Judging by the constant stream of international tourists, stepping off tour buses, Terry Fox is a revered individual. The statue itself is modest, like the man himself. It sits on a pedestal in a triangular patch of lawn bordered by residential streets and Beacon Hill Park. Ideally, by closing the northeast street, the space could merge with the bigger park, parking could be added, trees, benches, an interpretive centre even. It is a spot waiting for a vision. Companion statues in St. John's (hard to find in an industrial harbour) and Thunder Bay (a blow by on a major highway) are not much better. Pity.

Situated just behind the Mile Zero marker where Terry began his epic run to raise awareness and funds for cancer charity.

Since Terry Fox’s heroic and monumental effort to raise money for cancer research began in 1980 with his “Marathon of Hope,” many a Canadian has learned much about the humble young man who unintentionally became a Canadian hero and icon thanks to his selfless efforts. I first learned about Terry in elementary school during the late 80s and early 90s via the annual Terry Fox run, which is done in his honour and continues his mission of raising funds and awareness for cancer research. Much later on, Terry’s story was beautifully told in Douglas Coupland’s book simply titled “Terry.” Here, photos, letters and other images courtesy of the Fox family are given precedence over the written word and thus have greater biographical force. Terry as an ordinary person accomplishing exceptional things underlies the narrative told. And such is an apt way of seeing and reading Terry the person because it provides increased meaning to the monuments to and of Terry in St. John’s, Thunderbay, Vancouver and Victoria.

The Terry Fox statue at Victoria, located in picturesque Beacon Hill Park, is a fitting tribute to a man who, by all accounts, was just like you and me. The statue, like the man himself, is straightforward and non-grandiose. It is, in a word, understated.

Importantly, the site at Victoria marks what would've been the conclusion, or “Mile Zero,” of the “Marathon of Hope” and captures Terry as if he were running towards the finish line. Unfortunately, cancer got the better of him and he did not physically finish his marathon; however, Terry's perseverance and dedication is something we can and should all look up to: "Dreams are made possible if you try."

The story about Terry Fox is very interesting. At a young age, he got cancer and had to have his right leg amputated. To help with cancer awareness, he stated a marathon across Canada. Before he was able to finish, he died of lung cancer. They have a race every year in hid memory.

Not far from the end of the Trans-Canada Highway (maybe ten yards) stands this small statue of a young man who ran farther on one leg than many people do on two. Take a moment to drop by, read the plaque, and consider your own capabilities. Very moving.

Unless you're really into Terry Fox, it's not worth a specific trip. There's a much nicer Fox statute in St. John's, Newfoundland & Labrador. It's on the outskirts of Beacon Hill Park toward the water.

His monument is very endearing to those who need Hope with their disabilities. His courage and determination for Marathon of Hope with his words of wisdom shown in his monument are very touching, So sad at young age of 22 ,he died. But his legacy remains forever to everyone's heart.

This is where Terry Fox is commemorated. A statue in his honour marks the spot. Terry was an energetic young athlete whose right leg had to be amputated because of cancer. But instead of detering this brave man of 18yrs, he set off to run across Canada! The statue is situated in Beacon Hill Park and is on the tour-route for groups of visitors to Victoria
