Burrard Bridge is another bridge spanning False Creek. It's wide and carries traffic as well as pedestrians and has cycle paths for cyclists. We had a good view from Granville Island.

This bridge is a good place if you like to take pictures of the city, you can see all the buildings and the boats too.

We used the Burrard Bridge to get back to downtown from Kitsilano Bridge while cycling the Seaside Greenway.
It wasn't too hard to get on to from that direction. We appreciated being separated from the motor vehicles as we crossed over. It is a good layout with walkers, cyclists and vehicles having their own lanes/paths.

Burrard Bridge is on of the main feeder routes to Granville Island. It also seems to act as an umbrella to the market and stores below.

Beautiful leisurely walk across a classic Art Deco bridge. Great for cyclists also, as there individual bike lanes

One of the best views of English Bay is from the Burrard Bridge. However, recent alterations will obscure that view for those driving across it. Cyclists will be able to see better as there are bike lanes on both sides of the bridge. The best view would be on foot. This is all due to the installation of barriers and fences that have been quite the local controversy in recent months.
The bridge itself is a magnificent example of art deco design. It was a time when designers didn't just build things for utility, they built them beautiful as well.
The engineering of the balustrade will be hidden or obscured in the near future, but it was designed so that the little columns seem to disappear when viewed at 50 km/h.
On foot, allow 20 minutes to cross in either direction. Bus stops are conveniently located near Pacific at the north end, and Cornwall in the south. Access on foot or on the #22 bus, or about 5 minutes walk from Granville St.

What you see is, well, what you get from the experience. There are actually 2 distinctly different perspectives. Up above, crossing the bridge with the mass of humanity (presumably trying to get to work) a closer look shares an historical perspective. We did not travel by car above as our perspective was more water-level oriented (via False Creek ferries).
But did you know this 1932 era bridge (it has been updated so breathe easier as you transverse it) gives its "propers" (i.e. recognition due) to the brave BC soldiers who served the country and the world during WW II.
If you cross the bridge (street level) then you will see the lighted braziers to remind us all of the heat and light the soldiers would have had as their mainstays at that time. Burn those braziers forever and never let us forget the sacrifice of your kin.
However, from the underside of the bridge (think False Creek here), we see a different view of this 75+ year old beauty with many stories to share. Just as a reminder, the bridge has had attention paid to its infrastructure. Let it rest there. Believe it is whole and will endure. Don't think twice about it as you travel across the span.
Captain Vancouver and Sir Henry Burrard-Neale are the "heavies" for which this span is so named. These were British officers/soldiers (no surprise there, this is Canada after all) and, surprisingly, they both died at about age 40.
A discovery here and there amongst them, a recognition well deserved, and the end-game is Vancouver bears Captain Vancouver's name. And so be it. Winners get to write history.
Fast-forward to today: the bridge is a beauty when viewed from water level (courtesy of the ferry system) and the Art Deco design on display is pure delight. Brush all the politics aside, enjoy the vista from the underside of the bridge as it welcomes the great sea into the False Creek waterway.

Functional Bridge that takes you into downtown, not an architectural wonder but it is nice. Appears to have a walking path as well.

Make this part of your False Creek seawall expedition. Literally at the west end of False Creek, you will walk under this bridge when you walk west towards Sunset Beach and English Bay. A great opportunity to inspect the underside and look at the construction and design - the way things were done almost a century ago. If you can handle the steps, walk up to the deck level, and note some of the "gingerbread" fashionable back in those days.

Enjoyed a stroll over the Burrard Bridge on way to the Vancouver Maritime Museum.
Nicely set up for walkers with separate path to bikes. Stop at top for photos and enjoy the views. Lovely art deco bridge.
