Graduate show. A good example of recent graduate works by the university's artists and designers. A must see and it is free! The show is usually wo weeks in the beginning of May.

Emily Carr Institute was a total waste of time for me. I felt like I didn't really had any chance to fully express and develop my creativity. My creativity had been much limited and institutionalized. ECI was really bureaucratic, you had to be conceptual, any signs of fonding over neo-classicism u r outta the window, the tunneled visioned & lack of experienced faculties will look at u with detest. I struggled my way thru graudation. Shortly after I grauate, I applied a master degree prog in new york, at NYU Tisch. The experience at NYU was mind blowing~All of the faculties at NYU teach AND also working within the industry (e.g: current movie producers NOT retired). They know what's REAL out there, unlike Emily Carr Institute, a school filled with looser instructors who can't survive outside of the academic realm.

So much goes on at this university which seems to offer every discipline of art and design in every medium available. They also have a fantastic Artist in Residence program. I love walking through the buildings, talking and viewing what the students are creating and just taking in all the new ideas that I see to expand my creative juices. They also have a dedicated program for Aboriginal students (First Nation Tribal Members) that helps promote and advance their history and design. If you are there at the right time, be sure to view one of the graduate shows which I believe are the first couple of weeks in May.

We stopped here while on Granville Island. It was good for a short visit, though we aren't into art really.

Since the art gallery wasn't opened, we decided to participate in the Virtual Reality demonstrations. They were very interesting; i.e.example, how it feels to be in a self-driving car

I'm one of these lifetime learners who went back to art school in retirements. At ECU (now Emily Carr UNIVERSITY of Art and Design) I found the support to take risks, the challenge to achieve excellence and the encouragement to exceed my expectations.
