Went on the discovery island kayak tour during our honeymoon in Victoria. In summary: had an absolutely brilliant time. First of all, you (group of 8ish) and the kayaks are taken out on the shuttle to Discovery Island so you are a little more remote than in the harbour. You are then taken on a walking tour of the island where you learn about the history of the island, take in some incredible scenery and view the local wildlife (seals, cormorants, bald eagles….). You have the opportunity to take a swim in the bay, then you are off on the kayaks around one side of the island. Two guides come with you, one is in the lead kayak and the other is in the shuttle boat observing at a distance and making sure you are safe. The kayaking is relatively gentle and I feel appropriate for beginners. The water was crystal clear and we loved being able to look down and see the kelp forests, crabs and harbour seals swimming beneath you.
The guides were brilliant, made the experience fun and made you feel safe. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who is looking for an adventure in Victoria that 99% of the other tours do not provide!
