature World! My husband and I visited 12 years ago and we knew we had to take the kids to see. It was just as fun this time around. The exhibits are so detailed with a wide variety of themes to keep the attention of everyone. The admission staff was friendly and ticket prices standard. The building was clean and although old, it was well maintained.

Can I use a gift certificate for the Empress Hotel for admission?

Barbara J C,
Unfortunately, a gift certificate for the Empress Hotel would not be applicable for Miniature World. While we are located within the hotel, Miniature World is not affiliated in any way with the Empress or any Fairmont establishment.

The museum is interactive with some of the displays so I would say walking age but I believe all ages will enjoy the museum.

As there were no signs indicating no animals allowed, I suppose the animal, if leashed, could enter. But the building layout is a series of narrow hallways that patrons walk through with a few larger rooms with multiple displays. I would not expect a pet on a leash to feel safe or comfortable in such a situation.

How long do you recommend for a visit to Miniature World?

Victoria, Canada
Hi Les,
On average, our guests spend 45-60 minutes in our exhibit area. However, Miniature World is a self-guided tour and you are welcome to take all the time you need to see everything we have to offer. Thanks for your question.

Hi, is Miniature World wheel chair or mobility scooter accessible? I'm looking forward to visit this summer if it is. Thank you
Written February 10, 2016
Because the layout is a series of narrow hallways with people stopping to see the displays, I would say a scooter could not manage it.
